Just read this article:

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-celtic-acid-test-premiership-25088373

It mentions five instances where non-OF teams were sitting top in October.

I've always had this really faint memory of Hibs being top in December - but have no idea how to go about checking the stats. Can anyone remember? would need to have been sometime since 1996ish, as that's when I started getting into the football.

By the way, I'll be first to admit that this was most likely a vivid dream or an alcohol-induced stupor, but it seems so real in my head!!

Well, I seem to remember going top of the league on January 1, 1973!

Not sure about December but Hibs definitely went top in October under John Collins after a 1-0 win at Ibrox.

The few months after that though... :bitchy:

This report was actually amended as it originally said "Hibs moved temporarily back to the top of the league" - Celtic were at home to St. Johnstone later in the day. A win would have put them top - they drew 1-1.

Were we top when AS scored in about 30 secs against the hun even though we got humped eventually?

We went top after a 1-0 win at Ibrox under Collins. I remember that game well, Murphy goal and Rob Jones was sensational that day. Can’t remember if it was the same game where we kept the ball like Barcelona for long spells with Rangers chasing shadows. Sportscene even showed a 2 minute clip of us keeping the ball which only ended when Rangers fouled us near the half way line. There were many lows and valid criticisms, but folk forget just how good some of the highs under Collins were IMO.

What a first 3rd to the season that was. Undefeated, Boozy playing out his skin and controlling things easily.

Turned up to Ibrox late that day and returned to my car to see a nail sticking out the tyre from a lovely Govan resident.

interestingly all the pundits use language about hearts around splitting the old firm challenging at the top etc, unless ive missed it ive not heard any chat like that about hibs. Even the headline of that article has a negative slant on hibs.

TBH id like to keep it that way. It is tho another example of hibs not getting the respect they deserve.

It's amazing to think that after 8 games played, the winner of the Hertz - Motherwell game on Saturday will go top of the league but then could be replaced by the winner of The Rangers - Hibs game the following day. Any one of four teams could be top of the league by the end of the weekend.

Awww bless 'em! It's good that the wee diddy clubs get their day in the limelight.

They are doing well tbf. This new promotion bounce should see them stay up this year.

When was the last time Hibs and Hearts were on identical number of games won, drawn lost and same goal difference after playing at least three games?

I find it quite spooky that we seem to be replicating each others results every week.

Yeah that was the same game. Think it was Murphy who was fouled, but Hibs had put something like 30 passes together. Never been able to find clips of it on youtube.

That season when Ronny Deila was in charge, Aberdeen really bottled it. Lost count of the number of times Celtic dropped points only for Aberdeen to do the same every time.

He's here!

We went top under Fenlon in October 2012. Not sure how long it lasted, but we also beat Celtic around Christmas that year so maybe that's the season you're thinking of?

As someone else has pointed out, the 7-0 win took us top of the league and I imagine the Tornadoes topped the table on more than one occasion.

Going further back, I think Jock Stein had us top (or close to the top) of the league and on course for a league and cup double in the mid-60s before he abandoned us for Celtic.

We went top in November under Fenlon.

We weren’t near the top when we beat Celtic.

Hibs were top of the league in 1997-8 into September. A 4-3 home defeat by Rangers after Hibs were 3-1 on October 4, up spoiled things.

Hibs ended up relegated!

I remember that game well. Negri got a pie square to the pus, I still remember the brown sauce dripping down his face. That one hurt and like you said Hibs were all about boom and bust in those days.

We were second under McLeish for a good chunk of the season.

Hibs were top of the League when Ayr United came calling on the 13th December 1969 under the brilliant Willie MacFarlane who had us playing some fantastic attacking football

Hibs won this game 4-3 thanks to doubles from Pat Stanton and Joe McBride ( two pens )

Hibs did not play in the League again until two days after Christmas when they played Dundee away and were toppled from their lofty position thanks to a 0-1 defeat the Referee choosing to ignore a late double handball in the box by exhibee Centre Half Jim Easton

Hibs finished in third place qualifying for Europe in this season
