I assume it hit the boys hand, not sure he could have done much about it though?

He was absolutely awful, didn't think any of our 3 penalty shouts were actually penalties but to penalise Nisbet when he was away was a joke and also Efe took Boyle clean out the game

Hit his hand but it was fired at him from 2 yards away and he had his hand tucked into his body. We'd have been fuming if it had been given against us

When was the penalty appeal in the first half? Can only remember McCarts good tackle and I think Clark got a touch on the ball when we dives at the feet of Nesbit

Is the rule now not if it stops a goal bound shout it is a pen, irregardless of intent etc? Which I'm fine with.

The booking was maybe harsh but then getting a second was silly of McCart.

Both were in front of me and I agree that McCart got the ball, but it certainly looked like Nisbet touched the ball before being brought down by Clark. For obvious reasons there wasn't a replay on the big screen.

Maybe someone watching on Alba will be able to clarify what happened?

That's what I thought, possibly a correct decision under today's rules. Might be harsh but if his arm was slightly out (i.e. making his body artificially bigger) and the ball hit it, then it's a penalty. It doesn't matter if the shot was from point blank range and there was nothing he could do about it. Ball played man / accidental doesn't come into it any more, he stopped a shot with his arm so if it was out from his body a little then it's a penalty. Don't particularly like the change to the rule but that's what it is.

Would like to see it again to see the arm's position.

Might have been for the hand ball but looked more like it was for what he said to the ref. He was saying it hit his elbow (strange argument because that counts as hand ball) and then pointing towards the ref and saying something. Yellow was probably deserved for that but the 2nd was a bit harsh. I didn't know sarcastic clapping was a bookable offence.

I think the 2nd booking was well deserved, it is ultimately dissent.

It does highlight inconsistency though because it came about 5 minutes after Cadden had been right in the linesmans face for not flagging for a foul (which it should have been), shouted at Beaton then going back for a 2nd go at the linesman. He wasn't booked.

I'll take they decisions all day when they are in our favour but no wonder managers, players and fans get frustrated.

Hits McCart's elbow, but his other arm's out-stretched, Beaton perhaps sees the right arm sticking out and a ball bouncing off McCart, assumes it's hit the right arm, and awards the penalty.

Harsh, but given that we probably could have had two in the 1st Half, let's just say that these things even themselves out.

The penalty which we got happened right in front of me, his arms were up but in front of his body, it was a close range shot which would have hit his chest if his arm wasn’t there. With the penalty rule as it is now, it’s so hard for players to know what to do with their arms.

On the whole, Beaton managed to upset both sets of fans, so it’s probably a good day at the office in his eyes.

He should have let the ball hit his body then and got his arm out of the way. He knew exactly what he was doing and the ref got it spot on.

You could well be right. Here is recent clarification of the laws around handball ..

Following this clarification, it is a handball offence if a player:

deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball;
touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised; or
scores in the opponents’ goal:
directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper; or
immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental.
Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.”

One of the most baffling refereeing performances for some time

Seemed totally oblivious to what was going on half the time and later on allowed the players (mostly Hibs) to referee the game for him after originally missing incidents and thenn reacting to protests / shouts

It wasn't a penalty looking back on slow-mo replays but I can see why it was given in real time.

We've had these handball rules go against us as well and the media never kicked up a fuss then. The one against McGinn v Celtic and the one against Porteous v Killie and he Huns at home when we should have had a pen.

SerenityGreen

I think it is the way things are nowadays, any handball contact is going to be claimed by players and any handball contact in the box runs the risk of a pen no matter if arms are by side or in front of body. Thing is, if Boyles shot didn't hit McCarts arm and therefore it hits his body, whose to say the shot might not be deflected on it's way goalward.
I didn't comment on Allen's one earlier for some reason but I think that is one Beaton did get wrong. Anywhere else on pitch it's a foul. At least for obstruction.

Obstruction is almost never given these days and if it was, it would be an indirect free kick in the box rather than a penalty.

I do think that one was a good claim though, not for obstruction but as I remember it the defender stood on his foot.

[QUOTE=nonshinyfinish;6707207]Obstruction is almost never given these days and if it was, it would be an indirect free kick in the box rather than a penalty.

Ye agree, as soon as I typed I thought I do not recall any instances of obstruction being given nowadays. And, I am aware it is an indirect free kick. either way I do think it was a foul.

My son pointed out to me that Beaton moved in a square between the 18 yard lines never going near the touchlines
If he had got closer to dome of the incidents perhaps his decisions might have been different.
I know that referees run a diagonal when the game is going on but he as said never seemed to move out of that area which suggests lazy refereeing.
Perhaps the referee supervisor will have put these comments to the Higher ups but as nothing is ever done about Clancy,Dallas and I don't think anything will happen
