Not the easiest way to find out the details of these games, however, if you have time to check the SFA Referee page under appointments, you will eventually find when and where the games are being played.

Not ideal, but might be worth a look in the future.

I think we have a good chance of winning the league this season with rangers and Celtic having b teams their under 18 teams will be very young. Place in euro youth league for the winners I think too.

thats how they did Europe last year. Too early to tell how this season might pan out though even allowing for a decent win yesterday. Should be in the mix though

This is a very very young team, I’m presuming Johnstone and a few others are away with Scotland

Hibs: Josh Blair; Gregor Fordyce, Jacob Blaney, Josh McCulloch, Oscar MacIntyre; Freddie Wylie (Ben Reilly, 87), Murray Aiken, Robbie Hamilton, Ethan Laidlaw (Rudi Molotnikov, 72), Jacob MacIntyre (Mack Weir, 45); Josh O’Connor (Malek Zaid, 87). Sub not used: Freddie Owens.

Why do the club not do more to advertise these games and give us a report on what happened. I offered to photograph them for free and got a nice reply from KP but the media team, who were the correct contacts, never even replied. I'm sure they could get someone to do a match report and use free photos to promote our youth teams. Might be a good idea getting them used to playing in front of a few fans too.

I want to see the club communicate about every team that plays for the badge and I think there would be good support for some of the younger players and certainly when they get over 16 and could conceivably be turning out for the first teams

Academy doing well with this group right now.

I suspect you’re joking given what’s being said elsewhere tonight but i do think this is where a lot of Hibs fans go wrong when judging the young teams.

The fact we won tonight or any of these games isn’t a gauge of us doing well, in fact, if we lost all our games at this level 5-0 then it could actually be better.

What we want is teams not doing well at youth level as the better players are being pushed ahead of their years. I know O’Connor and Laidalw are both very young so this is pushing it but to illustrate the point, if we got hammered tonight because they were both in the first team squad tonight then I’d suggest the youth teams were doing very well with this age group.

Winning at this level means almost nothing IMO.

We have a decent squad at u18 level. Improvements have been seen in the last few season. A lot of 16 and younger kids on the fringes. If we can’t promote the good stuff happening we don’t have much chance when there is negative news. Hopefully a few of this squad can continue to develop and make it to the first team.

that an odd comment, have you been on the pop?

This is a development league, it not vital to win every game but you want the games to do that, develop players but to say you want the team not to do well is rubbish. You want a mixture of players, more experienced ones who are getting ready for their next move and younger ones who want to get experience. Most CAS teams are playing a mixture of 15,16,17 yos.

O’Connor is an 04, I remember seeing him at Longniddry and he was nothing special, so I’d say being in our academy has brought him on a bit. Hopefully he’ll be getting set up for a loan next year but maybe he will be in a position to be on the first team fringes.

Getting hammered develops no one. The squad is transient, it was pretty solid last season and, at this point looking good for this, that’s development

From the match report in the EEN it looks like we had trialists in the starting 11 and 1 trialist on the bench.

Is Connor Young actually meant to be ahead of him? I know we have a good few young forwards.

Does anyone who watches the youth teams have views on the likes of Laidlaw, Young or O’Connor? Are they simply not physically ready for first team football or not ready ability wise? It seems, from the outside, indicative of our youth system failings of the last 10/15 years. We have a striker crisis and highly rated youngsters banging goals in for the youth teams, yet they’ve never been on the bench yet.

For comparison, this season in the league Dundee Utd have played a 16 year old and a 17 year old, St Mirren a 16 year old ( against us?) and Aberdeen gave Ramsay his debut the day after his 18th birthday.

I think Connor Young is a year younger, don’t know if he is ahead of O’Connor but I think O’Connor has scored the most goals, from what I’ve seen laidlaw is more highly rated as he is involved with Scotland youth teams and has the trained with different clubs down south

Connor Young was top scorer last season and is, I think, joint top this season. O'Connor, somewhat understandably gets more attention given the family connection. Add in Laidlaw and we have 3 outstanding forward prospects though I believe we have fine players all over the park.

Laidlaw was the striker, there was a keeper down there as well and was reported to have signed with Wolves. Don’t remember hearing about him for ages though.

The keeper is Murray Johnson, was reports saying Wolves agreed a deal but I don’t know if anything officially went through, think he is still with us

This was on the Hutchie site today.

As our U18s Prepare to host Hibs U18s in the Scottish Cup the following article might provide some food for thought 🤓📰:

Lots of players have made the journey from Hutchie to Hibs over the years and it led to a lot of football people thinking there was a connection between the two organisations.

Tommy Younger and Willie McFarlane were among the first to sign for Hibs from the club in the late 40s, Younger, the goalkeeper in the famous 5 team, went on to captain Liverpool and Scotland and in later life was the president of the SFA, McFarlane had a reputation as a hard tackling full-back also playing in the famous 5 team he went on to manage Hibs.

In the modern age, Danny Lennon,John Hughes, Gary Caldwell, Jason Cummings, Marc McNulty, Michael Renwick, Steven Tweed, Kevin Harper, John Collins, Kenny Miller, Leigh Griffiths, Alan Combe, Steve Whittaker, Colin Nish, Gary O'Connor ,Darren Dods, Ian Murray, Kevin Thomson, Danny Swanson, Sam Stanton, Michael Stewart, Eddie May, Derek Riordan and Paul Hanlon have all served them well, there are others and although the relationship is not as strong as it once was the odd player still makes that move across the city to Leith, the latest being 17 year old Malik Zaid who came to Scotland from war torn Libya 8 years ago and only moved to Hibs 2 months ago.

In 1996 for 18 months in last year of Alex Millers time and through Jocky Scotts tenure there was a firm connection between the 2 clubs it was during this time that the aforementioned Caldwell, O'Connor, Murray, Miller, Whittaker, Thomson, Riordan all established themselves with and signed for the Easter Road Side others were there too, including the present managers of the Hutchie senior side, Ryan Harding and Fraser Ogilve, the Hutchie sides were actually playing in the purple Hibs strips at this time but the this came abruptly to an end when Jim Duffy took over.

Only a few years later a lot of these players would grace the first team, surely in retrospect ending that tie up was a bad decision as no doubt a steady stream of the talent from Hutchie would have ended up at Hibs, notwithstanding the financial benefits as most of these players were sold on to bigger clubs.

However as the advent of pro youth took over in 2000 clubs like Hutchie were deemed irrelevant by those in the know in football, but the club, somehow keep managing to promote talent into the senior game and doing it their way, only last month Ali McCann was sold for £1.2m from St.Johnstone to Preston North End a kid from Edinburgh at Hutchie since 6 years old and taken on by Saints apparently unwanted by the Edinburgh clubs, there is no doubt that there is still talent outside the pro youth circus and that Hutchie as they have always done continue to manage Football youth Development better than most.
