He’s away back to Boro.
On par with Darnell Johnson as one of the most pointless signings ever. Only highlighting further how poor our recruitment was over the summer.

Potentially leaves us very light in defence just hope no injuries or suspensions however every chance Porto could be targeted on Wednesday

Very strange timing, youd have thought the next month would have been his best opportunity to get some game time. The official club statement saying he was recalled partly to 'continue our good relationship with Middlesborough' sounds like it was maybe at their request and they weren't happy with how the loan worked out.

Had a quick nosey on Instagram and it appears he has deleted the few posts that were Hibs related on there.
Maybe not much to go on but suggests to me he maybe took the huff at how things had panned out up here.

Who do we have in the develpment squad at the back? Jack Brydon?
Can Mackie cover in the centre if required now he is fit? I suppose we still have 4 who can play centrally in Hanlon, Porteous, McGinn and McGregor but we could really do with another option.

Boro have a new manager, he probably wants to assess all his players and he is not exactly playing at Hibs. Knowing our luck he will make the first team now at Boro and go on to be some player

Does not get a game for Middlesbrough so why should he get a game for us. English championship not as good a league as we are led to believe.

It would be Doig before Mackie as a CB. We’d also play Gogic in there. Neither are the answer though.

These loans of young players from down south with no appearances rarely work. I get that McCart fell through but we should have had a better backup option.

He has to get through the St Johnstone match first.

England under 20s are basically full of players not good enough for the 21s. It's a strange age group, you won't find many first team players at big clubs in that age group. Hence why a guy who can't even get a game for Middlesbrough is captain.

Agree he would have been better going down the leagues in England on loan. Championship team championship player.

I'd guess at an attitude problem given how short handed we are, and the he played regularly on his previous loan spell in league 1.
Hopefully this means Finlay will be here sooner rather than later.

It’s a strange one, we’ve needed cover and save for one game, he’s not had a look in. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Scott’s Loan spell curtailed as well.
Mental that the squad was allowed to get into this state when there appears to be a very willing and supportive owner happy to make signings.

I don’t get the timing of this in the slightest.
Surely we should keep him around until January when we can strengthen?
Although I notice it said he’s returning for the remainder of his loan spell - does this mean, if required, we could still play him?
He will still be with us on loan and the loan won’t be cancelled/finished until January? Is it a case of he’s not playing so Middlesbrough want him training with them?
If worst comes to worst could we get him back?

I know he only got one game, but from that appearance he really did look way out his depth. I assume training and bounce games backed that view up to the management team.

Who was the centre half we got on loan from Monaco that never kicked a ball? Under Collins? I’m sure I’m not making this up.
Edit: it was Torben Joneleit! Still not sure if he actually played a game for us though.

He did look out of his depth but he looked like he needed games to learn.
Just at a lower level than the often underestimated Scottish Premier League.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he went on to have a stellar career and became one of those “remember when he came on loan to us and was pish” sorts.

His one appearance was a very uncomfortable watch. Really felt sorry the guy as he looked totally lost at sea.
Just one of those that looked a good deal on paper but simply never worked out. Our loan deals have in the main been very fruitful for both parties in recent years so this was a bit of a rare failure.

This would suggest we have someone coming in in January. Wood was caught out with the pace of the game with his one and only appearance. I guess the game up here is literally a whole different ball game to under 21 international football and reserve league down south or whatever he’s been playing.

Shame it didn’t work out for the boy
Looked out of his depth in his only appearance
As others have said the pace of our game the physicality and sheer intensity often catches incomers off guard and we could not afford the luxury of allowing him a bedding in period
I hope he will not consider his time at Hibernian FC to be a total waste of time and can move on to be a success in his career

He wasn't an u21 international. He's an u20 international. Actually quite a big difference. Very few of Englands real good players play u20 for more than 4 or 5 games. U21s is where the good ones go.
Don't really agree he was caught out. Literally his debut and he was no doubt Rusty and nervous. Distribution was poor but you can never judge a player on 1 bad match.

I don't know what we saw in him when we must have watched him, that he couldn't do when he got to our club. I have no real knowledge of U21 football, but if it is fringe reserves playing against other reserves, it's maybe no surprise that first team football against older players found him a bit short.

Thing that surprised me about him was how appalling he was at certain basics. He look weak and pish in the air for a big lad. You’d ag least expect him to dominate that department whilst having rough edges that might show up elsewhere. His reading of the game actually looked largely ok (with a couple of “moments”) and whilst his passing fell short of the standard of Hanlon and Porteous it didn’t look too bad.
Hanlon and Porteous actually set a very high example in that regard.

One game I know but I thought he looked a wee bit too sure of himself to start with and quickly realised at those “moments” it wasn’t the cakewalk he had been sold. And so did everyone watching him.

On paper it looked a good signing. He was obviously signed at the last minute after we couldn't get the St Johnstone target. He was always meant to be a short term solution for a maximum of one year. I seem to remember a lot of talk about the danger of him being recalled at new year.
Due to the performances of Hanlon and Porteous he never really got a look in. The once we did it was, at the time, our worst performance of the season and he, along with others, had a nightmare.
A new manager has come in at Middlesboro and he will want to impress him. He wasn't going to do that here.
Good luck to him. Some things just don't work out.
