I’ll probably get pelters for this but if you’re attacking more you’re more likely to get a penalty. There is I will concede however more pressure on refs from crowds howling for one that may sway them. It’s human nature.

You make two good points there. On the other hand, it would be interesting to see how many penalties they are awarded when the score is 0-0 and in the last quarter of the game, or the other team are putting them under pressure.

How many pens they get, and if they get them when they need them isn't the point...all that I care about is how many penalties they get that the 10 other SPL teams wouldn't get.

TBF ,Hibs are not exactly far behind in the number of penalties awarded.

If you take the average per season instead of the total, we're actually above Celtc, as are Hamilton and Kilmarnock.

On average this is probably true, but I remember Mowbray pointing out we had spent more time in the opposition box than than any other team and were only awarded 1 penalty. (Or something like that)

Referees have a difficult job - they have to make a decision in a split second, which is hard when it's not clear-cut what's happened. If you've ever tried to referee a game, you'll know what I mean.

However, in that split second, I've always maintained a referee when officiating in a game involving the Old Firm only has to be 25% certain that it's an infringement impacting on an Old Firm player to give the decision in their favour. When it's the other way round, they need to be 75% certain that the non-Old Firm player has been fouled to give it in their favour. The %s are obviously guesswork, but directionally correct.

The refs were still being completely biased towards Sevco when fans weren't allowed to attend matches.

I think the more important statistic is how many players Rangers have had sent off in the League and how many they have had sent off in European games, you know, ones where a ref from the west of Scotland is in charge

Isn't it two years since they last conceded a penalty in the league? We are all just paranoid :greengrin

What?!? Is that true?

Now I think, I'm not sure. It might be they haven't had a red card in the league in two years. It's one or the other.

No.

Dunno the stats but I know Cummings missed a pen for Dundee against them this season.

Last red card they had was against Celtc in December 2019.

Aye, thanks. They haven't put a foot wrong in two years

That’s a surprise given they are 9 years old now:greengrin

Last red card given during the game. They have had a fair few retrospective ones in that time though and I think that’s the most important stat. That’s where referees have “missed” incidents during the game that they see when it’s opponents.

Surprised their average is only 6.7 per season, seems like there are a lot more penalties than that. In general, not just for them. Hearts possibly on course for some kind of record. Had 6 in the league before Halloween. Not had any since then mind you.

You would think from 2016 Celtic would have been the more attacking team scoring more goals, apart from the last year or so?
