View Full Version : Which Club Would You Like To See Go Bust?

Inspired by the antics of Real Madrid relating to Mbappe as discussed on the transfer thread, which of the chronically financially incontinent clubs would you most like to see go bust and why? Try to avoid picking our Gorgie neighbours, that's just too easy.

I wouldn't really care how they disappeared from my life but I'd happily see Hearts cease to exist. I've never bought into the 'but we'd miss the derby' argument. Manchester City ...or Chelsea... or PSG
...or any of the other recently dominant clubs being backed by Russian Oligarchs or Arab Sheiks.
You can add Real Madrid and Barcelona to that list. Two clubs that are incredibly successful in Europe, despite being in an obscene level of debt that should bar them under the FFP rules.
p.s I'd have no issue with these clubs then re-appearing in a form that didn't include masses of dodgy money from abroad or ridiculous levels of over-spending.

How much stronger a club would Hibs be if Hearts disappeared tomorrow? It would probably be close to a generation before support showed a significant increase and even then, to what extent would Hibs benefit financially? I can only get to the odd midweek game so am not an ST holder and even at the mo it's not so easy getting "pay-as-you-go" tickets for games, even though when you get there there are plenty empty seats. Obviously we would benefit to some extent, but I'm not convinced we'd be selling out League Cup games vs Alloa. Or would you see us moving to a new 40,000 soul-less stadium outside the City Bypass? Not for me ta.

After reading the transfer thread I am genuinely surprised no one has said Hibs.
Quite a few support Hibs in a Celtic way, away that was condemned not so long ago.
Just buy another teams player, condemn the team if we don’t .
Bunch of fannies don’t know how to support a club.

The cororally is that there is nothing worse than losing to a team you despise with the whole of your being.
Maybe football would be more enjoyable if there was less hatred so strongly immersed in the game. Maybe Hibs should take the lead and become Scotland's loving club with the motto "Love Thy Opposition". Then when you lose to them you'll be less inclined to be upset, maybe even be pleased for them that they beat Hibs. Go on, make a start and make this the day that you hug a Jambo just for being a Jambo.

I don't enjoy derbys. Anyone who does is mental in my opinion. Only enjoy them when we win but have to endure 90 mins of stress and anxiety first. If we lose it annoys me until the next derby. Nah, get Hearts in the bin.

Why would anyone want to see a team ,go bust ?When teams knowingly overspend over a long period, accumulating debts they they have no hope of ever repaying (running to 10s or 100s of millions of pounds), I don't necessarily want to see them survive.

The fact is that Hearts and Rangers have both effectively gone bust but are still here. Celtic came within 24 hours of being wound up before the Fergus McCann takeover. Airdrieonians were also liquidated but remain in the SPFL, admittedly as the ghosts of Clydebank. I suspect that Leeds United did go bust under Ken Bates but retained their league position.
I hate to spoil it for some on here but Chelsea and Manchester City are not going bust. Neither club has any appreciable debts. Both are profitable, pandemic aside, and are financially well run and live with their means. The clubs with severe debts are Spurs, Barcelona, Man United, Juventus, and Inter. And I don’t expect any of them to go bust either.
Some of the comments here are a thinly veiled wish-list of teams that some do not like or are jealous of.

Lol. Chelsea and Man City don’t have appreciable debts because their owners have pumped in hundreds of millions. Neither club has lived anywhere near ‘within their means’. What if they want their money back?
For the avoidance of doubt, I’d love both of them to go under. Both are responsible for widening the divide between a rich elite and everyone else.

I have no hate in my heart for Kilmarnock, takes effort and to support the Killie when Ayrshire is host to buses populated by sectarian bampots heading to Ibrox and Parkhead every week ignoring the club on their doorstep that could do with their support. Same for anyone in the west who supports Motherwell, St Mirren, Morton or any of the once traditional west coast town teams who get squashed by the ugly sisters taking their fans.
