After the Queen dies, that should be time to draw a line under it.
Imagine having someone elected as Head of State rather than someone who has inherited the metal hat. It'll never catch on here.

I think Charles may see a dip in their popularity.
He's a stop gap though and that wet blanket 'Wills' seems inexplicably popular.
They aren't going anywhere anytime soon sadly.

Sorry, I beg to differ.
Whether the monarchy ends after that, it's a very different question.

I wish.

Where would the line be drawn if it wasn't the end of the monarchy?

I offered the view that the monarchy should end after the Queen dies. That's what I mean by saying it is time to draw a line under it.
I agree that it won't be.
Your answer "No chance".
Is that a no chance it will end? No chance, but it should end, or a no chance, I'm an avid supporter of the monarchy and feel they do a valuable and worthwhile job?
:greengrin
Its a - no chance it will end, as the ruling classes require someone to be on the top rung of their invented class ladder which enables them to cling on to the rungs just below, kicking everyone else to the bottom type "no chance".
Metal hats, animal skin and feather costumes - a weird, Dark-Ages, throwback way to run a country. "Game of Thrones" is a fantasy but mostly allegory. Well done Barbados for bringing themselves into the modern age.

Wish we were a modern independent country and could make the same mature decision Barbados has.

I think the monarchy should carry on. It should however be a self sustaining entity. We should discard the titled elitism the honours system and the House of Lords Let them get on with it. The ceremonial stuff is quite quaint.

Well done them. What I find hard to understand is why it takes former colonies so long to ditch the monarchy. I'm pretty sure when the Queen is eventually replaced by Charlie that Australia, NZ, Canada etc will end that farcical nonsense. Hopefully an independent Scotland will follow suit

And one of their biggest former slave plantations inherited by a Tory MP. Locals been calling for it to be opened up for years but not a chance. Hopefully he will be shamed into doing the right thing. Hundreds of peoples ancestors littered around the site.

I was reading that 65 countries celebrate a Independence from Britain day in some form, making it the single most commonly celebrated festival on the planet. (I think you could quibble about whether this is actually Christmas Day, personally, does the Chinese world actually ‘celebrate’ it just because there’s a shopping event?) But you see the point, every 6 days someone celebrates not being the pink bit on the map anymore.

Probably just get someone like Dorries to explain how they are actually victims here.

Very much this. However, we won't even get chance to vote on it. I'm sure a referendum would be heavily in favour of keeping the monarchy, but it would be nice to be asked what we think.

I think there should be a separate referendum for each of the (alleged) four nations.
If Scotland, for instance, vote to dump them, then we shouldn't still be tied to a Monarchy just because other parts of the UK voted to keep them.
They should then lose any royal residences in Scotland, e.g. Holyrood and Balmoral

The Queen is above the law.
Nobody should be above the law. (She could kill anyone in this country and there’s no legal mechanism to prosecute her).
This simple example for me is the number one reason to get rid.

If she tried to kill me, and I self-defended myself, and killed her. Would I go to jail?

J..and because her Dad's brother wasn't allowed the metal hat because he wanted to marry a divorcee, so the metal hat was bounced down to him. If the Nazis had won the war her uncle would more than likely have been given the metal hat back, and she wouldn't have been given it at all.
No matter though. Whoever wears the metal hat, whatever their character - we all have to bow and grovel in the their presence.

Possibly, but if your army was big enough you may be the new King.

They got the name Redlegs because of the harsh effects of the sun.
