That’s sad. One of my boyhood heroes. Top striker. RIP Gerd.

68 goals in 62 games for your country is some tally.

Sad news, great wee player with legs like tree trunks.

68 goals in 62 games for your country is some tally.

And in an era where there were far fewer international games too. Even more outstanding.

Now that is a goal scorer, loved watching him as a youngster on telly, liked a goal against the Englander as well, sad loss to football.

The ultimate penalty box predator. Some great memories from watching him. RIP Gerd

It really is remarkable. Klose scored 3 more goals for Germany but played 65 more games.

Muller was a name I knew and I'd seen footage of him but reading about him today is a bit of a lesson. Some unbelievable goalscoring feats.

Better goal scoring ratio than either Ronaldo or Messi.

Different era, of course.

Der Bomber Lethal in the box. First game I saw him play was the QF in Mexico when Sir Alf thought he'd won the game at 2-0 and took Charlton off. This released Beckenbauer who then turned the game. Muller getting the winner in ET

Absolute legend of the game! Without Muller, I doubt Bayern would be the giants that they are today, with the success he brought them in the 70s.

Fitting that he finally saw someone break his league goals in one Bundesliga season record of 40, when Lewandowski hit 41 this year. Thought it was a real touch of class at the end of the game, Lewandowski wore a ‘forever Gerd’ t-shirt.

RIP

Lewandowski is one of the few strikers who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. Playing with Muller must have been amazing in that you pretty much knew almost every game you played he would get a goal for the team.
