Watching EFL highlights this morning and noticed he's still playing at Stoke. Despite all his big money moves and making a fortune out of the game I'm sure his only winners medal is the 2007 League Cup win over Killie for Hibs in 2007. It does make me wonder whether he or other players would sacrifice money over success and what do they define success? Scott Brown from the same team for example has won bucket loads of medals.

He's done really well for himself to be fair, says a lot that - though he's clearly not Premiership level and hasn't been for some time - he's always been wanted by no lower than mid-Championship.

Quite nice we're his best footballing day as well.

I'd hope his main regret was that he wasn't such an utter waste for Scotland for a decade. Could really have done with him.

I don't.

I think both will be happy with their careers but they've each had their reasons for the choices they've made.

Similar things happen in other jobs. Some people will have an excellent career without changing company/job very often, while others get itchy feet and move every 3-5 years but can do equally as well.

I’d argue Fletcher took the riskier career route when he moved to Burnley. If he fails there he could have easily fallen down the divisions or found himself back in Scotland real quick.

If he moved to Celtic then yes he’d have lots of winners medals, but he wouldn’t have been playing against some of the best players in the world week in week out.

In the end, he’s played for several years in the Premier league, had a wee jaunt to Marseille, and is still putting in a shift for a decent championship team despite being 34 now. Only he could tell you if he’d rather have won a few parade walk Scottish titles instead.

Levein ****ed him over when he was at his best, playing and scoring plenty in the premier league.

He was never that bad for Scotland. Always held it up very well and scored a few goals .

Oh I know Levein's responsible for a huge chunk of it, and he's had injury problems too. He's been fine for Scotland when playing, but pretty sure he could have had a good few extra caps had he really wanted them.

Levein handled Fletcher appallingly. Bit like his whole disastrous tenure as Scotland boss.

Fletcher will have made a stack of cash in his career so I imagine he's quite happy. He's been involved in some big money moves (think Sunderland paid £12 million for him?) plus some especially dodgy hair transplants. Always felt he was too reliant on his left foot tho.

He and Benji were superb in that League Cup final.

He won bucket loads of medals because he chose to compete at a lower level.

Players at any sport should always aspire to compete at the highest level.

Brown was a strange one. Of the golden generation I thought he looked the most complete player and the one with the most potential to get even better. I was surprised he didn't stretch himself more by moving away from Scotland but he must have had his reasons. He also seemed to become a different sort of player at Celtic, more of an enforcer than the more free-spirited goalscoring midfielder he was at Hibs.

I am only asking because I dont know.... how many times has fletch been relegated?
The most one sided striker I have ever seen, but he has earned his cash.

Said it year back and will say it again now - fletch is a natural goal scorer, but an utter panic merchant when he has time on the ball.
If he doesn't have time to think he will probably score.

Twice early on with Burnley and Wolves I think, not sure if he was part of the Sunderland squad or if he was at Marseille when they went down? Been in the championship since then.
