Now that I have secured my ticket & can't wait till next Sunday, I was wondering what time does the Roseburn usually open. I have been in once before the derby & I'm sure that was at about 9am, does anyone know if it will still open as early next weekend?

Not til 11.00 on a Sunday I think.

Wonder how it’ll work?

With social distancing having been binned do we expect it to look like The Roseburn of old?

It's not even worth trying to go to the pub that opens an hour before kick off.

Why would people bother ..30 mins in a pub and then turning up at best just on kick off …..

I was in last night - sitting at the bar, and ok to stand too. Not sure if they've lowered the capacity, but otherwise as normal as any pub I've been in recently! As others have said though, hardly time for a pint with the 12.00 ko.

Platform 5 is open early, not 100% sure if they serve alcohol before 11 on a Sun though, but I'm fairly sure I've been in pre-early Sun KO before & had a drink.

It seems many places in Edinburgh that did serve alcohol at 9am onwards on a Sunday pre pandemic have changed their stance. Our usual pre Derby haunt is now 11am onwards.

Has there been a change in Sunday licencing in Edinburgh?

Gonna go to Roseburn bar to watch game as haven’t got a ticket done it before usually good atmosphere in there with the early kick off no point trying to get a pint if I had a ticket would just head to PBS early doors to make sure I got in safely wouldn’t leave it too near kickoff as will be a nightmare trying to get in it’s a ****hole

Early Sunday kick-off at Tynecastle is all-round c**p. Statistically I have no idea if there's anything in it but I always feel it favours Hearts. Gorgie is such a depressing part of town that (as Morrissey says) every day is like Sunday. They're used to it whereas the Hibees from sunny Leith get dragged down by the air of gloomy sobriety.

Is there anywhere actually open early Sunday these days?

Well, if you're of a suitably spiritualistic persuasion and you're at a loose end on Sunday morning, you could always drop by the church service of your preferred denomination and put in a quick request to <insert suitable deity here> to guide the Hibernian back line into the path of all the most dangerous incoming balls. I reckon the other end with Nisbet and Boyle can probably take care of itself.

I'd do it meself, but as a lifelong heathen, begging whichever God I've hitherto never believed in for divine intervention for an SPFL league fixture might be getting my relationship with His or Her Almighty Worshipfulness off to a bad start...

Great. Thanks. Helpful.
I was in my church last week and prayed for an ‘ignore button’ on .net and hey-Ho - its here!

Thank goodness, it means I can click away the informed non-sarcastic replies like yours.

Brilliant. We’ve got the irrelevant replies to a simple question, throw in some puns, a flag debate and maybe something about loyalty points and it’ll be a .net classic.

Haha, brilliant. “Trudging slowly over wet piazza stones ..”

Kettled by jobs worth stewards through inadequately lit and insufficient turnstiles. Then faced with an iron stairway that’s a death trap when wet. Emerging into a tin stand where the seats are designed for primary school sized attendees and a numbering system that is impossible to understand.

Think you'll toil anywhere on a Sunday in Edinburgh. Maybe a hotel bar will be open, possibly Dianes pool hall as well, that was always an early riser.

My advice is if you're really desperate for a drink before the game just buy half a dozen cans the day before and drink them before you go in. Sit in roseburn park or something. :dunno:

Diane’s was always a good derby haunt - early opening every day, mixture of Hibs/Hearts/hardy local regulars, but sadly closed about 4 years ago.

Any real desperados that need a few pints before the game next week, both the snooker clubs on Slateford Road open early, Lorcano at 9 and Shandon at 10.

Each club will be busy with that lot in there too

To the OP, I wouldn’t be hanging about trying to get into Tynie near kick off. It takes ages to get in, as we funnel through a narrow area. You stand in a long queue
Forget the pint and get in sharp

Think only social clubs and hotels can serve drink before 11am on a Sunday.

If its dry just grab cans and stand outside and opposite the Roseburn bar, usually plenty doing that. I'll be in the que for the stadium at half 11. Take a can for the que aswell as usually takes 15-20 minutes to get through.

Wouldn't advise standing in the queue for the ground with cans. Ready made excuse for the police or stewards to refuse you entry.

Stay up all night on the cyril and top up with a few cans at whatever house you ended up at the previous night is the preferred option I think.

1. Derby nerves
2. Some people like to make those games an occasion and hook up with friends en masse

Murrayfield hasn't been particularly accommodating for Hibs fans recently. The 2-0 derby there recently (not that recent but recent when you consider we took a year off) they didn't open early. I know a few folk who had to make a mad dash to join the queue at the Roseburn.

We’ve always used the Hampton. A bit more relaxed than the chaos in tne Murrayfield.

Edit - looks like they open at 11 as well now.

If it’s the same family that used to run it years ago then they’re only interested in when the Rugby is on.
