Is this really a thing?
To me, it seems unlikely that this would be possible never mind practical.
I know that there are evil people who spike drinks, it was once done to me, but unless there are skilled medical practitioners out there doing it, I don't understand how it could be happening.
I accept that my doubts may be unfounded and that a logical explanation might surface, but until it does, I can't help but be just a touch sceptical.

There seems to be plenty reports of it happening in Nottingham. It does seem quite bizarre when you think about it though. In my mind it involves someone with a syringe injecting another person with something, but maybe there’s a simpler method that I don’t know about. Either way anyone who does this no matter what method is an utter lowlife who should spend a longtime in jail.

Vice asked some medical professionals about this. They basically said there's not really any compounds people could use discreetly to do this. They would need a large needle and a large ammount of liquid as there's no chance of them finding a vein so they would be injecting into muscle. Also it would be very painful at the time.
I don't doubt some arse has probably tried this somewhere at somepoint but i Really doubt it's happening in multiple cities simultaneously.

Something is going on.
Whether the injections are effective or not is another argument but the Police have confirmed in a few of the cases that the injuries were consistent with a needle wound.
Suggestions that it is epi-pens rather than syringes.
I remain to be convinced myself. Still some men are ***** and will find novel ways to mess with people.

There must be copycat incidents going around then. My daughter has just started Dundee Uni, she was out last week at Subway because Aura was shut, out of 5 girls, 3 were spiked with needles, all 3 felt terrible afterwards but weren't unconscious or such. All have marks and I've seen the pics so unsure what is being injected if anything. As a kid from the 70's, I've got as many concerns with the skiing as I do with "clean needles".
A couple of weeks ago, one of my daughter's friend were spiked but believe it was the traditional way of interfering with their drink. She had to go to hospital, she was tested as having Ketamine in her system and the girls are adamant none of them to anything untoward, knowingly.
After the first incident wasn't treated too seriously by the police, the girls were reluctant to report the latest "spiking" but after I pestered my daughter(who thankfully wasn't affected) the girls have since reported.
Scary times for young folk (and the parents).

Must be really worrying for these kids and you as a parent hearing about this …there seems to be so little respect between some people and others these days - trying to harm people without caring about the consequences…despairing really …

The thing I don't understand is, there's no profit (perhaps not the correct phrase) in spiking the girls, none were in such a state that they could be taken advantage of.
I wonder if this is someone trying to create a hysteria,,,,

Two men have been arrested in Nottingham. Report stipulates that it isn't regarding using needles but seems to suggest spiking of drinks.
A focus has been on the Pryzm night club which has separate student nights for the city's two unis I believe. The city heaving with students as it is at this time.

Perhaps …hope it fades away if that’s the thing . Although these things seem to stick around for many years

Possibly but I think they could certainly be taken advantage of. Some victims describe not remembering anything until waking up in hospital the next day.

The police not treating it seriously is a disgrace.

I don't want to say much more here, but one of the girls was 17 in an over 18 establishment. Apparently this is an issue.

ketamine would be the most effective intramuscular sedative but with an effective dose it would typically cause to victim to loose consciousness within a few minutes, probably while still in the club

one of my friend’s daughter was spiked with ketamine several weeks ago, fortunately her friends were with her and immediately noticed the change in her, and ultimately got her to hospital, where she was kept for several hours. She has little memory of the entire evening. Truly frightening

Something as easily accessible as an insulin epipen could be used with devastating effects in the hands of some nutter. Because of the fine needle gauge and short length, there's also a good chance the victim might not even notice they've been injected in a crowded environment.

Door staff, licensing, ID checks etc.
The girl concerned felt more questions were asked about her than the spiking/needling. Was very close to victim blaming.
Thankfully, when it happened a second time to a girl within the same group, and after me getting on my daughter's case, a member of student support staff picked up on their reluctance and reported via another route.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/wxdenq/heres-what-we-know-about-reports-of-women-being-spiked-with-needles-in-uk-clubs
I had read this article but there was also a police doctor saying the same that it is impossible to spike by injection in reality. That doesn't mean spiking in drinks isn't happening or on the increase
A movement to boycott nightclubs amid a reported rise in spiking is quickly gaining momentum across the UK.
The Night In campaign calls on people to stay away from nightclubs for one night in a bid to urge venues to better protect clubgoers from harm.
The campaign, initially thought to have been launched by Edinburgh student Martha Williams, has now sparked a national movement following a series of spiking cases.

I read 5 different ladies on Twitter today all say they had been spiked with a needle in the last couple of days and they all posted pictures showing what, to my untrained eye, looked like needle marks.
If the scientific consensus is that it's not possible to actually induce unconsciousness or similar with this type of approach then WTF is going on? Is it just some craze for randomly stabbing people with needles? Is there a suggestion masses of women are making this up or there is some mass hysteria at play? Are peoples drinks being spiked and the needles are some kind of cruel deflection tactic?
It's all very odd and more than a bit concerning.

Was thinking the same.
I’m in no way saying it’s not happening because the photographic evidence would suggest it is. It just makes very little sense as to why people would choose this method as the experts seem to be suggesting it wouldn’t work. It would also seem to be an infinitely more risky tactic than spiking a drink I’d have thought.
All seems very high risk/very low reward for want of a better term to use.

The more I've read it's ridiculously unlikely. I think the more press is pushing horrible *******s who think it's funny to jab girls with something. I doubt they would spike with liquid in a drink and massively increase the chance of getting caught by doing something so painful.

It's hard to understand how so many people are being needled, yet no-one is ever caught doing it.

I’m loathe to suggest that it might be an urban myth as the photographs seem to suggest otherwise but it kind of reminds me of an urban myth that was doing the rounds when I worked in a cinema years ago whereby people were allegedly planting dirty needles infected with HIV in the cinema seats to infect folk with HIV.

Spike drugs sold on the dark web. Maybe selling them in the syringes.

We were speaking about it at work and people of all age groups had heard it when they were young. Some were saying it was true but I think it has to be a myth, surely just fall away.
Myths can create copycats. Like the needles in fruit myth that has actually had people doing it in a few different countries

Article is a nonsense and getting clicks of fear, even the guy from the charity at the bottom said its improbable. Why instead of easily crumbling it into a drink would you risk getting caught. That's not including you need to find a vane and if not have a large amount of liquid.

And to think virtually every young person in Edinburgh had heard of this when it all "happened" 30+ years ago, but without the advantage of Social Media.
The Scheme jungle drums could certainly give FB, Twitter & Snapchat a run for their money!

So wid yur Granny's telegraph system!
Old lad at work said he hated having one of the only phones in the street when he was wee. eople would constantly be in the house phoning, also he would have to run and get them if someone called. He said his ma would sit with a tea and a fag listening to everyone's conversations and giving advice whether they wanted it or not. Made me laugh as I can picture her and I've never met her
