Anyone got an air fryer? Favourite thing to cook in the air fryer?

I know this isn’t going to be very rock and roll ...
I have.

I like my air fryer chips (chilli pepper ones).

Also excellent for heating up leftover pizza etc

Check out “fabulessly frugal” on YouTube for recipes and ideas.

Almost the same; Potato wedges. Fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Immense.

Iv got 1 since I'm not allowed a real deep fryer . My opinion is it a pile of junk . It's just a miniature oven .

I tried chips in mine as a lot of people seem to rate them highly but they were pretty mediocre. I normally do chips in a deep chip pan and the air fryer doesn't come close, taste wise. On top of this you can only do about 20 at a time which is ok if you fancy a sandwich but useless for a meal. I'd like to get a recipe for wedges or such as there is always the possibility that I made a right pigs ear of it.

Agreed, the best chip is a deep fried chip .. but the whole point of the air fryer is it’s a healthier way of cooking.

I also suspect that some air fryers will be better than others.

I get decent chips from mine though, and can experiment a bit with pepper, spices etc.
My technique for chips in the air fryer is high temp, well cooked, and regular shaking during the process. I also soak the chips in salted water for 30 mins to get the starch out, wash thoroughly a couple of times and then properly dry before coating in sunflower oil.

Depends what type of air fryer. I've got a cheap thing from Lidl to see if I liked it. It was under £30 and I think I'll upgrade sometime in the not to distant future.

I've found recommend timings are useless.

Make sure all the parts that get dirty are dishwasher proof. I doubt I'd want to be cleaning it by hand.

Stay clear of Facebook air fryer pages. Some people shouldn't be trusted with electricity!

My favourites

Frozen skinny chips.
Chicken thighs, wings and things.
Baked potatoes.
Home made doner kebab.
Corn on the cob.
Sausages.

Stuff with coatings don't work well, like scampi.

I had about 6 Tefal Actifry but they kept on breaking so I gave up on them.

Surely this thread can’t turn political and become a slagging match?

I have a Swan Air Fryer. Love it so far. Best thing so far is just a simple baked potato. 45 minutes and it’s perfectly crispy on the outside, buttery smooth on the inside.

Wouldn't be without my air fryer now. Sausages and chicken thighs are my favourite. Best to check how the tray comes to bits as some of them are not that easy to clean.

Anyone who makes chips but can’t be bothered cutting the Tatties themselves, the Albert bassat chips/fries you get in the fridge in Sainsbury’s and no doubt other supermarkets are amazing in the air fryer.

If you really want to level up then get yourself some chicken salt for them and put it on before you cook.

Got an air fryer a while back and it’s immense, chips/wedges/chicken/sausages are all great in it. Mine has a rotisserie function for doing whole chicken and it’s incredible.
Great for heating up leftovers as well - pizza especially works well.

Think mine is Tefal Actifry - works fine for what we use it for, which isn't much! There was some discussion on these on the Cooking Tips thread on the HG a few weeks ago, post 811 onwards, with a few references to Ninjas

Baby potato's skin on, microwave for about 7 mins. Crush them slightly with a fork, just enough to open the top. Spray with frylight and put in the airfryer for 15 mins. Come out like roasties. Great if your calorie counting but just good anyway.

I have the Cosori 5.5L XL. Did some research before buying and very favourable reviews. Have to say I’ve been very pleased with it.

Chilli chips I made tonight were excellent.
Peel and cut potatoes, soak in water for 30mins to try and remove excess starch, rinse under cold water and then dry thoroughly, stick in a bowl, coat in sunflower oil turning chips to ensure even coating, mix together salt pepper and paprika in a small tub and lightly sprinkle over chips while turning in bowl to get evenly coated, throw in air fryer for 30mins at 195C, remove and shake every 7-8 mins .. perfect, tasty chilli chips.

I bought a spray bottle similar to this for spraying the sunflower oil onto things, works great for getting an even spread.

Ninja air fryer dual, two seperate baskets means two different meal at once. Can sync it so it cooks the same time as the other basket. Bit pricy but worth it.

One thing I've found with these fryers is that the smell of cooking is absolutely minimal compared to say grilling or frying on the hob.

That alone makes them worth buying.

Where do you get chicken salt? I've been looking for it but couldn't find it in a couple of the big supermarkets...?

We bought a new caravan back in 2018 that didn't have an oven, so we got the Philips XXL air fryer. Great piece of kit that we also use at home. Philips have an air fryer app that let's you share recipes with other owners.

Chicken salt is a staple in most Aussie food cupboards, I’ve never bothered to get myself some over here but definitely going to now!

On the subject of Aussie food B&M are selling Aussie Cadburys stuff, some amazing varieties!

I’m always wary of buying something that has more than 1 function probably the amount of awful tv/dvd/vhs combos I’ve went through in the past, Amazon reviews all seem great

I got one posted to me by my folks for christmas. My first thoughts as i looked at it lying on the step was “where am i gonna put that!”.

Anyway i’ve rearranged the kitchen, found a spot & only just started to get to grips with it (i was home for christmas).

It’s brilliant! Obviously i’ve made chips in it which came out crisp and fluffy. So did the tofu & ive also thrown in veggie burgers & sausages. ive roasted beets which worked out well in less time than my fan oven, ive baked banana bread & i’ve also dehumidified banana chips. I’ve still to use the grill but got some tender stem broccoli i’m gonna try today.

Really quick to clean, hardly any smells. I can see this taking over from my normal oven. Delighted with it (just bought an air fryer recipe book to get to grips properly with it.

ps never had a deep fat fryer previously

Which one did you get? Vegan though I am, I probably use the frying pan too often. My laddies have one and they use it all the time for their, ahem, meaty goodness. They like it.

I've tried broccoli a few times without much success. The stems are perfect but the flowery bits at the top become crispy ... or as Mrs Jackie says burnt! It's different! Or the opposite happens and it's almost crispy flowery bits and overly crunchy stems.

Ninja Health Grill & Fryer..Im plant based too. Normally do tofu in oven but this is way better. Also made falafel today which turned out great, crispy on outside fluffy in the middle. Gonna try tempura at the weekend. Only downside is i’m isolating and have run out of spray oil.

I fill it with sunflower oil, which I find is better for using in my air fryer.

Heres the recipe I used https://elavegan.com/air-fryer-falafel/

I just went at 200 for 20mins turning half way. As long as you soak the chickpeas for long enough they turn out great (first time I only soaked for half they time & they were a wee bit dry)
