View Full Version : Hibs media output

Clearly more important things in life and the main thing that matters is what happens on the pitch.
But, wtf is going on with the media output from Hibs right now? The press release last night about Newell looked like it had been written by someone who didn't know how to speak English.
And some of Hibs tweets have been really badly judged recently...the latest one using the botched display from last night as a picture....
It's a bit strange....

Having Matt Doherty on their 2nd December Insta post was what tipped it for me.

I was critically earlier on in the year. However I don’t agree that the output has been poor. We have a new team in place I think they are doing a great job. It will take some time for them to understand nuance around Hibs. However I think they’re doing a great job in the short time they have been here.
The output is has vastly increased and the quality is superb.
Seeing Jamie Murray and zemamma interviews were great. So too we’re the Jack Ross, Steve, Ben and Ron interviews. I’ve don’t remember access like this. I have really enjoyed it.
The picture of Porto with the caption “our CB” after the nonsense the west cost red tops were writing was perfect.
Guys if your looking in, thanks and we look forward to you getting us more and more every day. Soon enough if not already you will.
Blame Doherty not our new comms team at least they are putting a shift in.

Don't understand that, I don't know you.
However......
I have just gone through 24 hours of Hibs twitter, and there is nothing - not one - weird, odd, out of step tweet.
I don't do Instagram or tik tok as I am not 12, so you might have to tell us what the problem is.
Instead of posting drivel on here, how about just responding to whatever it is that apparently grinds your gears?
Some people simply want to moan for no reason at all.

Correct. Far too many moaners on here just now. It’s a bit grinding at times. Always a negative to be pulled out of any situation for some.

Ok so we have been getting ripped on social media for the attempt at the fans display v Rangers . Fair play to the guys for trying that, but in the end it was a pretty pathetic attempt.
So Hibs then put out this tweet with a picture of the botched display as if thats anything the fans want to see?

The comments say it all. Are you seriously telling me that's a well judged tweet?
The fact you think instagram and tik tok are for "12 year olds" sums up how little you understand about the world.

Although the vast majority of Hibs fans hate Docherty I can see why the posted him to a certain degree.
Playing in the EPL for Tottenham, not many ex Hibs players are playing at that high a level so it may be seen as some form of achievement or bragging right etc. I imagine he’s a name that people use when they try to sell the club to players, despite us not doing too much for him.
I’ve always found the hatred for him a bit much.

Our social media output has been much improved in recent weeks. It's an enthusiastic team in place now and it shows imo. It's not all for me but then I wouldn't expect it to be.
The statement about Newell was hilariously bad tbf. 'Upmost' being my favourite error. Asking a couple of people to look over it might have been a good idea.

OK, I thought that the display was a bit lame............but tbqhwy I cant really get myself in that much of a state about it.
As for the comments on that tweet you shared, there are 14 comments full stop so it seems an odd one to share as part of your assertion that the clubs media output is rubbish and that "the comments say it all".
As St Kristopher said above, the output has had a marked improvement since the new team bedded in, in the last week we have seen loads of stuff about Mueller, stuff about the LBGTQ++, Foodbank, Interviews with Hanlon............and thats just the stuff I caught.
Frankly, if you get upset about daft wee jambos, who only have one view of Hibs, "ripping us a new one" on twitter, then perhaps you need to stop consuming twitter as its not exactly a representative sample of society....

“Upmost” is still up there too.
Is it too much to ask for someone at Hibs to have enough attention to detail that they might have got the relevant person to go in and correct it at some point over the past 3 days?
That said, we had a banner outside my work offering “complimentray consultations” for a few weeks. I walked past it a few dozen times and didn’t notice and it took for my partner to give me a lift to work one day and alert me to it before I noticed. When I attacked it with a pair of scissors I noticed that some plucky member of the public had corrected it with a biro. At least the banner must have been getting noticed, I suppose.

Look, as the first sentence of my original post said I realise its not the most important thing in the world so I'm hardly getting in a state about it. Some people seem to be getting themselves in a state about some mild criticism of our media output.:na na:
I feel it's worthy of discussion as it reflects on the club - I can understand why some people wouldn't care either way and if people don't agree fair enough.
Re the tweet there's a comment from a Hibs fan pointing out it was a mistake to use that picture, which got more likes than the original tweet. There have been a few tweets recently that have been ideal for opposition fans taking the mickey.

A perfectly reasoned post, sadly its the way of this forum that rather than reading what you clearly stated, people go on the attack. I agree with your points, and I think its clear the people responsible for the output aren't "Hibs people".

Agree with LaMotta in principal. Not that I care too much but you can praise the club for having much more media content and a greater presence across social media all whilst thinking they've put out a few I'll judged posts and a slightly iffy statement.
Everyone laps it up when Budge or Sevco write a poor statement. Folk pick holes in everything that's said. It's always one way or another with some folk in here with no room for anything in between.

I think that for this job, in this situation, it is very helpful if the people involved are Hibs supporters. Possibly just short of absolutely essential.
There’s nuance involved - technical skill and knowledge is fine but “the ability to read a room” is probably key, and that probably comes best from a background in that occupation coupled with years of hard graft reading, talking, learning about and supporting our club.

Hibs forum to discuss all things Hibs, guy starts a conversation surrounding a Hibs matter, imagine the shock. Anyway, staying on topic…
maybe it’s a generation thing. Myself and others of a younger age group might well stay more in tune with the social media side of the club than those older than us. Not saying that’s the overall consensus, just a suggestion. Having a background in communication might enhance my scrutiny a tad more too. In regards to our current social media performance I think it’s fairly representative of where the club and team on the pitch find themselves to be. Hit what you may call a peak a few seasons ago. Overhaul has clearly been implemented, some new exciting ideas have been shown but I think there’s a lot of room for improvement to still come. The OP isn’t the only one to find some posts recently a bit strange, and completely understand and agree with the point of the Tifo picture. Without opening a can of worms (really) I think the posts after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death were both very unnecessary and very very ill judged. With the old team and Kenny M it was pleasant to feel in sync for most of the time with the club’s online profile. A lot of the time now it doesn’t hit quite the same.
And please, it’s just opinions.

That's fair and I agree. I think it's more a case of some of the questionable posts and content has been fairly recent and folk are a little concerned that it's making us look a little silly. Pointing that out and making sure we get things right will alleviate those concerns.

When I first started following hibs on Twitter (must’ve been around 2014) there wasn’t as much emphasis on “fan relations”. They used to tweet any important (I stress that word) news during the week and then literally tweet updates from the game on match day.
That was it, and that was fine for me, I get that it’s more focussed on younger Hibs fans now and more fan-oriented but, personally, I don’t need 500 tweets midweek about how Martin Boyle has had his second dump of the day or Drey Wright is scared of the dark.
Am I miserable? 100%
I think the media output is ok & social media is vastly improved , what I did notice at the rangers game was the buzz around the screens had gone ? It seemed to be the same adverts and content
The team line ups for example were just put up like a static power point, all very boring, compare that to the team line ups being announced at hampden and the content on the screens there I’m not asking for a light show or anything (however I do think they are smart) I just think we could do more to get a buzz around the place for games

Why is this any more of a shan comment (which I don't think it is btw) than your original post?
You have a problem, the poster told you if it bothered you that much to speak to them.
Isn't that how complaints are meant to be resolved?
Methinks, you thought you would come on here and jump on a bandwagon and get some fanboy posts agreeing with you and didn't like it much when you were called out.

I mean I've only pointed out several times on this thread that it's not a major issue of importance and that I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'm hardly going to "complain" to the club. :hilarious It's not a complaint its some mild criticism of our media output.
It's actually amazing how many people can't read things properly.
In all seriousness though, in case you hadn't noticed this is a Hibs messageboard for fans to post opinions about things related to the club. You don't get to choose what those opinions are but you can ignore threads if they don't interest you.
And you know what - quite a few people actually agree with me.:na na:
Ps the poster I responded to likes to dish out the "shan comment" response to others, so it was a wee silly dig about a comment which brought nothing to the thread:aok:

Totally agree. The PR and social media output from Hibs has been amateur at best recently… Seriously needs sorting out.

It's always been like this on here. Every time someone has a gripe about Hibs media output they get slaughtered, no matter how sensibly they make their point. I remember commenting about Hibs main banner headline in the official site back in Stuart Crowther's regime having "Hibernian" spelt wrongly. Jumped upon on here as usual, "who cares, it's trivial" "have you nothing better to do" etc. etc. The Newell statement is just dreadful, how it wasn't checked I have no idea.

I haven’t seen someone use the word ‘shan’ since the 90’s
Neither had I until the other day!

You've confused fury and defensiveness with not desperately slagging off the club. They are extremely different things. I know some people will find that confusing.

Shock horror
Someone says something some other people disagree with and before you know it they have huge laughable posts overdramatising the issue
Frankly who gives a ****?

You've quite clearly confused desperately slagging the club with minor valid comments about questionable media output. Hope you get over your confusion soon!
