According to EEN we are looking to tie up new deals for Doidge, Allan & Hanlon.
Pleased with all of those, will add a good bit stability to the squad.

Two games Hanlon has missed has shown how important he still is to our team, we've looked ropey defensively without him so glad he's one of the ones we're speaking to.
Doidge is a no brainer, get him signed up ASAP.
Happy to see Allan included also. While he's not first pick right now he's still a class player on his day and if we're going to need him this season.

Allan has had his well documented health issues, he'll be aware of his squad status nowadays, Hibs have good for him and stood by him.

Yes please.
Being selfish on the Doidge situation, his injury may help us get a new deal done as he's not going to be able to go on a run of goal scoring (which it looked like he'd started), which might have got clubs contacting his agent about a pre-contract in Jan. Obviously I'm gutted he's out injured for a few months but hopefully we can get a new deal done and he's back playing ASAP.

Totally. The most non-factual Hibs myth ever. Simply to suit the supposed narrative that JR doesn't like flair players because he's so conservative... which is a myth in itself.
3 very good players at this level -so fingers crossed.

It really doesn't.
Just guesswork from someone at the EEN.
My guesswork is new contracts will be offered to Hanlon and Doidge and a thanks for your commitment, good luck for the future etc etc to Allan.
McGregor will retire from playing. McGinn, Hallberg, Wright, Gullan and Murphy are also out of contract next summer and as things stand only Murphy looks like he could be offered another deal. Almost certainly another year option in his contract. McGinn will almost certainly get replaced but might get a season extention as a back up.
The sentimentality at Hibs ended with the daft deals for Gray & McGregor and the subsequent introduction of Ron Gordon.
Allan will be a big earner at Hibs so unless he can make a regular contribution to the team this season he is gone with his wage being used to pay a new player.
At that point the Hibs squad will consist solely of players signed by Ross or players whose contracts have been extended by Ross.
P.S. Gogic, Stevenson, Mackie & Bradley also out of contract at the end of the season. 13 players in total.

Is there more than one article ? I could only find the Moira Gordon one where she said Hibs were looking to extend the contract of some players, then went on to list a number who were out of contract in the summer. Other than Doidge her article did not say what players were being offered new deals.

Needless to say the News doesn’t say anything other than the club is working on Doidge’s contract and then lists the others who are out of contract and will be deciding who gets new offers.

What is daft about the deals for Gray and McGregor? Gray has moved across from playing to coaching/ambassador and McGregor will do the same when the time is right?

The meaning of status can vary depending on the context. I interpret J-C's meaning to be Scotty's status is that he's not a regular starter.

Keeps quoting me but as I have him on ignore, I don't see it. I do indeed mead squad status, any new contract won't see him as one of the higher earners. If they're all bog standard squad players, the you'd have guys like Gulkan demanding wages they dont deserve.

Really? you've never mentioned it.
If he gets himself back in the side and plays like he did previous, he'll be getting a new deal with good wages. Far too early to be writing him off, or giving him some ''squad player'' status.

Not for the first time you’ve made comments on the deals Gray and McGregor received. I take it you know the specifics of these deals ?
Your point is a good one. I don't know anything about their contracts other than what was stated by Hibs at the time they were awarded so I should have said on the surface they appeared poor deals for the club on the playing side based on their injury issues at that time alone, particularly David Gray who appeared to be at a perfect cut off point at Hibs. Could have become a coach straight away or moved on to a club at a lower level with a promise of a coaching job at Hibs when he finished playing.
I say this presuming that a senior playing contract is far more lucrative to the recipient than a rookie coaching one.
In the 2 seasons after the new deals and my comments Gray played a total of 234 minutes of league football which equates to less than 3 league games football in 2 years before retiring to the coaching side of the contract. Whatever way you cut that up it was a poor return on the club playing budget for 2 years which could have been used to pay the wages of a younger fitter replacement.
In the same 2 season period McGregor played 922 minutes of league football which equates to just over 10 games or 5 per season. In that time he proved a good back up who still had it when called upon but his well documented knee injuries restrict his training which restricts his fitness which restricts his ability to play regularly.
All things considered that deal has worked out although there are now signs at 36 that he is on borrowed time and the coaching, mentoring, ambassador role beckons. Certainly has a great character for the mentoring and ambassador side of things and can see why the club wanted to keep him at Hibs.

Fair enough and I appreciate your response.
Fwiw it’s worth I do know a bit about their contracts (though I have too much respect for both players to talk about that on a public forum.)
In the case of both players their contribution to the club is much more than what they bring on the pitch. In David Gray’s case he was fit last season, but JR chose not to use him, but the fact he wanted him to become part of his coaching staff shows his regard for him and what qualities he has. The same could be said of Darren McGregor, the difference being he did get game time and performed well when called upon.
I think there is an assumption that the long deals they received meant lucrative wages…..

What if Gray wouldn’t have learnt elsewhere what he’s learnt at Hibs and now goes on to become a top coach, and has led by example with the younger players like Doig, Mackay, Nisbet etc coming into the first team? That’s surely worth far more to Hibs than saving a few Bob on his playing contract.

I love Allan
I just can’t see him or hibs being eager so early to get an extension to contract tied up. Allan will be thinking he needs games and looking unlikely to start a lot here when most are fit.
I personally would be giving Allan another two years minimum guy on his day is fantastic

They were 4 year deals with a move to the coaching staff when it was prudent to do so. Sdg I'm sure has got the badges and daz is not far away. I'm sure daz knows he'll get limited time but is more than capable at spl level especiallyif he gets a run of games. Possibly his last season but a better mentor I can't imagine. Love the club and I'm sure he'll be great on the coaching side. I'm sure the playing and coaching contracts will be separate. Sdg realised he was unlikelyto play so moved to the coaching side. Maybe the deals had a degree of sentimentin them but loyalty works both ways. Sdg signed for us when we only had eight signed players. Great having them around the club.

I don’t think I’d be looking at a deal for Allan just now. I think he’s looked well off it in his brief appearances. Not really intended to be critical of him as I think he needs to play to get the sharpness that his game is all about. If he doesn’t play regularly he doesn’t get that sharpness so I’m not sure he’ll even offer much as an impact player.

I hope your guesswork is right. I think a thank you and good luck to Allan is the only option. The second group I would definitely keep Murphy for at least a season but the rest can go. Mackie unfortunately looks unlikely to break through but I'd offer Bradley and Gogic new deals and see how Lewis is doing. He appears to be Peter Pan like and he has hardly had any injuries over the years so he may be a good cover player or even still pushing a starter for a place. The good news is we have a fairly settled first team and what we need now is a great bench and some players who will fight for a regular first team spot. It has been a long rebuild after the Stubbs Team broke up but to me we seem to have return to the successful strategy that left when Lennon arrived. Every player we buy recently seems to be at the very least decent and most offer a chance of future profits. Combine that with the odd loan that we probably couldn't afford to buy and it is a great way to do business.

My reasoning re McGinn moving to back up next season is Ross and the recruitment team will always be looking to improve the team and I think that the position of right back is the most obvious and easiest one to improve.
Paul McGinn is very good going forward but not so good at defending.
He played every week this season and last because he was and currently is the best we have.
He has been a great signing in every way but teams are always looking to improve and I think he is one Hibs can improve on whilst keeping him as a very capable back up.
N.B. It will be interesting to see how Cadden is utilised when he returns at the start of September.
