Most cases linked to semi and final. Wimbledon had much fewer cases as people could take their drinks to seats. Not an issue for Scotland then but impacts catering inside stadiums.

No shock here was always going to happen that’s why we bowed out early didn’t want to add to any wider health risk 😂

Probably a bit off topic, but surprised more hasn't been made out the fact that they clearly breached the 60,000 limit for the Denmark and Italy games. Wembley was full for the final, and even with the crowd problems wasn't even a hint they would be aiming for 30,000 empty seats.

On the 30th June, the BBC reported this...
Nearly 2,000 Covid cases in Scotland have been linked to people watching Euro 2020 football matches.
Public Health Scotland said two thirds of the 1,991 cases were people who travelled to London for Scotland's game with England on 18 June.
This included 397 fans who were inside Wembley for the match.
If the above is accurate, then a sizeable percentage of the total cases were from Scotland.
........................................
Sadly, i lost a pal who went down for the Auld Enemy game.
He was admitted to the Royal around a week after the match.
ICU for about 2 weeks, then sadly he passed away.
He had both his jabs.
He was 70 yrs old.
An ST holder in the Lower West,he was.
RIP Davie

Sorry for your loss and just goes to show this virus can still be deadly in certain circumstances and not to be treated lightly. Even after 2 jabs if you expose yourself to multiple hits of Covid over a period of time, your body sometimes cannot cope.

The numbers are relatively low considering, especially with almost zero compliance with mask wearing etc, and certainly don't match the predictions of doom. And show that such mass gatherings, even in the most extreme circumstances such as these - when all order breaks down, are relatively safe.
Albeit that within those numbers there will be sad losses such as Davie, RIP.

I wonder how much of the covid transmission came from shared transport, as opposed to at the event itself?
https://www.cbssports.com/motor-sports/news/indianapolis-500-only-19-of-135000-spectators-tested-positive-for-covid-19/
My view is that most people attending the Indy 500 would have driven there with close family/friends. I think trains and buses and pre-match pubs/post-match pubs might have been more significant for UK football than the game itself.

Thanks for your thoughts regards Davie.
He was a life long Hibernian.
From Abbeyhill to Clermiston, when i met him in the sixties.
He married an Ayrshire girl and he lived in Ayr for many years.
He moved to East Craigs 4 year ago. Had ST since.
Wee story
The final year we were in the Chmpionship, we both went to our away game at Ayr.
We left at dawn!!
Got the Express from Corstorphine to Buchanan St. then connection to Ayr.
In his old local back of eleven,
Mostly a Celtic bar.
Bus load of them in there heading for Celtic Park.
" Awe,heres Hibs Davie" someone shouted. Great welcome.
Beer and vodka presented!
Anyway ,we went to game.
Think we won 2 nil
Back to same bar, then Davie said
"another pub,Mick, fore we head up to the bus station"
"Oh, its a rAngers boozer by the way," he added!!!
Just got my crucifix tucked into my polo shirt in time only to discover my scarf was hanging out ma jacket pocket!
Same again though ,Hibs Davie made welcome .
I was not so keen ! Strange scene for me!
It was a long (vodka) day.
Managed to catch the second last bus from Glesca back to Embra.
Davie made last orders at the Mid Yoken.(1 a.m shut)
I went hame shattered,
A day i wont forget wae ma pal, Hibs Davie.
Our final away game together, after being to hundreds in our youth.
Glory Glory to Hibs Davie.

Mick sorry for your loss. Recognise the name from Clermiston. Shows that we are still not out the woods yet with Covid especially when you hear about the anti vaxers in the younger age groups.

I went down to that. The trains were ridiculous. No one was wearing masks. No social distancing. It was a nap there was going to an outbreak

The two pubs in my story
The Anchor in town on the river side.
That was the sevco one.
Davie's Celtic pals were in the sports bar ,Willie Wastles in Sandgate/New Bridge Street.
Maybe more a match day meeting place than a full on Celtic pub .
But a mini bus left there for Celtic Park while we were in.
Never seen a boozer with so many tv screens.
Nice clean place too.
The Anchor did appear to be a 24/7 sevco bar !!
The pubs are a stones throw from each other.......Or a beer bottle !!

We will never know.
But had Davie been better informed/aware back in June on the possibility of infection even having both his innoculations, he may have not made the journey.
It has certainly prevented me returning to pubs
.Or crowded areas/places.
Scared me
Not been in a pub since before Covid hit us.
And that is not like me.
I was told(from Davies brother) that a number of guys from the Clerry Inn who went to Wembley tested positive on return home.
Davie was not with this group though.
Get the effing jab, please guys.
Save Lives!!

As I said in my post the virus is still out there doing damage, and even after having 2 jabs it's still no guarantee, especially in circumstances where close contact is impossible to avoid, like on trains, buses, pubs etc.

I mentioned that Davie was a season ticket holder.
His ST for this season has ,on his wishes, been given to an elderly Hibs man who could not afford up front cost for ST
