For anyone interested, John McGinn is one of the guests on the new series of Q of Sport, starting in a week or so. I don’t know the timing of his episode, tho’.

I don't think I'll bother with Question of Sport now that Sue Barker, Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell have all left.

I felt they all had great chemistry and not convinced their replacements will really replace them.

I might give the McGinn one a watch but not sure.

It’s funny how it’s managed to evolve over the years, losing people you’d have thought they couldn’t replace.

Pretty sure it was Coleman, Beaumont and Hughes when I mainly watched it when I was younger.

I could never stand Matt Dawson so struggled with that combo.

It's always been cringey, naff TV and no idea why it still exists...and Paddy McGuiness, urgh!

I think the last time i watched it religiously was when Ian Botham and the Bill Beaumont were captains.

Can’t say I’ve really heard of the new captains either…some women hockey player and a dude who played a few times for England rugby Union.

And while I’m probably in the minority in actually quite liking Paddy I’ve no idea what he has to do with Sport.

All good on the BBC regional, gender and colour balance checklist tho.

Quite liked it when Willie Carson and his annoying cackle was on it. Can't remember who else was it not Beaumont at that time also

As for Mcguiness wtaf

Thought Sue Barker was an excellent host. McCoist the best captain. Tuffers thick as mince sometimes but amazing doing his charades for sporting terms. Dawson out of his depth. And the fake campness? It def needed refreshed but not that R Sole Paddy McGuiness. Mistake. Doubt it will survive another season.

Bring back Quiz Ball I say. There was one Scottish team (maybe Thistle?) who won regularly thanks to one particular player who was super intelligent. Anyone recall who it was?

4 routes to goal.

Route 1...That's where the expression comes from, I think. 1 difficult question. Answer it correctly and you score.

Routes 2, 3 and 4 were increasingly easier, with the corresponding number of questions. Incorrect answer loses possession.

Defending team could "tackle" before the final question. Correct answer regains possession. Incorrect answer is an own goal.

Damn, I pulled that out of nowhere 😳

Quizball was great. Each team had a celebrity supporter as I recall who was the one who scored most of the points. The players, while nattily dressed and coiffured, were so awkward they could hardly answer their own names correctly!

Maybe Dunfermline? Cushley was with them. According to Wiki:-

As well as his football career, Cushley was a graduate in modern languages from the University of Glasgow and worked as a teacher. In 1964, he acted as a Spanish translator when he and team manager Jimmy McGrory travelled to Spain in an unsuccessful attempt to sign Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano to Celtic.[3] During his two years in London with West Ham, Cushley also worked as a teacher.

ps, according to that, Stuart Hall took over from Vine. I have no memory of that. :greengrin

pps, here's a record of all the results, with teams

In that, you will see, in the later series, that Cushley was in the Scotland team, but was with Dumbarton by then. So oneonone73 was correct.

I loved it and I'm absolutely gutted at what they've done to it. I thought the new captains would work but they'd need a decent host, someone like gabby logan would have worked I reckon or Dan walker. Sue always kept it solid and let the captains report make it funny.

Mcguinness is awful and it's dying due to that plus the new rounds they seem to insist on cramming in every week. I also wish they'd actually show the picture round in full screen to let viewers see them before they answer.

It's just tried to be league of their own which is a totally different show. It's a comedy show about sport. Question of sport is a sports quiz that's funny, or used to be. Gutted
