Players contracts will probably have numerous clauses whether it’s a relegation wage decrease, goal bonuses, wage rises after x amount of appearances etc. We never mention them publicly though so I’m not surprised we haven’t here either.

Its easy to be cynical about footballers, while on the other hand it just as easy for us fans to get carried away with naivety, but he genuinely appears to be one of those seemingly rare characters who is here because he really enjoys playing for Hibs. I remember Marvin Bartley saying something along those lines when speaking about Boyle after a game last year. Terrific news, really heartening and great to see.

Got to wonder what Aberdeen were playing at submitting their bid in the first place. They must have known we’d never sell him to them, while creating a bid of bad blood in doing so.

After abuse the Twitter admin has taken he should have followed it up with a Utilita Energy post that just had "oh, and Boyle's signed a new deal" tagged on at the bottom.

In all seriousness, it's great news and hopefully calms our support down a little. I've a funny feeling Boyle will finish his career here.

They probably knew that Boyle was about to extend his contract, agent would make it known, and also knew that we wouldn’t accept their bid. Their fans now think they tried to buy a player for the amount folk believe was the release clause figure taking a bit of heat off them especially after their defeat at the weekend. In short bud in to appease their fans with no real belief they’d sign him .

If that was their tactic it might backfire. Think of Celtic and their derisory offers for SJM and how much it annoyed their fans. Appreciate in this case it wasn't drawn out for weeks on end.

It will also alert other clubs that they have half a million to spend perhaps pushing the price up for their players in negotiations

Im over the moon hes staying, the guys a joy to watch. One good thing from the sheeps bid was the attention it got. For the first time I can remember the backpages were full of this story same on social media(rare for non old firm). Sport is showbiz now and a wee bit of public beef gets the punters attention. So well done to the Aberdeen board for giving us something to discuss and ultimately laugh at. They played the heels well but in the end the good guys won. Giruyyssp!

As Hibs fans we have had to endure losing our quality players and over the years have struggled to fill the void left by them however today, well for me anyway, if there was any doubt, showed that Ron Gordon means business.

We have the nucleus of having the best squad I have seen at ER in terms of quality throughout the team. I would say we’ve not seen this type of quality since the McLeish era. Yes we had McGinn and co but we have a super team now!

Whilst it bodes well and yes we are far from the finished article we are going in the right direction.

Hopefully a few more quality signings to come and we can kick on

I really don’t know how we’ve kept hold of him, think he’d fit in at almost any Championship club down south and after a couple of seasons would be an eight figure value player.

He’s just got everything. Attitude, pace, goals, assists, tracks back, lifts morale.

I’m very angry about it TBH, he tried to pretend they were Billy big baws by putting in a non starter of a bid for our best player. It’s pathetic patter. Yup, in an era where loyalty these days means absolutely nothing in football, it’s nice to see someone with a genuine love for the club and the city wanting to stay knowing fine well he could earn x amount elsewhere.

Fantastic news from Hibs, I think I can speak for most when I say that we could never have envisaged how important he would become when he first signed but it’s been a pleasure watching him develop & get better as the years have went on.

Absolutely brilliant that Martin has signed on for another extension. It speaks volumes about his love for Hibs and how far we have come as a club. Over decades as a fanbase we have grown conditioned to our best players being continually sold off with no chance to build momentum as a team. Martin's renewed commitment to Hibs is a sign that we've maybe turned a corner in that respect. We have had commited Hibees fly the coup too soon in the past because all we could offer them was sweetie money. It's all relative of course and I'm sure Martin could earn a bigger wage packet somewhere if he was of a mind to - but money is not everything - to Martin Boyle at least - and it seems Hibs have been able to offer him a deal which makes staying a viable proposition. Happy days indeed :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Saleable assets Boyle, Doig, Magennis and Nisbet plus MacKay now secured on long contracts is good work by Hibs.
Doesn't mean they won't leave but it means we won't get our trousers pulled down in public by the likes of Celtic.
Leaves Porteous as the readily saleable asset whose contract is up first in Summer 2023. Would like to see Hibs add another year to that at some point this season.

Doidge and Hanlon contracts are up at the end of the season both of whom have proved essential Hibs players. Both should be tied up on two year extensions by the end of the year.
