The next interview/conference from Ross will be an interesting listen.

Know there is a lot of speculation on other hibs.net threads regarding what happened late at East Mains last night. Ross is the team manager and in a lot of ways separate from Mathie and the other recruitment guys. The structure created by Dempster and continued by Gordon means that the team manager is not in full control of recruitment.

Ross stated clearly a couple of weeks ago that a move for Doig was imminent, he even removed Doig from the squad against Ross County. Ross also stated the need for a new striker with Doidge out injured, a centre half and right back. All the recruitment team provided was a 19 year old centre half with no experience of the game up here. I'm not forgetting about a back up goalie and Tait from Raith who will be in the development team or loaned back.

We now have Allan & Wright in the squad who were basically shown the door as well.

Ross has not been given what he needed in this transfer window and most of the posts on hibs.net say the same.

Will be an intriguing build up to the derby game once the international fixtures are over.

He will just say he has enough in the squad and trusts the group he has.

He got a good forward after Doidge was injured. He got a centre half that is very highly rated. He’s had none of his next players sold from under his feet, he’s been backed like no Hibs manager since McLeish. He’ll be fine.

Back to reality. It’s a cruel, unfair, imperfect world. And unfortunately neither Hibs or Ross are immune. Ross has been around the block and is a realist. In as much as managers plan, it’s about how they adapt given the constraints and that’s they are paid to do.

He will, but he won't be happy with the way the transfer window ended. We desperately needed a striker in and reliable back up at CB and RB and failed. Whether that's down to a failure of the recruitment team or just bad luck, who knows.

Barring signing out of contract players/journeymen, we need to get lucky and avoid further injuries/suspensions to positions we don't have cover in.

He wanted a striker in addition to Doidge, we’ve only got one to replace. I think he’ll be disappointed with that. He even spoke about wanting something else attacking wise after the game on Saturday.

As far as I'm aware nothing overly dramatic last night. We had an offer for McGrath accepted from St Mirren but didn't get it sorted and submitted in time.

As a whole I'm sure Ross will be happy with a lot of what folk have already pointed out. Kept the main players, signed Mueller and tied Boyle down further. Doyle-Hayes looks brilliant as well and we have a number one in Macey.

But to come away with only Wood's (definitely needed) , a third choice keeper and Tait on deadline day is a huge disappointment.

Ross was asking for attacking reinforcement ages ago, prior to Doidge being injured so Scott doesn't cover that.

I don't think he'll be angry at the transfer window as a whole, but I definitely think he'll feel he should have been backed more after last season.

He’s a player short.

It’s enough to be disappointed about, arguably to feel a bit let down about, it’s nothing to chuck the toys out the pram about.

Until Nisbet gets injured or loses form, he’s probably still got enough to get by.

I was surprised that we didn’t get another forward in, but the bottom line is that we signed three players yesterday, and just missed out on a fourth. JR obviously sanctioned all of them.

The keeper and CH we knew about, but none of us had heard a peep about Tait or McGrath. The former seems to be a long term project and the latter, an opportunistic attempt after another move for JM fell through.

All of that suggests to me very strongly that we did look to get another forward in, but the right player either didn’t become available, or wasn’t available at what we considered to be good value.

The budget was clearly there, and we decided to spend some (or all remaining) on other areas. Don’t see any way that Jack was adamant that he wanted a striker, but the recruitment team kept putting other positions to him.

Well, join the club, lots of us don't get what we want in business and you just have get on with it.

Personally, i think we've are doing ok, and would rather have our squad than the shxte across the city.

But no doubt about it somebody got it wrong.

An alternative take on it is that we expected to lose at least two of Porteous, Doig, Boyle and Nisbet this window, yet have not only kept all four but one of them has signed an extension.

Yes absolutely.

It seems some fans wanted us to sell our most valuable players. Delighted we’ve kept the group together.

Doidge’s injury is a real blow… otherwise this transfer window would be an unqualified success.

We will just need to find a different way to win games until he’s back.

Can't remember the last time i took any manager interview as gospel. Only thing i really take from it is injury updates. The rest is just a media chore that needs the right answers. That isn't a dig at Ross, every manager will be the same.

You stop that Matty. That’s not right we have had the worst transfer window ever, have the worst manager ever, the worst squad ever, worst owner ever and the worst big screens ever. The world will end at 2pm next Sunday we are doomed I tell you doomed!

Totally agree. Every manager will want more. That's just the nature of the beast. If Ross was completely happy i'd be worried. He'll want to continue improving us as he has been. The reality of it though is that he's been superbly backed by the club. Not only in transfers but in retaining his best players. Deep down Ross will be delighted. Night and day compared to his experience at Sunderland where he was shafted in the transfer market.

He will be more than happy. Immas disappointed as anyone else we never signed a back up striker but come on we kept all our top players, Boyle on an extension with possibly Nisbet to follow and signed another huge Scottish prospect on a long term deal- JR will be more than happy with that imo

I heard Leigh Griffiths stuck the nut on Fenlon and Billy Brown had to pull him off before Leigh got sent home

The idea that Allan and Wright will be upset is just rubbish. I mean, Tam mcmannus is saying it in the daily record, what more proof do you need that it's slavers.

They both agreed to the move. They weren't showed anything. A deal was negotiated and didn't happen. That's all.

Same as the rubbish about Nisbet being unhappy, Porteous being unhappy etc in January. Absolute rubbish.

It’s the something every player says in interviews and articles, that it’s a great group and everyone is happy in the squad. They’re all pro footballers and they know what comes with that, including transfers. I think people look for things that just aren’t there. Even the players who don’t play much seem happy to be here and that’s rare in most squads, they must feel they or their career is benefitting from being at Hibs.
