View Full Version : Big screens.

That was all part of the original plans, replacing advertising boards with ribbons.
If it was a choice, the ribbons would make more sense than the screens if the ribbons were put completely around the pitch and in available space on each tier of each stand.

Typical Jambo councillors refusing to move Albion Place. :grr:
Or, we could have tried the Gorgie variation and reduced the pitch size to non compliance , but got the stands to fit the site. :greengrin

Celtic were permitted to build over Janefield Street when they redeveloped Parkhead, but I'd imagine it must be private. They also obtained permission for the same stand to overhang the adjacent cemetery, which is very unusual.

Are there plans to put electronic ribbons around the stands permanently?
Man City now have two rows of them like Wolves do.
I think City had to remove 2 or 3 rows from around the pitch to accommodate the 2nd ribbon. Obviously makes them a lot more money that actual paying customers.

Yep, they have pillars supporting the roof on the inside which means there will be restricted view seats in the upper tier because of this.

And an absolute nightmare to get into due to the sheer volume of fans that enter this stand and the tightness of the entry points. Remember a couple of years ago when they had the massive crushes happening due to (possible) turnstile issues.

If a LED ribbon is installed on the front of the top tier, it may well be that there'll be a similar narrow band linking the top of it to the top of the scoreboard, meaning that there would be a continuous link from the ribbon via the corner screen to the gable screen.
Obviously total guesswork.

There are photos earlier in the thread that illustrate why a screen can't go between the West and either the FF/South – the gap between the West and those stands is much smaller.
The small screens inside the East stand gables are meant to solve the problem – although I've no idea whether they're big enough to be seen clearly from further along the East.

Yeah I sort of understood that was going to be the case, I just wondered if one of them being positioned on the west side of the stadium might have been better for some people in the east stand but maybe it won't be a problem.

17-09-2021, 02:00 PM
There are photos earlier in the thread that illustrate why a screen can't go between the West and either the FF/South – the gap between the West and those stands is much smaller.
The small screens inside the East stand gables are meant to solve the problem – although I've no idea whether they're big enough to be seen clearly from further along the East.
Fair enough I suppose all will be revealed tomorrow!

Looks like that one is a bit more offset rather than square on like the other one, maybe the angles they were working with were different and that was the best viewing angle

Hopefully not, but yes I could see Hearts fans getting riled by replays of a winning Hibs derby goal or Rangers/Celtic fans also chucking a few things at the screens. Mind you, they'd run the risk of injuring their own fans if they started chucking coins - or indeed p***ing off their own fans if they were chucking food or drink.
Come to think of it, that would be doubly satisfying to see a full-scale rammy break out at the Hearts end after we'd gubbed them!

They should bring back the wooden board in the corner they used to stick the half time scores on.....if I remember correctly (and it is a long time ago) you had to buy a programme to match the number on the board against which game it was for.

Would be good to see replays of incidents on the screens
They showed replays, but not of anything contentious, e.g. disallowed goal.

Screens were a welcome addition bit please ditch the pre match stuff. It killed the build up more than ever by having adverts and old footage right up til kick off.
Thought that was one of the best parts.
The screens were excellent and everything seemed to go well considering.
Definitely add to the match day experience.
Good to see replays of some chances but they probably won’t show opposition chances / controversial incidents.
Sound didn’t seem an issue in the East ? Did they do player introductions / team lineups on the screens - only made it to stadium 10 mins before ko.
Screens played 1 and undefeated still.

I thought it was good but should finish at around 10 to 3 and let the atmosphere build. Just my opinion , maybe I'm in the minority but the atmosphere was non existent in the first half

I don’t think we typically have an atmosphere except for the old firm and hearts. Another very low gate today and noticed a lot of supporters still coming into their seats long after kick off. Wouldn’t be surprised if the players like some noise to help them…although granted that didn’t show first half!

I thought they were great. I enjoyed the wee film before kick off. I preferred back when you couldn’t hear the tannoy. I was with my teenage nephew today and he’s a mumbling wee gimp at the best of times, so gave up trying to have a conversation over the noise of them.

We played crap 1st half so not much to sing about.
Thought the stadium looked fuller than 13K + good to see the FF more full.
Hopefully over time as the match day experience improves fans will arrive earlier. A large fans bar for pre match drinks would help and improved food options and service.

Thought the old footage was best part of the day - just turn the volume down! All in all, very impressed, think they'll look particularly good for big night games under the lights.
Agreed.
At half time the volume seemed fine though. Dunno if they turned it down or it just sounded better cause the stadium was full compared to before kickoff.
The black bar at the side of the screen at the away end annoys me more than it should though. Looks crap.

I hope they decide to turn the old scoreboard back on for nostalgia sake, maybe once I’m used to looking to the new screens for the game time I won’t miss it as much :)
They were a good addition I’m sure they will get better , I actually caught glimpse of them when penalty was giving , player had hands all over our player

All this feedback is hugely appreciated.
Today was the first full match production and we are going to do our best to improve it and tweak what works and what doesn’t. What makes a different now is that we have a match day structure in place and that we can build on it. The volumes were pretty high at the start but it’s just really me feeding back to the control box to let everyone know how it sounds outside and in each stand. I’ll keep reading and keeping an eye on feedback and do what I can to make sure we get these right.
I particularly look forward to the cup final montage when Rangers visit 👀🤣

It was very loud today
We did all used to moan we couldn't hear anything though with the old system :greengrin
I genuinely never thought I was that old until today, but please turn the volume down pre match. I had to shout to talk to my mate in the seat beside me. The sound is clear now, but it just doesn’t need to be so loud.

Thought it was very well structured and apart from the volume ran very well.
Kids seeing themselves when mascots and the wee videos being the highlights for me.
Maybe when announcing the team we could have an image for each player maybe with some stats.
Also I'd rather hear commentary than blaring music when playing the highlights before the game and maybe pre match interviews.
Very good start though.

Loved the highlights montage before kickoff, maybe less dubstep music and more traditional Hibs songs would be better (personal taste I suppose ...).
Having the team lineups on the screen just makes it feel more professional, good first outing I'd say!

Was meh about getting them but thought they were good and given they will pay for themselves in 2 years it was a no brainer.
The joys of not having debt allow these things to be done with relative ease.
Also good to have a soundsystem that doesn't distort as well.
Along with the new kiosks that makes 3 big ticks of the list to bring the stadium up to scratch.
Clearing weeds and rubbish would be a quick win as would repairing the dented area above the behind the goals entrance.
All coming together nicely.

I'm in the west upper and I couldn't chat to my dad next to me as it was so loud. We were literally having to shout at each other to be heard! It wasn't even that busy, we got in around 2.40.

Thought they were great. I did glance over to see replays of things though. Would be good to get an idea of what is alllowed on that front. The adverts must be on a timer and I think there were some occasions they came on when maybe a replay would have been good. Not sure the leeway on replays overriding the ads when required.
Will be quality wind up and build up potential for certain games!
The East does get the raw end of it, however, was killing my neck trying to watch the side screens!

Given that our eyes are now drawn to the two corners is there the opportunity to sell the big white spaces below them for prime advertising?

No clock during a game is allowed to go beyond 45 mins or 90 mins.

I think they’re a superb addition. The highlights from the Livi game were good, as was the pre match montage. Sitting in the FF Lower it can be hard to see what’s happening at the other end, so I found myself watching the screens at times to get a better view. Overall I was very impressed, the fact that it was the first time using them and that ways to improve their usage makes it even better.
Thanks. Why though?
Probably because the time indicated by the 4th official is the minimum amount of extra time, not the exact amount. Fans would potentially go nuts if it reached that time on the clock and the ref hadn't blown.

Probably to avoid controversy, here, I even found the SFA rule on it for you :greengrin
“ 16.4 Clocks in a stadium provided for the purposes of showing the amount of time played may run during the match, provided they are stopped at the end of normal time in each half, i.e. after 45 and 90 minutes respectively. This requirement also applies in the event of extra time being played (i.e. after 15 minutes of each half)”

They looked great. Good use of adverts when the ball was out of play. Guess this is how the screens will pay for itself within a year as suggested by Ron Gordon.
One thing I noticed sitting in the West Stand I found myself looking less at the time on the scoreboard as I'd normally do when it was in the south stand and easier to see. This is no bad thing tbh, as sometimes the time can be a distraction especially when your holding onto a slender lead...

Can some detail explain the montage shown in the build up? Was it old classic games? Which ones? Or was it goals from the season so far?
Here in the States as the players come out and team is announced they put a picture or a video (player smiling/serious face while folding arms etc) and its a nice touch!
