Any others make the trip to Athens in advance and stay in Aegina? It was heaving with Hibbies up to a week before. I think we had beaten Motherwell away (?) on the Saturday and it seems mad to think now, how long it took to get the result and updates that day, poolside and off our nuts.
The events a few days later was news that came much quicker as we were all getting ready for the trip across to Piraeus. Disbelief.
Most Hibbies used their ferry tickets on the day regardless (the Greeks really never cared too much about the atrocities it was clear). The scenes on and around the Acropolis on what would have been the day of the game were inspiring with Hibs colours everywhere and people still trying to take in what had happened in New York just a day before.
If I recall correctly Man United played at Panathanaikos the night previous then UEFA shut it all down.
Great little place mind you and that’s a week that will stick with me forever. Like your folks told you about JFK you don’t forget where you were or what you were doing.

Hired motorbikes and buzzed about the island, couple of mammoth bevvy sessions and I've still got a huge Greek flag from where I climbed up a flagpole in the town square and burned the rope with a cigar to swipe it [emoji16]
Met a couple of hibbys from Dunfermline, albeit only briefly.

I was there. Headed to Athens for a couple of days after the game was cancelled. A trip that lives long in the memory, as does the return a week or so later.

Stayed in Athens on the 12th and the Aegina for 3 nights and back to Athens for 3 nights.
I remember being in a boozer near the Olympion that was rammed with Hibs fans the night we got there.
We had no accomodation booked so next day went to Piraeus and jumped on a flying Dolphin to Aegina.

Two hibbys from Dunfermline eh? That’ll be me and my son[emoji41]We were staying in a hotel at the back of the bit that was like a town square, I think it was a boozer near there we were speaking. All a bit of blur as I was very very drunk and it only gets foggier with the years. :greengrin

12 of us stayed in Zante for a week, sacked the internal flights to Athens after the game was called off.
