See they were at it again. Their manager saying they wanted or could take 5000 tickets for Aberdeen trip.
They have a recurring need to show the world (Hibs) how big they are. Came across another example of this.
Now let me say this is not in any way a slight on Willie Bauld. I believe he was a very very good player and a fantastic kind and warm individual who was tragically to die way way too soon (49)
Merchiston Hearts had a wall plaque made and it reads Willie Bauld " Scotland's greatest Centre Forward"
Willie Bauld 3 Scotland Caps 2 goals
13 Scottish League Caps 15 goals
Lawrie Reilly 33 Scotland Caps 22 goals
14 Scottish League Caps 14 goals
Never let the facts get in the way of a good story!
Two fantastic centre forwards who were loved by their fans
RIP

As we all know, caps to players for Scotland mostly depends on what Glasgow club you played for!
Over the years it is so obvious that some players were always good enough for Scotland but never got the chance as they played for a less fancied side!
An easy example is Andy Walker, was a great player for Motherwell but never got a call up?
Moved to Celtic and played for Scotland before he debuted for Celtic, STRANGE Ehhh?

Did Hibs not pay for the Willie Bauld testimonial match ball so he was able to keep it as a momento of the occasion, Hearts wanted him to pay for it even though it was his testimonial.

V Sheffield United. I think the story was that Hearts deducted the fee for the ball from his proceeds. Bauld fell out with the club and I think it was a long time before he set foot in the place again, if he ever did.

May be an urban myth, but I did hear a story that Hibs gave him money to cover the cost of the match ball.

Might be true but I’m not sure why Hibs would ever have been involved.
It’s still a nice thing to bring up though, a wee bit like Tom Farmer paying for the stolen poppies :greengrin

Aye and their Terrible Trio had it over Hibs big time, not that I remember as they were just before my time, but certainly won a few cups when playing for the manky ones.
Our Lawrie would have to go done as the greatest at least since the end of World War 2. Problem is he never played for any of the horrible weedgie ones.

Let's be clear, the Aberdeen spokesman on sportsound said, in the past 20 years, Hearts average away supporter was 960!! They got the right amount, As we probably got as well.

The way we have been playing lately, some of us feel way older than that. 😁

Schoolboy error from me. Can I call that a typo ?
Anyhow, still "Scotlands greatest centre forward"
A Scottish international centre forward who was replaced by an English International centre forward.
Wonder how Lawrie and Joe were "recruited" ?
