Was looking to come up on the 16th of September till the 19th for the St Mirren game and the prices for these places are very expensive.
Why so high? Maybe it's obvious and there trying to make some money back. It just seems expensive for September compared to October.

I think most hotel chains have moved to dynamic booking systems similar to those used by budget airlines. The closer you get to the date of your stay, the more expensive it's likely to become. They'll cover their costs with a given number of reasonably priced rooms and once that's been covered the system will put the prices up to maximise profit. The system is also smart enough to detect sudden booking trends like an upsurge in bookings due to announcements of events like concerts, sporting events and festivals, if a certain amount of bookings are made in one location within a given time frame, then the system will again pump up the prices, even if the breakeven bookings have not been achieved.

I imagine their costs will be going up as well? They usually employ their fair share of EU workers?

How much are they? Try other chains, I got a brand new hotel in fountainbridge that was less per night than holiday inn express in Leith.

Usually stay at the waterfront at Newhaven or the camerontoll and both was asking for about £250 for 3 nights.

The prices look do be going down again and I will try out trivago. Looks like the St Johnstone game is a bit cheaper so maybe just go for that one.
