View Full Version : Team for sunday

Still disappointed from last night but we move on to Sunday with a chance for a place in the quarter finals.
Bit of a catch-22 because you want your best players playing but it's impossible to get everyone in the team.
Would like to see Allan starting and definitely being unrealistic but Laidlaw and Nisbet up top.

I’d put out our strongest team, and start to build momentum again.

Macey
McGinn
McGregor
Porteous
Doig
Newell
Magennis
JDH
Gullan
Nisbet
Murphy
Would rest Boyle as we rely on him so much. When we get the chance this season then he should be getting a break imo especially considering his international commitments are such a slog as well.
Other than that I’d go full strength. Wonder if we’ll play Dabrowski in the same way we played Macey last season?

I'd be really surprised if Kevin doesn't start for us. He needs to be involved now.

Same team as last night except Hanlon in for McGregor if fit

Would imagine the only change would be Hanlon in for McGregor if fit, would be great to get Ryan Porteous playing of the right, his passing has started lots of attacks in our games before last night.
Doesn’t seem to be many tickets sold for this one,Killie will bring a large noisy support so it’s important we get of to a good start.

I know its completely against Jack Ross's thinking on team selection but would like to see us try three center backs as a lot of people on here think McGinn and Doig are poor at defending and better going forward. Who that other center back would be would be the question as we are really short in that area. Also Nisbet does'nt work as a lone striker and now that Doidge is out we have problems up front as well.
I also think that if Watford did offer £2.5 million for Doig it was a mistake not taking that offer!!!!

3 at the back means 2 up front. We don't have 2!

Killie will fancy their chances after last night and Wright is a wise old fox, full strength for me, if they are tired they can have Mon/Tue/Wed off with us playing Dundee on the Sunday next weekend.

Not if you play 343 – front three of Boyle, Nisbet, Murphy.
(I don't think this is a good idea though – would mean changing the central midfield balance which currently looks the best it's been for a while.)

Boyle with Nisbet and Mackay out on the right? McGinn,Porto and Hanlon. Only thing with that we drop Murphy and he's been decent*♂️

This.
Possibly change Goalie as it's a Cup game but other than that field the strongest team we can.

Whatever the line up, we need to show strength of character and bounce back from yesterday's disappointment.

It all depends on the injuries, really.
I would be quite keen to get Stevenson back into the team, maybe on the left of a back 3.
He had a superb first leg in the European game, and I think we could do with his experience, especially if Hanlon needs another week to recover.
It's not easy to pick a team for this one, as we've got a lot of players who can't play up front on their own, can't play in a central pair in defence etc etc.
With our thin squad we're going to have some flaws throughout the team and I reckon we'll have a few players who will be very tired mentally and physically after having played so many games lately, culminating in being part of a 10 finishing the game in the Croatian heat last night.
We could really do with getting back on the horse and getting back to winning ways.
In fairness to Jack Ross, this is the kind of game his Hibs team have always managed to find a way through.

Need to find a balance between freshening it up after yesterdays disappointment and staying in a competition we have a realistic chance of going far in. Ask any footballer at any level and they would all want a game quickly after a bad defeat so it might not be a bad thing if its near enough the same team. They have a full week now before the next league game so should be fresh for that.

I don’t think Kilmarnock would be Hibs first choice of a team to play after what happened last night.
They’re favourites to go back to the Premiership this season, and Tommy Wright will have done his homework in order to work out what weakness he can exploit.
One of the main ones being Paul McGinn, who I thought was creaking towards the end of last season and the downward spiral has continued this season.
Wright might be tempted to stick Chris Burke up against McGinn,to see what positive results it might produce.
Hibs should not look on Kilmarnock as one of those lesser teams (a favourite term of a lot of posters) and treat them with due respect.
Hibs would be a huge scalp for Kilmarnock and Hibs have to go for them from the start.
Unfortunately JR doesn’t have much option to make any radical changes and if Hanlon is still out injured he will probably go for the team that started against Rijeka.

Hopefully Scott Allen and McKay get a run out. Allen in behind Nisbet. Or maybe give Nisbet a rest and play Gullan. Give him a run thru the middle with Allen supplying the thru balls

Tend to agree not sure we are in a position to make wholesale changes. This is a tie given Europe and significant number of injuries thar we are vulnerable in. Important we get through. Killie as indicated will be well up for it organised and have players capable of causing damage such as Fraser Murray. Thought they looked good against Ayr good energy and Burke looked as good as ever. Get the impression we can get at their defence but very tricky tie at present.

No. Accepting that would be a huge error. Its not 2002, 2.5million is insulting as our DOF has already said.
