Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. Any update on how the guys getting on with his injury? Sure I read somewhere he's pretty close to returning for us? I think he could be a very important player once fully fit!.... Id happily have him slot in as our attacking right back, personally..

He’s been back in full training for a couple of weeks and will be in the squad for Sunday.

Good news, could be a valuable player this season.

EDIT: I think he could play right back too… not a defensive player by nature but quick so could make good recoveries. Would need structure and good game management tho so that both full backs don’t always bomb on at the same time.

Cadden will be like adding a new starting player once up to speed.

Newell and Hanlon hopefully returning at the weekend.

Hallberg must be close to returning to training as well leaving Doidge and Mackie as the remaining injuries.

Do we have any recent information about Mackies injury and return date. Poor guy has been out for almost 10 months now.

I think he can do a job in a cental midfield 3 also. Has the attributes and believe he played there on occasion at Motherwell.

Seems Hanlon and Newell are both definitely available, Hanlon "likely" to play and Newell "pushing" to play.

Cadden is described as being "on the cusp of returning to the first-team squad" which, combined with having been out for longer, suggests the bench if anything.

Sounds good. Could do with both being back

We could, but should McGregor be dropped Jim?

It is probably the game you want him to play in to be honest given the shelling which will likely happen from punts and long throws. Certainly a decision to make however would be surprised if Hanlon didn't start if fit.

I think so. Think we’ve missed Hanlon. If we were going for a back 3 I wouldn’t mind seeing Hanlon McGregor Porteous.

Rate Cadden very highly. It was a huge blow missing him for the league run in and the cup final. He'll be one of the first names on the team sheet when available. Very good player. Hopefully he's in the match day squad on Sunday.

Yes, we should play our strongest XI possible.

And Nathan Wood has just captained the English U20 team to a 6-1 victory so while a derby would be a risk he must be on the bench at least.

Injuries are nuts at the minute, Boyle, Doidge, Murphy, Hanlon, Cadden, Newell. That's 6 proper 1st team players either out or doubtful for Sunday.

You could strongly argue that all of them would be in our top 11.

Only Doidge is actually out right now.

I doubt Murphy will be near the first team for a few more weeks at least.

Who is Cadden replacing if he’s a first name on the team sheet?

Not our new international right back 😁

Is a good question as we're strong all over the park but I reckon he'll soon become a regular starter. Think we'll see him replace McGinn at right back. He's can play a number of positions though.

Cannot see that at all. Has Cadden ever played RB in a 4? Hope he comes back stronger as Magennis has done but he didn't really shown anything last season.

Thought he did well in a couple of his earlier games at right wing back looked strong and got forward well.

Yeah I do recall a decent enough performance at wing back. I just don't see him as a defender.

I’d be wary of starting him on Sunday unless he’s 100% needed. The last thing we need is him breaking down again.

Got no chance of starting Sunday.

Also find it quite strange so many people have concerns about him playing right back he can play there standing on his head as a fullback or a wingback

Played there several times in america supposedly.

If you look at the current balance of our squad, Ross must definitely see him as an option for right back in our back 4.

No one else can play their except mcginn and we already have an abundance of options for out wide and central midfield.

His main position in the new system this season will almost definitely be right back imo.

Loan to Oxford United
Cadden made his Oxford debut in a 1–1 draw at Sunderland on the opening day of the 2019–20 season.[14] During Cadden's loan spell, he made 21 appearances for Oxford and was widely considered one of the best right backs in EFL League One.[15] Oxford manager Karl Robinson looked to make the loan permanent, but had its advances rejected by the Crew.[16]

Return to Columbus

Cadden started the 2020 season as depth at both the wing and wing-back positions, but was widely considered the successor to 33-year-old Ghanaian Harrison Afful.[17] Cadden made his debut for the Crew against New York City FC in the first game of the season.[18] He came on in the 87th minute for fellow debutante Lucas Zelarayán.[18] In December 2020 he was part of the squad that won the MLS Cup. In January, it was reported that Cadden would likely leave the club in a bid to gain more playing time; it was noted that his transition to America was made difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic.[19] Cadden was linked with a return to Great Britain with Hibernian, Aberdeen, and Oxford United.[20]

Cheers. Just didn't look anything like a RB to me, maybe I'm totally wrong.
