I am sure it was the 1972 league cup final the club and made the pop record Turnbulls Tornadoes and Hibernian give us a goal. They composer I think was Johnny Keating my dads mate from school.
Still sung today at games stood the test of time.
Wonder what song would be done today probably a rap by Ryan.

I think Sheila Hart had some input but I think Johnny Keating who wrote most of it.

We need to add this man to the famous Hibs supporters. Produced the singles and wrote most of it as well.Shelia Harts input was suggesting the tune for it.

The Keating family are big Hibs fans and Johnny’s son, Martin, is still in the music business in London I believe, running a school. A few years ago he sent me a couple of classic tracks - namely those which were recorded for the “Team that wouldn’t die” video in 1991. Absolutely brilliant Hibs songs that I’d love to hear played at Easter Road!

I see it
I am well aware of Johnny Keating and what a talent he was and a big hibee
I find it hard to believe he would allow a record label to attribute his work to another composer and plaster her name all over the ‘45 - see link
I agree there is no doubt Keatings had a big influence on Hibernian Give Us A Goal but the credit should still go to Shiela Hart for having the initial idea and writing it
I believe Taylor Swift is currently having to redo all her music as someone stole her copyright :greengrin
Pretty sure there have been threads on this topic in the past certainly came up in the Lockdown Quizes

No problem Billy its just I have a recollection that there was a article in a newspaper that her name appeared on it to keep the chairman happy. Johnny did this as a Labour of Love so probably wasn't that bothered.

What about the ‘Hi-bee, Hibernian’ single from sometime in the late 80’s I think? No sure exactly why it was produced? Don’t think it was for a cup match or anything

Is there a reason why 'Turnball's Tornadoes' sounds so similar to 'Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon, or just a coincidence? I used to think that they were the same song with different lyrics when I was a kid!

Lennon's Xmas single was heavily indebted to Keatings and Hart's superb Turnbull's Tornadoes. It's fair to say Lennon always wore his musical influences on his sleeve.

He was at the Hibs game v East Fife in 1968 and heard the Hibs fans singing, "all we are saying, is give us a goal", before you know the buggers got a solo single out and Give Peace a Chance becomes a worldwide hit.

And he has the cheek to write "How do you sleep?" for McCartney. :cb

I believe Sheila did write, at least the lyrics, to Hibernian Give Us A Goal. My family & Hart family were good friends at the time. Johnny certainly took over & made a huge contribution to both the writing & production of the record. The music for the 'Turnbull Tornadoes' side is based on an old traditional song about a horse, Skewball, so was Lennon's lesser known effort!
I was also lucky enough to get to know Johnny & his sons, Martin & Kevin (RIP) in later life.
On a separate note Everton still walk out to Z Cars, as did Watford until 2019. Z Cars was performed by the Johnny Keating Orchestra & was a Top 10 hit!

Annoyingly, he never gave the Hibs fans any credit. You'd expect better of him.

Not sure of your reasoning here Billy or what you mean but Colin Chisholm did indeed perform the song in question, was a Hearts man, probably still is, and was schooled and lived in a wee part of the world where he was definitely the exception to that rule.

My reasoning was that the poster in question on Keekback said that he was a regular in Luckies at the time so he must be a yam :greengrin
Still a tune though

He is definitely a Hearts supporter and always was. I don’t read Kickback but the poster called it right.
Yes, it’s a tune if that’s yer bag of a tune but one definitely performed by a Hearts fan.
Sorry if that’s spoiled it but it was never a secret. He can still be seen doing the old 1-5 thing in some circles.

The song we are talking about was first played at Easter Rd on the night Hibs played Rangers in a Scottish Cup replay.Over Fifty thousand at the game which Hibs unfortunately lost 2-1 to them.Seem to recall that the winner was scored by Tommy McLean.Carnage on the terraces and afterwards.

Sheila Hart wrote the words and music to Hibernian (give us a goal)
Johnny Keating did Turbulls Tornadoes
Look at the 45 label which is correct
Sheila was a talented writer in her own right composing many songs.

Listened to Turnbull’s Tornadoes just now, by christ it took me back. Elbe St , Leith ( long demolished tenement). The best month in my Hibs loving history. League Cup victory over Celtic, 8-1 Ayr Utd, soon to be followed by the greatest game in history.
I was 8 years old and Hibs had a song that sounded uncannily like Merry Xmas-War is Over, by John Lennon. It had a slightly melancholy feel to it, then the rousing Hibs, Hibs, Hibs for the cup. Loved it.
Just to settle things. The song was written by John Keating and James McPherson, Sheila Hart is uncredited. Copyright is John Keating Music Ltd.
