Solid enough point today all things considered.
Solid enough start to the season all things considered.
Very solid foundations to build upon in terms of the season. Stop a higher percentage of crosses into our box and aligned with that, defend our six yard box better, and we will have a very positive season.
We are onto something here, let’s not forget that, we have a good squad and team.

If you consider Hibs starting the season unbeaten after 3 games to be "hardly an achievement " then you need to go and support PSG. You have no idea who is going to finish bottom two. We thumped one of those teams and drew away from home with a very depleted squad against the other. Cheer up and enjoy life

Of course it’s disappointing not to win, but we didn’t lose, we’re still unbeaten and we’re still top of the league. Reading this forum you’d think we were in complete disarray, so many threads slating our players it’s mental.

I think a good few of us are just frustrated with what appears to be some self-inflicted damage.
Unbeaten in the league - great - but we’ve not played anyone yet that I reckon will threaten finishing top 6 this season, and we’ve already dropped points and been eliminated from Europe.
We’ve got sterner tests to come, ones that will challenge us even if we get all our players back from injury, add to the squad, and don’t lose anyone.
So whilst I think some of the negativity is ott, I do think that we shouldn’t just gloss over our negatives right now when providing balance.
It’s possible to praise all that is good whilst highlighting the poor.
Overall - my glass is more than half full, but we’ve got a big couple of weeks to come before the transfer window shuts if we’re to continue our forward progression.

7 points from 9 against 3 teams likely to be in bottom 6. Never safe to do so, but if we assume we finish top 6 then if we keep that return going on average that will result in 42 points which is the exact same points tally against bottom 6 teams as last season. we are doing pretty well really. There are always things to improve on, and losing a late goal when we really should have put the game to bed is a frustrating one. However, all things considered we have a had a pretty good start domestically.

I don't think anybody is 'celebrating' being top of the league, but we have 7 points after 3 games, two of them away from home, and that represents a decent start to the season.
That being said IMO there's nothing wrong with discussing things we can clearly see could be done better, after all surely that's what the manager and training staff will be doing, so why shouldn't we?
Our finishing could be better, it's an ongoing theme carried on from last season that we need 3 or 4 chances to score one goal, I've only seen the Sportscene highlights of today's game, but we passed up a number of pretty decent chances and one brilliant chance and that is something we have to improve on, it's the difference between being top on goal difference and being top by 2 points. It was the same last season, there's no doubt we could have mounted a serious challenge for second. but we dropped points in winnable games that could well have made the difference and there's no doubt not scoring when the pressure was on contributed to that.
Our defence is currently below par there's no doubt about it, highlighting our profligacy in front of goal is one thing, but if we were better at the back two goals should be enough to win any game. We don't prevent crosses into our box and at least once a game we seem to have a collective brain fart at the back ... when you have two centre halves and a 6' plus midfielder in the 6 yard box and a guy 5 inches off being a dwarf still gets a free header right in front of goal you have a problem.
Pointing these deficiencies out isn't moaning for the sake of it, they are things that are fixable and if we can fix them we will be a better team for it.

Dundee we’re excellent second half of last season and would have won that league if they had turned up earlier. They gave us a decent match in the cup and have a good solid unit now. They will take points from a lot of teams this year and stay up in my opinion.
Personally I’m hoping Livi take the drop and none of the plastic pitch sides are promoted.

Unfortunately the defensive frailties will be with us for a while, partly due to individual mistakes and also as a consequence of playing open attacking football which the majority of us want, we don’t want to watch results.
McGinn last season was steady and an improvement on what we had before him, he now looks shot of confidence, Doig has plenty of potential and going forward is promising but defending is not his biggest asset at the moment, McGregor, Hanlon and Porteous are a mixed bag within a game the latter the best we have but as I’ve said for a long time he needs guidance, Lewis is a steady pro and in my opinion a squad player.
This is the reality and there are no quick fixes, whilst we try to correct this problem which might begin with the basics, concentration and actually enjoying the challenge and art of defending we’ll need to be patient, I’m still confident of finishing in a decent position at the end of the season.

So far this season we've played eight games. Won five, drawn two and lost one. The two draws arguably could have been wins had we taken our chances and the one loss was a game in the balance until McGregor got sent off.
Considering some injuries we've had and we're still top (OK only 3 games in but if you can't enjoy it now when can you?...) I'm baffled as to how vociferous some of the criticism has been. Certainly room for improvement (Gogic is the one that sticks in my mind, his form has plummeted from last season) but certainly no need to be so OTT as it is on this page.

Agreed. Although, these are the sides we traditionally drop too many pints to. Yesterday’s results was unfortunate as we need to pick up points when playing badly if we aim to emulate or improve on last season. For that reason alone, I think we’re making a good start.

Sorry, but I wouldn't say it's an excellent start to the season. It's been a good start to the season taking 7 points from 9 against teams we should really beat after the Motherwell away performance you could argue we haven't taken as many chances as we could or should have.
An excellent start would have been 9 points out of 9 and in the Europa Conference playoff round.

these kinds of stats are always a fun distraction - i remember we were top at this same stage in 1997 having beaten celtic , put 4 past Killie and drawn in Dundee (at Tannadice) and folk were banging in goals from the halfway line.
The squad of 2021 is night and day compared to then (much much better now) but the main reassurance for me is Jack Ross seems to have the measure that our current right back and centre backs are not top 4 standard (as a unit), our tall keeper loses headers from 6 yards out most weeks (because he doesn't come for cross balls) and we are light up top. I am encouraged by the fact Jack Ross is under no illusions there, and it's a big week ahead in the market (just my opinion)

Think that tells me that the top 5 are going to be miles clear of the rest this season. There is huge pressure on The Ugly Sisters again this year as the winner of the league goes directly into the Champions League group stages. One (or preferably both) of them will hopefully slip up and mean another club can have a real run for a top 2 finish.
