I feel sorry for Drey Wright. I know he’s not the best player we’ve got but when he came on as a sub yesterday his body language looked that of someone quite dejected.
I don’t think it helps some of the comments that come his way from the stands. Do we really need stuff about his weight? What sort of impression does this leave on him, his family if they’re watching it, team mates?
There’s a chance that he’ll move on. Until he does it would be good if we could back him while he’s on the pitch in a Hibs strip.
Here’s hoping he scores the winner at Tynie

I was happy enough when we signed him and if the manager keeps picking him he deserves the chance. I doubt we signed him because he was useless.

He was pretty poor and disappointing last season but I think he's done at least decently so far this season.

I’ve no doubt that Drey is trying his best when on the pitch but for whatever reason it’s just not worked out at Hibs. He’s looked well out of his depth pretty much on every appearance. I really hope we’re not reliant on him at any point during the derby.

There is an element of the support who always seem to need a target for abuse. At the moment it’s Drey, if he moves on they will shift their attention to some other poor sod.

Abusing our own players is moronic and counterproductive. As for Wright it would be best for all parties if he was moved on, he’s been a terrible signing, it’s just not happening for him.

He's nothing special but aside from a couple of poor passes, and an ill-judged tackle, immediately after he came on, I thought he was OK.
Why not just back the guy when he's in a Hibs jersey.

Came on at 1-0 to hold what we had and tighten up our midfield
Couple of early mistakes early on and he looked nervous won the ball back on one occasion and played the ball out to the right to a rousing cheer from the East
Looks as though there is more about him this season looks sharper and more focused
Did ok overall yesterday imho

He is a decent player but it didn't help that his 1st touch after coming on yesterday was poor but he settled down after that.
He is now permanently stuck in the margins with Allan so inevitably he will leave with him at the end of his contract in 9 months time.
Timing is everything and I don't think last seasons playing style suited him whereas this seasons would but his playing chance was at the start of last season .
The overweight thing is simply rubbish. He is doing the best he can when he gets a chance and seems a popular guy with his team mates so as ever he should have our support.

Said the exact same to the guys I go with.
He came on and immediately folk around us were laughing and saying how bad he is without even given the guy a chance in the game. So bad.

He needs to relax a little. Looks very tense. He played a few good passes when he eased up a bit.
I stress a little when he comes on but will support.

I had two morons (sorry no other words for it) behind me yesterday after they had finished laying into Macey at a livi corner in 2nd half - on came Drey Wright - so Macey got a break from their abuse and they literally sat and ripped Drey to shreds for about 10 mins. Great being back in a busy ER yesterday but I certainly didn't miss idiots like this during lockdown...they were even mimicking his accent - they clearly amused eachother but nobody else

Scott Allan got praise for setting up a goal with a sumptuous back heel yesterday.
Drey Wright did the same earlier in the season and it’s conveniently overlooked.

I didn’t, I gave my opinion on a message board. The thread is about the abuse he’s been getting at games from our own fans which is out of order, he plays for hibs and we should be supportive of him and every other player. Saying he’s been a terrible signing isn’t abusing him in any way, it’s just a fact.

Wrights was actually better as done at soeed
I think as he was originally brought in as one of our top signing targets ,a lot was expected of him
Fir whatever reason it just hasn’t happened fir him
But giving him abuse and expecting him to respond positively is counter productive

Looked extremely nervous when he came on which wasn't helped by the howls of abuse and laughter every time he even dared to make a pass that wasn't inch-perfect.
I don't get it. The guy's not a starter, is trying his best but people still need a scapegoat and someone to confidently proclaim this season's "worst Hibs player ever". It's pathetic. Get over yourselves.

Said it on the previously thread on him. He’s not long had twins and they were very early. A bit of humanity and understanding wouldn’t go a miss and yet when it comes to football seems to be a bit of a blind spot for some.
for just how much an impact abuse has on players mental well being look no further than out own Joe Tortolano. Shame on all those that abuse our players.

I thought he was fine yesterday when he came on. He made one error and the audible groans started. There was another occasion in which he did nothing wrong and there was another noticeable murmur of discontent. A guy a few rows in front of me thought he was hillarious by booing when Wright came on. Thankfully a sizeable number of people countered such moronic behaviour by getting right behind him when he made a couple of good crossfield passes.
If it doesn't happen for Wright at Hibs then it's not the fans fault but hounding the guy as soon as the opportunity presents itself isn't helping anyone. In our current squad the likes of Doidge, Magennis and Newell are proof that players can come good.

He's not abusing him? He is just stating his opinion on the signing, which is pretty hard to disagree with. I feel sorry for Wright, he doesn't exude any confidence, and I really want him to do well. But he looked out his depth yesterday when he came on.
I don't think Wright was ever brought in to be a starter, he's a decent squad player, if we have a squad of say 25 players, do we think they'll all be considered starting 11, we need cover in the squad. He had a tough 1st year with us and didn't look anything like good enough, recovering from a bad injury and having I think his wife had twins during lockdown has taken it's toll, Ross seems to trust him to come on with 15 or so minutes to see out a game, he sees him every day.

I called him one of the worse players I have seen at Hibs a number of weeks ago and I have to say I was probably over the top with trust comment so hold my hands up. I do however like most really want him to do well and show something more than he does for fans to get a bit believe back. For people to make out that he gets a raw deal etc is simply wrong, he has the responsibility to perform and to get fans on side as does every other player. I actually don’t think the criticism directed to him in games is that bad are people will grumble but I’ve seen players in the past getting booed when they are coming on, now that’s serious below the belt stuff. In simple terms, he’s not been good enough since he joined Hibs regardless of how it’s dressed up. He’s had some good moments and contributed well at times but it’s not enough over the time he’s been here. I suspect we could easily replace him for all I feel he offers, he seems a great lad but for both parties I think he needs to move on and play regularly somewhere.
As an aside, I think it’s been a bit crap for him that some people including myself thought we were getting a pacy wide player, I’ve not seen him get at a man yet and feel he seems to be suited coming inside more than a wide player.
Good luck to the guy and I’d be the first to be delighted if he turned it around but for me I don’t think it will happen.

Why would it? I don’t get how saying a player we’ve signed has been a terrible signing now constitutes as abuse.
Thought he done alright yesterday after the first five mins he was on but still wouldn’t be here nor there if he was moved on. It’s not abuse thinking a player isn’t good enough for us.

You’re quite correct. There’s a distinction between thinking someone’s crap and actually shouting it at them so my apologies to LB.

If you read any of my posts, you'll notice that I rarely criticise any of our players. I'm a pint half full type guy.
However, Drey Wright is a very poor player. I think he goes into hiding in games. He neither runs into space not tries to close down the opposition's space. A few good passes are mixed with some poor ones. He rarely does anything that excites me. He must try harder to be better.
On Saturday, I was really impressed by an 18 year old playing for Liverpool. Yes, I know quality will be different. But what impressed me was the players movement and willingness to be involved. Drey Wright is the polar opposite of that.
One thing that I'll add is that the only game that I've been really impressed by Drey Wright was the final league game against Celtic. He did much more work trying to be involved in the game and I thought was pretty effective. IMO he needs to do a lot more of this.

Works his socks off and helped us see out the game. Might not win us many games with his attacking play but he did a good enough job for us on Sat. Not the only one to give the ball away against livi, they're a very good side at breaking things down.

I'm not a huge fan of his but he's nowhere near being one of the worst players to ever play for us. I think the sentences I've quoted points to why the fans get on his back. He tends to do something stupid or sloppy soon after coming on before settling down. As people have it in their head that he's not that good, they then see the sloppy stuff almost immediately and it provides the confirmation bias needed to set their opinion of him as stone in their head. It doesn't matter if he does something decent after, it is the sloppy stuff that's remembered.

Eh!
Please read the rest of my post/posts which were positive posts urging fellow fans to cut him some slack on this and other threads
Yes he did make a couple of early clumsy errors that many posters alluded to
I even commented on another thread that on one occasion he even won the ball back and played a sweeping ball out to right drawing a huge cheer from the crowd
I will not be tarred with that brush as someone who slags off HIBS players
Of course I/we all want him to do well

OK
Take a chill pill :greengrin
As long as you remember while he might not be the most technically gifted player I have seen in 65 years supporting HIBS I want him to do well and be a success
He looks more focused, stronger and athletic this season
Maybe just needs to show a wee bit more self belief
Obviously JR rates him or he wouldn’t be anywhere near the first team
He did ok on Saturday
