By no means the first time we've read about such horrific incidents featuring teenagers, but this seems especially upsetting bearing in mind the national shock around Sir David Amess's murder. As somebody with kids in their teens I'm maybe especially affected when reading stories like this. I find the callous disregard for life among such young people both terrifying and bewildering.

I think there has always been groups that have placed little value on life. I remember being involved in a brawl on a bus whilst at school when someone quite nonchalantly stabbed someone in the eye with a screwdriver and walked away as though nothing had happened.
It doesn't make an incident like this any less shocking though. What a waste of at least 2 lives.

It's very sad, young boy had his whole life ahead of him. You can't fathom how difficult this must be for the families of the victim and the teen arrested.

Walked by the station on my way to work this morning - extremely sad to see the massive police presence still there, really highlighting how significant an event this was.
Glad to hear they've arrested someone for it. May the person responsible never see the light of day again!

He's 16. He'll be out before he's 30.

It’s horrific. You can barely imagine how hard that is to take for the family of the victim, such a tragic waste of life.

I'm not suggesting that his Court punishment won't see him eligible for release.
I'm suggesting there are a number of reasons he won't get out - especially as a child killer.

The knife culture in and around Glasgow is quite shocking, and always has been.
It's not the only place people use knives in a fight but the difference is that around here it seems to be the default.
If the same argument had happened in say Edinburgh or Dundee, it would probably* have ended up with one of them getting a few bruises.
* I'm not saying definitely, but a lot more likely.

Obviously this incident suggests otherwise, but I was led to believe that there had been a drastic improvement in this area over the past decade or so?
Glasgow has been held up as an example to other places in how to turn such cultures around. London for example I believe they were still very concerned about gangs and guns.

Not being silly here but is a 16 year old stabbing a 14 year old going to be treated as a child killer in prison?

He'll go to Polmont for 2 years and then be sent to Shotts (most likely), surely?

He could be in Polmont for up to 5 years as they keep young people up to the age of 21.
