Anyone know why the players don’t have their names on the back of their jerseys.

So they can deny they were even there if we lose......

I think Doig is struggling.

That should have been red there.

Very lucky to have 11 players on the pitch. What was the motion the ref was making there? Seemed to imply it was a high ball or maybe it was contestable/not a clear opportunity?

I think because it bounced so high the boy has a fair bit to do so wasn’t deemed a clear opportunity to score. Lucky

Think he was implying that the bounce of the ball meant it wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity ?

Thought he’d been playing well, unlucky with the penalty

Not a decision I’d say I’d agree with tbh, he denies him the chance to control the ball and he’s through on goal!

Scotland fortunate that half time came when it did.

They need to close down Belgium a lot better because if they get another goal the games over for Scotland.

Good to see his rehab continuing! Gerrard's departure should also help!

Would love to see the stats on what % of u21 players actually make it to the senior squad, per nation. For example comparing Scotland with say Belgium.

2-0 Belgium

Not entirely relevant but I'm not sure it's an exclusively Scottish thing.

I was looking back at the Scotland and Spain teams that contested the under 19s Euro finals a few years back. Of the Scotland team Lee Wallace and Graham Dorrans both made it to double figures for senior caps. A few others had decent club careers (Garry Kenneth, Scott Fox, Mark Reynolds) and a few dropped down the levels quite quickly with some falling out the game completely.

The Spanish team as a whole down better in their club careers. However only Pique (102) and Mata (41) broke double figures for senior caps. A few others got 2 and 3 caps.

Looking through the various other finals that followed it would seem a hit rate of 2 or 3 players making any significant impact at senior level is about par for the course. Any more than that is the exception.

Middleton had to go off with an injury so a good chance he will miss our game against St J 6 days after the Rangers semi.

Steven Fletcher was suspended for the final but went on to easily get double figures for Scotland appearances.

Would imagine in terms of % that Portugal would be up there. I remember working with a Oortugues guy in 98-99 before Figo & co really burst on to the scene and he said that was their approach to take the team through the age groups so it’s like a club.

As I said above, it would be interesting to see the % comparison by country. In recent seasons, there are lots of good examples of players that have bypassed the u21s and gone straight into the senior team - Gilmour/Paterson at Scotland, Foden plus others at England.

Were Gilmour and Patterson not with the u21s last season?
