At first glance I thought the JD beside Paterson was indicating he was captain!

Goalie position looks weak without Marshall and McLaughlin. Don't get Lewis Ferguson being in where is Mctominay assume an injury. Good that Kevin retains his place.

McTominay came on for Man Utd with 15 mins to go on Sunday. Not sure if he got injured between then and now or not.

Strangely I’m the same.
I still think we’ve got the players to be doing better.

That's about our best possible squad we can put together minus McTominay.

Lyndon Dykes simply isn’t good enough imo.
So Scotland’s two strikers are Che Adams and Kevin Nisbet.

Yeah, no idea what he's doing there. Good luck to the guy though.

Really?
Most folk seem to be looking at that squad and pointing out that the GK position is a weakness.
I can't really pretend to know that much about him other than I've spent more hours than I care to think about over the past few seasons watching Hibs trying and largely failing to get the ball past him. The defensive unit of which he is a part, is pretty solid.

Seems odd to select Robertson, who has been injured and was on the bench at the weekend but didn't feature, and not select McTominay, who has been injured but did come on the pitch later in the Man U game.
I can understand why Marshall hasn't made it, he's 3rd choice at Derby now. He'll need a move if we wants back in the Scotland squad. Zander Clark has been decent lately, but he's got a howler in him and isn't international standard at the moment. But our best keepers won't be playing for much longer so we do need to look ahead.

Did he actually make a save against us?
Just last season BTW. Put 6 past them in 2 games the season before.

He's not someone I've ever really noticed that much, positive or negative.
I thought he made it very difficult for Jamie Murphy to get the ball past him during the LC semi when we were on top and that would have made it 1-0 to us, then I remember him saving penalties at Ibrox when they knocked Rangers out the cup.
Other than that, we've been fairly well repelled by the defence he's marshalled.
So when I see his name, I raise a wee eyebrow at him being a keeper I don't know much about finding himself in the Scotland squad, yet I can't name a more deserving candidate and I can't really think of a good reason why he shouldn't be there.
Saints fans I know seem to rate him.

So we're talking what - one 4-1 pumping and a couple of 2-2 draws. There's a last minute Stevie Mallan penalty and the rest (4 games) have been shut outs, including 2 at Hampden.
That's probably better than average, considering we've had a decent threat going forward over that time, no?

Have put this table up before that shows Clark has one of the worst save percentages in the league last season. Doesn't tell a full story of course but it would suggest that it's the defence in front of him stopping incoming shots that are to credit for St Js tight defence. From this seasons very small sample size he is up at 80% however.

Siegrist with 137 saves last season, great stat.

Are there many other options goalie wise? Marshall ain’t playing and McLaughlin limited game time. Both towards the end of their careers too

Wonder if Derby would be difficult to deal with over Marshall ?
Loan or a cheap deal?

Agreed. He's getting found out big time.
Too slow and cumbersome for international level. Winning headers in the middle of the pitch is not enough.

What's everyone thinking our strongest XI is from that then?
Gordon
Cooper Hanley Tierney
Patterson Gilmour Armstrong McGinn Robbo
Christie
Adams
I've given it a go above, but wasn't too easy

It's funny with Patterson - I've seen very little of him and I loathe the team he plays for but in the very brief glimpses I've seen of him I've thought he looks like a superb player and I'd have him in the team with no hesitation.

Don't think he's played at all, though info online is conflicting. Wikipedia says he played in the League Cup (Dunfermline), another source says he got 13 mins last week v Alashkert. BBC website says he got zero mins for both.
Strange how he's in the squad yet David Marshall doesn't even get in as 3rd choice keeper because he's dropped to 3rd choice at Derby.

Easy to throw stones, so who should be in?Based on current form then it would have to be Gordon, surely he's the best Scottish Goalkeeper. Even if he is a puddle drinker.

Much like Doig great going forward not as strong defensively but neither are bad defensively just strength is with game in front of him
Should be in the squad for me, no been playing for his club Ralston should be there on merit based on his form this season. That’s what I don’t like about the national team at times form players get overlooked as he is trying to create a club culture which I do get to a degree.

Marshall is crap anyway. Glad to see Kelly in the squad, a very good keeper. McLaughlin was in the squad last year when not playing, getting more time this season and isn’t. Very strange!

Steve Clarke said Rangers told him McLaughlin wasn't available.
Edit: just seen the Rangers covid thread which maybe explains it.

He had a good game against Rangers and then all the usual suspects said he should be in the Scotland team. It’s nonsense. He is bang average.

I’d always have the third keeper as a young up and coming player. There isn’t any chance the third keeper will be used other than in a freak accident, therefore I’d rather integrate the youngster and give them the experience.
