View Full Version : Hibernian Matchday Programme Ideas Exchange

As posted on the other thread I’m opening this one for folks to get in touch with ideas or innovations they can bring to the table.
There are moves afoot amongst some of us to get a programme back on board, fan produced.
This would have to be voluntary, but we will need ideas from people and also some expertise from designers, typesetters, layout gurus etc.
Feel free to use this thread to post ideas or PM me if you like.
The desire would be for 8 or so affordable pages with the traditional content of years gone by. The veritable “Half Time Programme”.
It will mean management, a committee of some sort and places to meet to discuss, fund, agree and plan as well as some discussion with the club I dare say. But as I say seeds are already planted.
Please. Only contribute in the positive sense. If a programme isn’t for you there is another thread to debate that.

Hi Iggy
Just a couple of thoughts from someone who's not that bothered about the program but it's great to see those who love and want a program do something about it.
Would it be preferable to approach the club first to see if they would support you by allowing you to use things like the image of the Hibs badge etc? Not sure if this is more of a fanzine or an official unofficial programme if that makes sense.
Maybe the club would allow you to approach one of the Hibs partners who would maybe help fund/sponsor the publication? They would then become the main advertiser's of the publication?
Just a few thoughts which you have probably thought of yourself.

I'd be very happy to write for a 'new' programme if required. As stated elsehwere I have done the 'looking back' and 'visitors' articles in thr past.
I'd also suggest using the fantastic "This is how it feels" report on here as the match report. It's also edged towards Hibs but with an honesty and a detail that would befit such a publication.
Feel free to ask me anything.

More of the sales side Iggy, would be great to get some local retailers on board to sell it, week prior and on match day
You’d have thought some of the Retailers around ER would be wanting to sell it, plus other key areas that Hibs supporters live in

How about reaching out to John Stephen’s as someone who has done it quite recently ?? Just an idea

I studied journalism at Napier a couple years back so would be more than happy to contribute. Always hoped to write about Hibs one way or another :greengrin

Would definitely be happy to pay up front for the rest of the seasons worth of programmes (assuming it was a programme every home league match type of situation?) to help raise the cash to get it off the ground from the start.

A good clear team and player stats/results/fixture list section is important in my opinion.
Could this be the first “fan run” match programme in the UK?

This might be a stupid idea, but if this programme was to be put online (even a day or two after the match in question), I'd definitely subscribe assuming the price was reasonable.
A few online subscriptions could help to reduce the price of the print version and/or provide a bit of cash toward the first print run.

It’ll be available online hard copy, less sure about a digital version.

Hi Iggy, does that mean you intend to create your own website?

You'll need to be wary of copyright. Pictures can be expensive.

Good God no. 😁 It’ll be distributed from the printer mail order but better than that available to buy on the day.

Yeah good point. However maybe the club would be willing to assist such a fan run project? Any profits going towards HSL so ultimately back into the club?

I think the feeling is that if the club want involved they should just keep producing a programne 😁

Yeah true but all they would need to do is allow a couple images be used in this production. I get the feeling they don't want to invest the time and effort. Certainly worth asking someone at the club (Ben Jacobs?) for their thoughts?

It might be worth speaking to the guys who do the pictures for Hibs such as Alan Rennie and Cameron Allan. They might be able to offer something in the picture department.

Make sure none of the content is available online but that you talk about it a lot to get others talking about it.
They’ll then need to buy it to see what they’re missing.
Get the content right and you could really be on to something with this. It could become the ‘in’ thing amongst Hibs fans.
Kinda retro taking folk back to a simpler time. Younger fans will go for it if it’s got a cool, underground, risky feel to it. More fanzine or Viz than official content.
Best of luck.
Hope it works out, I'll defo buy at games I'm at.

What about a six to eight page effort with the centre fold being the outline of a pitch with the players, numbers and formation of the predicted HIBS lineup being on the left hand side and the opposition on the right leaving loads of space for ads ?

We have all sorts of people lined up and layout people and printer/publisher in place but we have no editor. Anyone Hibernian minded out there with anything to offer, please get in touch.

The more I think about this, the more interesting it gets. A fans driven programme, simpler style yet effective - could really connect with the fans at the game ..start a new trend
Hope you get your editor Iggy! [emoji106]

No editor yet but more and more brainstorming and a couple of significant steps taken towards things. A couple of PMs are now back out there so keep the ideas coming all Hibernians. Have to be honest, we don’t look like making Celtic but Rangers is realistic. If we get the first one out then it won’t stop.

Iggy, I see a Hibs double programme up for grabs on eBay for matches against Dundee and Aberdeen.
I take it this was not from your efforts.
It's a seller from Ukraine.
