Forget League Cup Finals
The league had to be priority this year.
Can’t believe the Board has no concept of a Top 3 finish
For the first time in a generations Scotland would have 3 teams in European league competition.
Third place this year would have potentially earned Hibs circa £7-8million via guaranteed European group football.
It would have raised the clubs profile in the UK and on the continent
The extra income would’ve have taken Hibernian FC to the next level, and perhaps dominated that position in years to come.
This is the real disaster.
All the good work under Lennon pi55ed up against the wall through chronic boardroom appointments and misguided loyalty
No leadership on or off the park.
Any opportunity all but gone barring a miracle.
RG not quite the businessman we were lead to believe

The real disaster was the summer transfer fiasco. However things have now spiralled downwards and JR looks to be floundering.

Hibs fans can't see beyond the ends of their own noses. Neil Lennon was fantastic at Hibs in many many ways. Look at the attendances and football we played under him. Pure passion, backbone, and fight!

Would take him back in a heart beat

What is the script with European places this year. Know the league winner is right in to the Champions League but not sure apart from that and can’t find anything.

That was all great until it stopped and we went on a run akin to what we’re on now, the manager stopped doing press conferences and eventually it fizzled out.

Just remembering last year that someone was going to be guaranteed European football for third or a cup win but it never materialised. Just wondering if it’s set in stone this year.

And he was awful in many others. Took us on a similar if not worse run to what we’re on right now. Bottled several big games (always forgotten for some reason), eventually fell out with everyone, stopped doing press conferences and got sacked. Would never have him back at our club.

It was great for 4 months then he blew 2nd place and left us struggling.

The same Neil Lennon they had a good 4 months for us in the top flight when somehow he signed Bain and ended up with Allan?

The same Lennon that got us 8th in the league and playing brutal football when he left?

Apart from all the Lennon (******) chat.

This finish third ***** has never been confirmed anywhere of making a group stage.

Even if it was confirmed, if a team that doesn't finish in the top two wins the Scottish they bump 3rd over everything anyway (see St Johnstone with us).

I genuinely hope we never see Lennon at ER ever again.

It’s been a while since Lenny got his slagging on here. I enjoyed watching Hibs under him more than the managers who have been here since.

I’m no for a minute looking for the return of Neil Lennon. Always think the bit about four good months is wrong though. I remember going to Ibrox and winning, going toe to to with Celtic at Parkhead and beating Hearts all before Christmas.

Third place is guaranteed Europa League playoff (possible group place)
Worst case scenario we lose that then it’s Conference League (same one as Tottenham Roma etc)

Scottish cup winner takes that place unless it’s won by one of the top two .
Hence why we got shafted into the conference league.

StJ didn't even get that in the end though as uefa hadn't confirmed it be the case and then went a different way than what had been presumed.

Is it definitely the case for this year now?

Would be hard to hide the disappointment of being relatively confident of achieving it last year, not doing so, and then hearts achieving it this year.

He's right. Winning the cup will simply paper over the cracks. We are a really poor team in a really poor league.

We are fortunate we had a decent start to the season. 4 points out of 27 and we are only 7th. That could change dramatically if we lose the next few games which is entirely possible. Im not one for calling for a manager to be sacked but how long do we allow this to continue before it's too late.

He lost me as soon as he came out with that as well

He's either one of those mad Lennon fans that haven't stopped crying since he left (there's quite a few of them), or he's at the wind-up

The fact that so many on this thread don’t realise there is guaranteed European group football to play for this year is indicative of the situation of neglect at the club.
Granted it might not be 3rd place if either Celtic or Rangers don’t win the Scottish Cup. But then the Scottish Cup would be a second avenue to the group stages if by some miracle the OF don’t win the cup.
Every single Rangers Fan & Every single Celtic fan know they are practically guaranteed Champions League group stages if they win the league. Their respective clubs have spoke how this is their target and are desperate to achieve it.
Did Hibs inform the fans of the club targeting European Group Football?
No
Does RG even understand what it would mean to the club to achieve it?
No
This is the difference with clubs who are successful and those who play to make up the numbers.

N/b The point I was making about Lennon was the club had a chance to continue the feel good, packed stands etc.
Instead they made poor (cheap) choices and put us on a downward trajectory.
