View Full Version : I'm totally confused about Covid travel requirements

I'm hoping to take my wife and in-laws to Paris before the end of the year, but I can't work out what the current rules are for testing etc.

We're all double vaxxed so I don't think we need to get tested going, but I'm not sure of the requirements on our return.

Has anyone got a handle on this?

You won’t need to get tested if you’re double vaxxed, that’s right. Your NHS QR codes will be sufficient to take trains and get into a football match or a concert. Not sure about under 18s, I have a feeling they’ll need a lateral flow test, i still need to find this out.

Some discussion about this on the last 2/3 pages of the Covid thread.

As it stands whilst away you’ll need to do a PCR test within 3 days of return flight. Then a PCR on day 2 of being home, at a cost of £68 per person.

I’m off to Copenhagen for a long weekend for the Christmas markets…bit of a pain having to test when away for such a short time.

From reading online it looks like the expectation is we’ll go the same way as England sooner or later, hoping it’s before December.

EDIT: I’ve assumed you’re flying in and out of Scotland. These are the requirements for re-entry, they caught me out when booking as I only looked at Denmark, double vaxxed no quarantine or testing.

Remember you can use private PCR providers now, some of whom are a lot cheaper than £68. I’m using Expert Medicals for £28 on my current trip, for example.

For your return test it doesn’t have to be a PCR, you can do a lateral flow test as long as it meets specified criteria (I used c19testing recently). Still a PCR for day 2 return in Scotland at moment.

The lateral flow test can be done at the airport before you depart if the airport has those facilities,is that right?

So if you’re now going to say Spain or Italy or somewhere that was green/amber it’s a PCR 2 days after getting home as of 4/10 and nothing else? So your worst case scenario is having to isolate when you’re home?

Says Scotland will align with England's post arrival testing so just a lateral flow.

Do you pay for a lateral flow test

Just now you need to initially, think they are around £20

Not sure I agree with the fella from AGS Airports when he says "By ensuring Scotland has parity with the rest of the UK, this decision is one that will deliver much-needed consumer confidence for our passengers to start travelling again."

Can't say I'm filled with confidence to get on a plane with 200 other folk who haven't taken a test before departing. On current prevalence rates of 1 in 45 you can expect 4 folk to have Covid on average, don't much fancy sitting beside them for 4 hours on a plane.

We come back on the 3rd so just miss out 😭 as we booked with TUI though it was only £20pp for the pre departure test and the day 2 test. Pretty good price, much more reasonable than £100pp I was budgeting for!

Sensible from the Scottish Government, they are aligning our travel rules to be the same as the UK Government's going forward. In their statement they also say "lastly, the importance of guarding against new variants entering the country can’t be ignored. We will therefore be considering, with Public Health Scotland, the implementation of additional public health surveillance around international travel. We would intend this to be at no cost to travellers"

Sounds like everyone is a winner to me, no more rip-off PCR tests (where only a small percentage of which were actually processed for sequencing anyway), and the government still promising to keep a firm eye on any variants of concern that may come in from abroad

Good news all round, especially for folk like me who have a partner living abroad right now

We come back from Spain on 1/10 so just miss out as well.

£20 is good, our hotel charging 55 euros!! Pharmacy up the road is cheaper at 35 so will go with that
