Just watched Betis v Cadiz in Spanish league with 36 year old Alvaro Negredo scoring with a twice taken penalty for Cadiz and Joaquin who I think is 40 coming on as a sub for Betis . Got me thinking who were oldest players I`d seen playing for Hibs . Probably lots in early 30s , maybe odd cases in testimonial matches (Gordon Strachan , maybe Eamonn Bannon or Kenny Dalglish ) . Maybe coaches who have been emergency subs in 1 match ? Looked at Wiki and it said Budgie at 41 and for goalscorers Jimmy McColl at 38 back in 1931 . There will have been other goalies who played for us in their late 30s I`m sure ( Leighton and others ) and maybe outfield players too . How old was Wilkins ? Roy Barry ? Gordon Smith must have been well into his 30s when he left us let alone when he played for Hearts and Dundee .
For youngest players Wiki mentions Jamie McCluskey at 16 in 1993 (could still be playing ) and for goalscorer Jimmy O `Rourke of course .
When will next time be that we see a 16 year old or player in 40s playing for Hibs ?

Robert Pires would have been in his late 30s in the testimonial if you wanna count that ?! But first name that came to mind was Budgie.

Edit: Not to scare anyone but that Ian Murray testimonial was almost 10 years ago…

I remember trying to figure this out a few years ago - but I reckon Shefki Kuqi was the last player I saw play for Hibs who was older than me at the time.

At 43, I don't think that's going to change now.

(Apologies, as I realise this has nothing to do with the OP's question).

Joe McLaughlin? Ex-Chelsea boy we bought when he was 36 or something. I didn't really feel that was a 'brilliant steal'. He was a Michael Nelson type transfer. Nelson is still playing apparently - 41 years old now.
I didn't realise Wilkins was 40. Around about the same time, there were rumours of us getting Strachan in, possibly as manager, maybe as player-manager. He'd have been about the same age too.

Craig Brewster was 35 and feel he should have been kept for another year or two. Mixu must have been around that age also

Tommy Craig was 35 I think and although he only played a handful of games he was fairly decent in what was a youngish team.

I can mind a Derby back in the 80’s with John Blackley & Sandy Jardine both playing .the highlights were on sportscene & Archie Macpherson commentating .
Can’t mind the score though

He played in a league cup game away at Albion Rovers (but played at Hamilton). We won 3-1. We were 1-0 down early doors and never got going for a long time. Rovers were managed by Kevin McCallister at the time.

I remember the game clearly because I missed a train to Glasgow which meant I missed the last train back to Aberdeen. Ended up kipping on a bench in Buchanan Street Bus station.

John Blackley apparently played his last game for Hibs, on his 36th birthday, against Rangers in a 0-0 draw at Easter Road.
