First of all, it’s a sad day when anyone loses their job. Although I didn’t like JR style of play, it’s still a bit surprising that he’s been sacked, given the board has put faith in him by handing out contracts to the players he fancies over the last couple of weeks. The new manager, whoever that may be, will have his own ideas & may not fancy some of these players who have just signed up.
Personally, I’d appoint someone until the end of the season to see how he can get this group playing well. Long term, I hope Ron, as he’s been doing since he came in, thinks positively & surprises us with a top coach/manager. If he’s realistic about us being challengers to The Old Firm, & I think he is, he now must see we need better quality players. A well respected top coach may buy into his ambitions & be someone respected by better quality players who might fancy the project.

One question. Did you not like the style of play at the start of this season before JR was hit by injuries to key players and left with a threadbare squad? That will be overlooked by many.

The style of play chat bores me a bit I must admit. How many managers have done this successfully? Mowbray, Collins and Stubbs? All had plenty critics.

Start of the season some of the football we were playing was brilliant.

Then injuries hit.

Then loss of form.

You can ask players to play a certain way but it’s upto then to do it.

There's no such thing as a long term manager, only a short term manager that keeps on winning...

Thing that struck me in alot of games was we created alot of chances but the clinicalness to finish hasn't been there, has to be a few changes to the squad to address this and other issues in the squad like having two defensive midfielders playing.

Sacking the manager because we are only 7th is surely demonstrating ambition, our previous owners would have been perfectly happy accepting 7th place.

No, not really. I think JDH is a good player. Good touch, shows for the ball, very busy, but most of his passes are sideways & backwards. Newel also very comfortable on the ball & confident in possession, but slows the game down to much, giving the opposition time to regroup when we should be attacking quickly with intent. Now I don’t know if the way both played was down to the managers instructions, we’ll find out when the new coach implements his style, but JR persevered with the same 12/13 players, unless there were injuries or suspensions, & was happy plodding on in games until we had to chase them. Usually sending creative players on to change the game that was almost done. All only my opinion off course.

The biggest issue for me ‘style’ wise is that I didn’t think there was any full stop. We were just stuck in the middle of everything and relied on individual moments. We didn’t really press but we didn’t really sit back either. We weren’t really overly defensive in the way we set up but we weren’t particularly attacking even when we set up in an attacking way.

I’ve never really understood how we were actually looking to play under Ross.

For us there really is no such thing as a long term manager. Either they lose and get sacked, or they win and they go on to a higher level.

I mean ambition with the quality of player & high profile coaching team. Everything he’s fine so far is forward thinking. Doesn’t seem like the type of businessman to accept mediocrity.
