Andy Murray just starting against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Not expecting too much here, if Murray wins a set he'll be doing well.

Dan Evans has just beaten Thiago Monteiro in 4 sets.

Murray is live on Amazon Prime for anyone who is interested.

Great hold from 0-30 from Murray 5-5 in the second. Murray is getting a bit worked up at times, his body language isn’t great, I don’t know why because he’s playing well.

Brilliant from Murray. He's hitting that backhand so sweetly. Also I'll never tire of seeing the backhand topspin lob which he did in the 2nd set tie break - a thing of absolute class.

Really hope he can keep this going.

Tsitsipas pulling out a Djokovic stunt

Yep, that's what it reminded me of. Feigning injury at crucial points of the game.

The 'toilet' break was ridiculous. Eight minutes?! The guy has previous for it, taking his whole kit bag into the toilets including his mobile phone. The suspicion is that he's texting his coach.

Murray was entitled to be raging. If you read his full quotes it's not sour grapes either. There's no self pity there, just a rational (if heated) criticism of the way the way his opponent was bending the rules to the max.

I like the US Open. Total contrast to Wimbledon. Always a racket going on, music at the breaks, folk running up and down the stairs getting food and drink. It's laid back.
It's a huge stadium too - at least the Ashe court is. More comfy too without some sweaty matron from the Home Counties pressed into your shoulder all the time trying to glimpse Cliff in the Royal Box or whatever.

I speak from bitter expereince!

Absolute donut I work beside took enormous pleasure in announcing today that GBs new tennis star isn’t actually British (his words) but Canadian and started comparing her to Rusedski and even Lennox Lewis. I didn’t hold back, pointing out she has been living in England since she was two years old and recognises the UK as her home. Also said I’d rather look at the positives of having an enormous talent represent GB than looking for something to hold against her. He softened his stance a little after that but blamed the press for going OTT for someone who wasn’t born here. Maybe they should put a little asterisk next to her name when reporting on her.

Think I might avoid cheering Justin Rose on in the Ryder Cup since he was born in South Africa

I don't think there's been a tennis player who has exploded on to the scene like this since Boris Becker won Wimbledon as a qualifier. Amazing stuff and a real shot in the arm for the women's game.

Jamie Murray into the men's doubles semis too (as is Joe Salisbury) so a good day for the Brits.

She seems to be the same every time, nerves, terrible start, then rolls off multiple sets in a row to steamroll her opponent.

Jamie Murray into the men's doubles final. Seeking his eighth slam title. Not bad going for a guy who's largely lived in his brother's shadow.

It's been said before but if it weren't for Andy's phenomenal achievements, Jamie would likely get more credit as a pretty remarkable British sportsman in his own right. For a pair of siblings to have enjoyed such successful sporting careers must be quite rare - and surely unique when it comes to Scottish tennis players!

I didn't see any of it due to the time it was on but Emma Raducanu has won again in straight sets to become the first British female to reach a Grand Slam final since Virginia Wade in 1977 and the first British woman to do it at the US Open since Wade in 1968.

She's also the first qualifier ever to reach a Grand Slam final and she's done it all without dropping a set!

What she's done so far is actually incredible.

She was playing an experienced 17th seed Maria Sakkari but by all accounts she blew her away. She will now play a fellow teenager in the final, 19 year old Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez after she had a stunning win of her own against the number 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka.

I'm not usually a massive viewer of women's tennis but I can't wait to see this on Saturday.

Q2: d. Bolkvadze 6-3, 7-5
Q3: d. Sherif 6-1, 6-4

19-year-old Leylah Fernandez will face the 18-year-old Emma Raducanu on Saturday for the title.

It will be the first all-teen final at the #USOpen since 1999, before either was born, when a 17-year-old Serena Williams beat an 18-year-old Martina Hingis.

Her speed and quality of return of serve was amazing. Her opponent in the semi had a high serve speed but she got most of them back. Seems to have a great temperament as well. Will be watching on Saturday.

Aye, what's great is it really spurs kids on to take the sport up. I know a few teens who play and they're really committed. Only downside is the families do spend a fair amount of cash. I'm not sure if the National Lottery provide grants for kids who's families can't spare that level of cash, I hope it does.

Australian Open confirms that unvaccinated players will not be eligible to play in the 2022 tournament.

LTA have said 80 of the top 100 players are vaccinated so as it stands 20 will be missing out.

Rules Djokovic out then? I read he 'does not wish to disclose' his vaccination status and he's previously spoken out against them.

Novax ruled out of this year's US Open:

As the only unvaccinated player in both events I'm unclear why he was allowed to play the French Open and Wimbledon TBH.

OK for Medvedev to play and likely win despite Russia's pulverising Ukraine.

Novak hugs and kisses everyone at Wimbledon and Paris with no apparent problem but USA bars him.

Rules are rules I guess. Maybe they should sort out their firearms problem first though. I'd say Covid is lower down the list of priorities at the moment.

America has the right to say the vaccine status needed for entry, the same as other nations are doing. Sports people shouldn't be treated differently.

Or maybe Novax should just get vaccinated like the rest of his peers.

I believe Medvedev should be allowed to play, I thought Wimbledon's ban this year was absurd and made even more so by the fact that a Russian born player won the women's title.

Djokovic probably doesn't pose much of a threat but the same rules apply to everyone and that's the way it should be. He seems to be at peace with the idea that he won't be allowed into the USA and is prepared to give up the possibility of winning a major for the sake of his beliefs.

I strongly disagree with those beliefs but that's fair enough in my book.

strange take on things. Afaik, medvedev hasn’t endorsed what Russia are doing, you think he should be a restricted from earning a living because of where he was born?

also, firearms have been an issue in America for a very long time, should they ignore all other issues until they resolve that?

Djokovic has very publicly made his position clear, and knows there will be some consequences with his choices around vaccination. Whether he hugs and kisses people with no problem at Wimbledon isn’t really the point, and by the same token, he organised a tournament during the pandemic which caused a number of people to contract covid.

The fact there was ‘no apparent problem’ is due to almost all of those people being vaccinated, not through any of ND’s actions, your stance is akin to saying that there’s no issue if someone causes an accident through drunk driving, because the folk in the other car weren’t badly injured as they had seatbelts on

And despite his supposedly heartfelt apology for that he then proceeded to swan around Europe while he had Covid:

Of course there remains significant doubt as to whether he actually had Covid at all:

The guy's a preening narcissist who can have no complaints at being banned from the US Open.
