I said on the match thread that he looked like the guy your mate brings along to 5s when you are a man short. They tell you he was a player in his day but he's 3 stone overweight and can barely run, the ability might still be there but it's well hidden because of their physical shape.
He might be able to get back close to where he was but I think that looks unlikely, he's evidently not putting the work in at Dundee. He looks finished, a shame because he had all the talent in the world.

Less than a year since he scored in the Scottish Cup Final. He was a Scotland international as recently as last November also. Sad to see his career tail off like this.

Something not quite right at Dundee. Griffiths looking more like Peter Griffin, Adam wrapping his car round a tree at 4am, look all over the place on the park. Doesn't appear to be much leadership there from the outside looking in. Two senior high calibre players too not daft we laddies.

Too many players that are mates with the manager. I still cannot get over the clamour on here to try and sign LG.

Very sad, he's only 31 as well. He could easily have had another 4 years in him at this level.
His contract with Celtic ends in the summer and I would expect him to go to an English League Two side or similar for the next 18 months before retiring.

I can’t see many league two sides even fancying him to be honest. More likely SPL relegation contenders or top end of the championship. Either that or a failed trip abroad.

IMO McPake playing the old boys network in bringing Griffiths to Dundee will contribute sooner or later to McPake getting sacked.

According to big Yogi Hughes, Lee still has plenty to offer. Apparently he’s been struggling with injuries and hasn’t managed to get himself 100% fit.
If he does ever manage to sort himself out then I don’t think we’ve heard the last of him.
He may well be a loose cannon but the boy has magic in his boots.

The only person responsible for Leigh Griffiths downfall is Leigh Griffiths, he could have come to Hibs and been our talisman. Instead he chased money, stayed at Celtic and can't get a game for Dundee.
How many more footballers are going to allow this to happen to them?

That's the point though, he wont. He's not got the self discipline or work ethic to get fit. He's finished.
I didn't want him in the summer after his ...er....internet mistake, since then he's gone miles backwards and been in further trouble (kicking a firework into the St Johnstone fans). Oh and he's very rarely put the ball in the net.
Sad but not surprising.

He's a 31 year old man whos been playing the game for years. He shouldn't need a manager to whip him in to shape.
Roy Keane was on Gary Nevilles interview show recently talking about the recovery he went through after an injury lay-off. He realised it's a short career, so he stopped drinking alcohol, got mega-fit, reduced down to about 5% body fat (thats mental) and generally screwed the nut. Griffiths will never do anything like that.

It’s obvious, isn’t it? We are a club with a penchant for romance and second chances.
He was a fabulous player for us (and for Celtc for a while… to say he done nothing after being at Hibs is ridiculous).
Up until this summer I liked to entertain the notion that he would sign a contract at Hibs, screw the nut, and enjoy a brilliant late career.

He’s got 5 months left of the season, he looks well overweight, injuries don’t do that to you, having a god awful diet does. Xmas coming up is that going to change? By which point he’ll have 4 months not only to shed the weight but also get himself back into the team. Won’t happen. He’s not got the mentality for it.

Yes, he got good advice at a formative stage, but he’s the one who has put the work in and made the sacrifices necessary to be the fine specimen he is today.

Cummings is a no brainer for 3rd choice striker IMO. We really need an unpredictable player who can score some goals in the box. Doesn't need to play every week, but would be a great option with 10/15 to go if we need a goal, or even to stretch a back 4.

I dont think I said it wasn't down to Lewis, Collins made a huge impression on him when he came in and Lewis has been a model pro ever since, yes a massive credit goes to Lewis but it was Collins that opened his eyes to the standards and qualities needed to be the best he could be.

Everything you've written there is contrary to becoming a better team. Every player we sign (other than emergency circumstances like injury cover etc) should be better than we what we have if we want to push forward. Big teams don't buy back ups - they buy potential and boot it back out the door if it doesn't work out...

That is true, yeah, I agree. There is an argument, probably the right one, that players should be coming to take a spot. Big teams quite often do buy backup, especially goalkeepers and fullbacks.
That argument is probably the reason we have zero depth up front, though.

Could also be fair to say that he has lost what he had and appears to be putting crap into his body and we are told that’s not a good thing, the putting crap into one’s body thing. It’s been a long time since I seen Jason Cummings as being a player we would need at Hibs. There are many better prospects in leagues all over Britain even as back up.

Absolutely ridiculous waste of talent. He could have reached unbelievable heights if he had just knuckled down, worked hard and stayed away from the nonsense. Another Riordan & O'Connor story i'm afraid - bags of natural talent but wasted through getting involved in too much off field drama.
The guy has mental health issues which I 100% sympathize with but he has to take a lot of responsibility for stuff as well. If you'd said Griffiths to hibs a few years back id have said hell yes! But when it was rumoured this summer that we were going to go in for him (not sure how true that was) I was really hoping it didn't come to pass. Too much baggage and far too often making the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Really sad to see tbh because he would have been exactly what Scotland needed as well. He has his demons and i'm hoping he can overcome them, get himself sorted and salvage a good career but as others have already said on this thread, I fear that probably wont happen.

100%. Absolute model professional and someone I hope we keep around at the club for a long time as a great example to the young lads coming through. Works so hard, has always kept away from off field nonsense and is as modest and humble as they come.
You see so many young laddies breaking into the first team and suddenly start thinking they're billy big baws. Get carried away with the money, let the hype go to their heads etc but Lewis was never like that. The youngsters would do well to follow his example.
Lewis is an absolute credit to hibs.

7 SPL Championships, 3 Scottish Cups and 4 Scottish League Cups and European football, mostly Champions League for the best part of a decade to say nothing about being a multi millionaire.
The party is of course over and I would expect over the next 10 years much of the money will go though playing for a well run club like Celtic will guarantee a strong pension that's secure and hard to lose.
Its not exactly a wasted career at 31 though.

The tragedy is that he could have another 4-5 years at a decent level if he’d looked after himself better.
Not sure where he is financially but earning those contracts would hardly be a bad thing.
I worry that in 20 years time Leigh will be hanging around in leith telling tales for beer money.
