Clearly a lot of anger among ex-soldiers about how his final years were overshadowed. Any current or ex-armed services personnel who served in NI on here? Be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Probably up to the people of Northern Ireland to say what past crimes should be forgotten in the name of peace. But if the crime by they 2 soldiers was committed today, one of the soldiers would rightful be locked up for attempted murder and the other murder

He died an old man.

This isn't a case I'm familiar with, so I clicked on the link in the OP and googled the name in Pretty Boy's post.

Without knowing anything about it I'm not going to offer any sort of an opinion - other than to comment that as ever there are 2 sides to the story and it is interesting to note how differently events can be portrayed in different publications.

It's also strange to note that speaking as a protestant whose brother is currently serving in the armed forces and who has had relatives serve and die in the British Army - that my opinion is invariably more swayed by the Irish side in situations like this.

Probably because your a decent person. The two don't have to be separate, respecting the army and believing soldiers have to behave in a legal manner

Good post it isn't about sides but right and wrong. Very difficult case which is easier viewed from nowadays rather than at the height of the troubles in 1974 where there were no doubt similar shootings taking place.
