View Full Version : Scott Brown and why he didn’t want to return to Hibs

Tom English is a prick but this is a decent interview I think.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58263119

In summary, he didn’t want to play for Hibs again because we might compare him unfavourably to the dynamic attacking midfielder who left 14 seasons ago.

Credit to Broony, he’s still got ambition and a desire to achieve more in the game. I wonder if he might make a future Hibs manager?

He doesn't miss Shay Logan in that interview!

""I took a bad touch and he's just lunged at me, nowhere near the ball, smashed me and then I got the ball smacked off the back of my head from whatshisname... [Shay] Logan... or whatever he was," Brown recalls. "He smacked the ball off the back of my head and did a runner as he usually does."

That’s a top interview. Thanks for sharing

I wonder if his decision was in any way influenced by the fact that a section of our support struggled with Steven Whittaker being a different player when he returned?

Exclusively 4 months behind when he said the exact same thing to hibs tv after hibs/celtic in May.

Probably more getting an assistant coach job at Aberdeen as well as playing no doubt on reasonable terms.

I had put that more down to him having gone to Rangers.

That wasn’t how the quote read. But as Darryl Broadfoot stated on Sportsound a couple of nights ago there are some absolute imbicles (albeit a tiny minority) that seem to go out of their way to _abuse_ players. I long for the day these dinosaurs reform or ship out - there’s no excuse for relentless abuse of especially your own players.

Tin hat on as I know from previous threads over the years on abuse of players, incredibly, that a few on our forum don’t see not much wrong with abuse of our own players even when challenged specifically on the use of the term “abuse”. Just because “we pay their wages” is not good enough.

I'm glad we didn't sign him. I hate the thought of Hibs being a retirement home. Give me Magennis of this season over a 36 year old Brown every time.

I see your point but he would certainly be an upgrade on Gogic on current showing.

He could easily have played alongside Magennis and Doyle Hayes on his showings so far.

Better than Gogic.

I'd rather have Newell there personally, don't think brown would fit our current style of play so far this season particularly well.

Celtic had a big fall out with Logan didn’t they? When Logan called out someone for being racist.

I think Broony would huv fitted intae this Hibs team very easily, shame he went tae the Dons.

Would have been a quality addition - on and off the field

100% and it shouldn’t be overlooked. It won’t be the make or break of our season though nor that of the sheep’s. Nevertheless, an addition any team bar the huns would jump at.

I wouldn't say he is well past it but not the player of old.
Many folk saying last year that games were passing him by. He would be a good influence on players but as time goes on he will slow down further. The Don's signed him as a stop gap and then asst manager.

A once fantastic player. He was embarrassed last night against admittedly a good team. I think he'll struggle in the bigger games for Aberdeen (Old Firm and Hibs).

I would have loved SB at Hibs for a season or two and would argue until blue in the face with anyone who said otherwise. Great player, leader and role model for everyone at our club.

Sounds like he knows he's not good enough for us and he fits in better with the huddies at Aberdeen.

Dear blue face. Broon is done and the job of leader and role model at Hibs is already well over subscribed.

No one can argue with the fact that you would have liked to have seen Brown at Hibs. However, he is done as a player and we have our very own role models, thank you.

Interesting reading he didn’t want to come to us. I heard the exact opposite, supposedly told one of his neighbours that he did want to return. I just figured it wasn’t something that we were interested in pursuing.

I said last season i thought he'd gone past what we required as a midfielder, and i loved him as a player. You could see last season he struggled in a celtic side who finished 2nd, and have much more of the ball than we do.

I'm glad he's taking up a big wage with the sheep.

If Brown had wanted to come here I have a feeling that we'd have needed to match Aberdeen's offer of an assistant manager position, and I wouldn't want to change the management team that we have.

We have no room for big egos at the club and I'm very happy with our balance just now.
