I can only remember one. First half where Boyce almost dispossessed him about 30 yards out. Other than that he was brilliant and one of our better players.

Was given plenty of tests today and passed all the important ones with flying colours.

He was often an influential ball player too, some of his forward passes were of the standard expected from midfielders. Easier said than done, particularly at Tynecastle.

He was great and had the same amount of mad moments that Paul Hanlon did.

I’d expect every one of them to have the odd moment of madness in these modern day derby games.

I thought he played well. As did Hanlon and McGinn. Doig struggled a bit but wa still far from poor.

Porto tripping over the ball then missing the ball when he tried to recover was a heart in mouth moment though. He actually recovered well in the end and that's all that matters.

Almost got caught with Boyce and had one moment in the first half when he was too busy concentrating on GMS rather than clearing the ball.

That’s his only two mistakes of the game.

Brilliant after that both defensively and on the ball. It doesn’t always come
off but he takes responsibility and never hides.

I was actually going to start a thread tonight about our defensive performance. If that was St Johnstone people would be raving about how solid we were and how our back 3 never gave them a sniff.

It’s a little reminder I feel that our back 3 are good and not as easily replaceable as some may think.

I think the intensity of games at Tynecastle, Ibrox and the likes really help Porto.

It’s games at home to Killie, Livi etc that seem to produce a bit of slackness in his game.

He’s definitely back on track in terms of his development as a CD.

Good in the air, strong in the challenge and superb with the ball at his feet. His passing out of defence is a huge plus point, confident and like any good player, always available and wanting to be on the ball.

Thought Hibs looked really solid at the back today just giving away 1 really clear goal-scoring chance to GMS which produced that brilliant save from Macey.

After that, Hearts never looked like scoring and we dealt really well with corners and cross balls which has been a problem of late. Credit to all the defence - particularly Hanlon and Porteous

The debate on Porteous is a bit polarised though and I'm not sure how beneficial it is when people jump on others for calling out his mistakes.

He's a local boy, a Hibs supporter and come through the ranks and everyone wants him to do well but if he's going to progress beyond Hibs (and he has the attributes) then he needs to mature and improve his decision-making. There were still signs of that rashness today (and against Livingston) and these would be punished in a better league. While I wouldn't want to take away his spirit I actually wonder if a move might be better for his own development where he's not playing for his home town team, he's got tougher competition and he needs to knuckle down and impress everyone.

At Hibs he's first choice and unlikely to be dropped and can, therefore, get away with those mistakes and play up to the crowd with some adventurous football. I'm not sure that is good for his long-term development though.

If you want to play football at the back, you need to take the odd risk or so, or there’s no point in having players like Ryan in our team
Was a rock at the back, and started a lot of attacks. Maybe once in a while needs to find row Z with his clearances

To move on he needs his decsion making to the be a lot better. Still a great prospect. He'll be playing in the English championship this time next year IMO. He wont play any higher

Watching a different player from me, he was the best defender by a mile today and that’s saying something as Hanlon was very good. A clanger is when you gift a simple chance to the opposition ( Mings for Villa yesterday springs to mind) Ryan’s passing, tackling, heading, interceptions, clearances and general leadership were top class. If you are looking for a centre half who doesn’t make mistakes you will have a long wait.

Totally agree. He has finally kicked on and is in danger of reaching his potential. I say “danger” because, if he does, we will lose him instead of having a new captain on the park.

Totally agree Billy. Plays with a look on his face that dares opponents to try and get the better of him. Few do. Seems to be the key to playing out from the back and is very confident in doing it. Sometimes, I am not quite so confident, but I don't see him every week. Hanlon seems to have his back and I think that gives the boy the confidence to move forward and pick a pass (or blooter it into nowhere sometimes). Also agree about putting it in row Z when necessary. Even the best have to decide when it needs doing.

Porto is a fantastic footballer, though like all he does make the odd mistake. However, I've seen enough mistakes at the Euros or in the EPL to know that all players will make them. I feel he's in a good place at the moment, with guys like Hanlon & McGregor to offer support. If he keeps learning, he's going all the way to the top.

Started the season very well, as he did last season.

Hopefully he keeps it up and gets rid of the mistakes we saw last season

His distribution is at times off but overall I would say it’s very good and is a main part of many of our attacks, he pings it wide or slips it into a midfielder in space which most defenders wouldn’t try.

They only thing I would say annoys me is the type of pass, there’s times he tries to fizz it in too much and it bounces right in front of our player leaving a very difficult touch and it gives the opposition the chance to nick it.
