Pollution no more.

Some of the current double parking and parking around Leith is ridiculous so glad something is being done about that.

Will they make those who park and pay for a permit near the stadium move still on a match day ??

Always much quicker parking further from the ground and walking rather than sitting in traffic / tram roadworks.

Also I assume you can do pay and display in these areas still so that's still possible.

Is there not an app where you can hire someone’s driveway for a few hours?

Sure I read someone talking about that when going to hampden recently.

Maybe not ideal but hopefully it might be an option.

Zones N6 and N7 are only in operation between 08.30 and 17.30 Monday to Friday though.

Given we play on weekday evenings or weekends I don't think this will make any difference to people's ability to park near the stadium - people can park on single yellow lines or in controlled zones outwith the times listed above for N6 and N7.

There’s loads of folk share cars coming in from out of town, take turns driving so they can go for a few pints before the game. The vast majority, especially the older less fit will give it a miss as the hours it would take on public transport make it very difficult. It’s hard enough to drag myself along as it is just now without adding hours onto the journey. I really can’t see an option to park in a driveway in Lochend being much of a success TBH 😃

Forgive me if this comes across as insensitive.

To my mind, unless there are physical or other impairments is it unreasonable to expect those who can to walk to the stadium, even from the extreme ends of the parking restrictions? Or am I missing something?

My Dad spent years telling me we'd "never get parked" near the stadium when I was young - we had longish (20-30 min) walks from various spots he'd identified. When I eventually learned to drive myself, I proved him wrong by being able to get parked fairly close most weeks ( within 5-10 mins) - and referred to his approach to parking as the Alex Miller approach.

Now his mobility is in a bad way I park 300 yards from the stadium, so I'm glad my more daring approach to seeking out parking spaces had paid off.:greengrin

My Dad will never be able to ( unfortunately) get on public transport again so its not an option for him - only way is to go by car and get close.

I think for many people though it's just the hassle, extra time involved, and extra cost. When things aren't going that great for the team and people are in two minds whether to go, the convenience of going by car could seal the deal.

Way too much time bussing it in from Midlothian and the expense of the train and bus for that matter would be too much to justify. I'll maybe just be an away fan from that point and pick and choose home games unless I can park nearby. Don't mind a 10 or 15 minute walk but the council seem hell bent on making Edinburgh as terrible a place as possible for car owners to visit. They don't seem to have an issue with the tons of CO2 created by foreign visitors they are desperate to attract

There's usually 4 of us, sometimes 5. Our total journey there and back is around 90 miles ..... On a Wednesday night even parking close to the stadium by the time we get home its between 10:30 and 11:00 pm. If we parked about a mile from the ground and had to walk or wait for a bus back to the car we wouldn't be home until about 11:30 or so ... hardly ideal for one of our group who starts work at 8am and walking any distance isn't very handy for my pal with the double hip replacement.

Public transport to weekend games from the Borders is a giant pain in the arse, it would increase our journey time by about an hour, maybe more, and more than treble the cost of travel. On a Wednesday night it's totally impractical for folk who finish work at 5pm to get public transport to the game from Selkirk. In my case I work part time, but I don't finish my shift until 6:30 ... by car I can make ER for the kick off ok, but by public transport, or if I had to park a mile from the stadium, no chance.

It's not often I have a bother parking where I do, but if parking is restricted on the other side of the stadium and folk start looking around Lochend it's just going to be a nightmare.

Another nail in the coffin for Edinburgh by the spiteful City Council which makes me wonder why there haven't been riots in the streets yet. The selfishness and tunnel vision of some astounds me.

From my own perspective it takes around three and a half hours to drive from my house to park somewhere in the vicinity of ER but you can expect another hour sometimes. Public transport? With all the tram works near Leith it hasn't helped the traffic and parking situation - Pilrig street open / Pilrig Street shut etc.

Hopefully it will settle down in near future.

The good news is Easter Road is still relatively easy to get to. Be careful what we wish for as we avoided an out of town soulless stadium with no local facilities.

Hibs should work with bus companies to offer park and ride from areas around the city with specific pick up and drop off points.

Not sure if it will affect anyone but another road is closed for a year in Edinburgh - Craigleith Road closed to sort the drainage.

There is also still temporary lights at Canonmills - haven't seen anyone actually working there since they were put up.

The bridge needed work done to it and shock they found more issues hence the long and costly repair process.

Think I park at the same place as you, hope no one find out where it is! Want to tell me where it is just to confirm we park at the the same place?

Nearly, NEARLY got me!

We should move to an out of town location with great big car parks.

I can't imagine anybody objecting to that.

I remember being able to park in the middle of the road, possibly Albert or Iona St?

Did that not used to happen on Easter Road too????

I saw they were closing parts of it at night. Wasn’t aware of day time closures?

The bridge needed work done to it and shock they found more issues hence the long and costly repair process.

Getting across Edinburgh is definitely becoming much more tricky.

Add in the low emissions 2 year trial from next year also - you will definitely see more to Let signs in central areas - loads of shop units with them just now.
The council want us all on bikes buses and Trams that's their transport policy. I live outside the town and only time I go anywhere near the city centre is going to the game.

Straiton still has some land available😁
But you would have problems with the bypass as they were told to make it three lanes with hard shoulder, what did the do make it two lanes with hardly any hard shoulder.

Looks like the end of parking near the stadium.

Maybe you should have read the whole article, instead you have whipped up an unnecessary frenzy.

you wont get anywhere near ER soon by car, the northbrige closes nest month so the place will be gridlocked:rolleyes:

Have you got a link for this happening?

What the hell are they doing to that bridge? They’ve been working on it for about 3 years, they could’ve rebuilt it in that time.

Drivers have been warned to avoid North Bridge in Edinburgh this week due to a series of repair works being carried out.

The bridge has been under a renovation for some time, however the road will be closed for three nights as part of the project is carried out.

Starting on Wednesday (October 27), the road connecting the Old Town and the New Town will be closed to motorists and public transport, with diversions in place.

Running from 8pm until 6am, work will be carried out through the early hours, with the repairs set to be completed by Saturday.

Albert and Balfour Street as well, I used to nearly get knocked over lots as a kid for wandering out without looking

👍

I was just making people aware of the closure tonight. Don't want them coming out of ER after the match without knowing it's closed from 8pm.

Timed to to coincide with roadworks on Lothian Road ( widening the pavements and narrowing the road ) and the extra spaces for people on George 4th Bridge.

It makes you think our Roads Dept want to see gridlock.

Not sure on how segregation works for CatA games these days, if I park nr Sainsburys on London Rd can you still walk down the short way at the back of the shop to get through to the West Stand or is it the longer walk around by Easter Rd? thanks

Path is open behind Sainsbury’s but you will probably have to wait 10/15 mins or so after the game for the utterly preposterous scenario of home fans being held back from walking their own streets.

The spaces for people on George IV Bridge have been taken away thankfully. Yesterday I watched 2 busses try and pass each other on The Mound, it ended with both busses having to reverse which I thought was illegal.

The department and politicians responsible are anti-car, a fact that is discussed pretty openly within the council.

It seems North Bridge is in serious trouble and could end up closed to traffic altogether. Serious structural issues due to the amount of traffic going over it. Doesn’t sound like an easy fix made more complicated by the fact its owned jointly by CEC, Network Rail and the Scotsman hotel (or so I’m lead to believe)
