View Full Version : Nathan Wood
Is he injured ? Not in the squad today ? Surely after the sending off it’s a game he would come on

Yup. This is what he was waiting for. Good luck to him.
Do we know yet why he wasn't included yesterday?

Someone mentioned he's down south with the England youth team, not sure how accurate that is.

He's named in the U20 squad, just realised the article says they meet next week but it's possible he's isolating or travelling.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions that he's not in the picture at Hibs just yet.

Worth starting him with Hanlon against DU. Not the place or situation yesterday to bring him on.

I can never understand this mindset.
If you're good enough to be part of Hibs' first team squad, you should be good enough to be used whatever the circumstance.
It was said about the young CH in Croatia when Daz was sent off.
Arguably, for me, there is less pressure under those circumstances as expectations would be lower. If a youngster makes a mistake that leads to us dropping 2 points against someone we'd expect to beat then surely that's more harmful for their development than chucking them in at the deep end somewhere we're expecting to struggle anyway?
Porto made his debut at Ibrox and did a great job of it iirc.

Devil's advocate you could argue it's not necessarily about pressure but the strong possibility of a pumping in the circumstances at Ibrox and his Hibs career is potentially dead in the water. On the other hand, what an opportunity to show your stuff with the team under the cosh and needing an hour of committed defending. Would personally lean on the side of experience but can understand both arguments.

Well said. Scottish clubs seems a lot more cautious when it comes to putting young players in centre defence (and particularly in goals) compared to teams abroad who you often see with young keepers/central defenders.

Putting on a 19 year old when you are down to 10 men at a full house at Ibrox is not how you introduce a young player to Scottish football. 11 vs 11 at ER is a different matter. JR knows.

And also, he wasn't on the bench 😁

Is Wood not a left sided centre half? If so would think Daz will come in to replace Porto instead of Wood.

Agree that made bringing him on difficult.

I remember speaking to someone at Hibs just after Porto made his debut.
They said that mentally he wasn't prepared for the game and it set him back a bit. He seemingly struggled at half time. The preparation of young players was altered following this experience.

Well in that case can we please assemble a first team squad capable of dealing both mentally and physically with the demands asked of it?
(I accept that a recent high-profile departure may be linked to any failure on our part to effectively do so).
