Absolutely; we shouldn't be in a position where he has to start games for us, especially of that magnitude, and we desperately need cover at CB. But the thread that got deleted - at least the OP - was pathetic.

This sounds daft - but other than the sleeping for the first goal and the brain fart at the red card, I actually thought he played well.

Daz has served us with distinction and I still think he has a lot to offer us, albeit not twice a week every week.

I don't think Jack Ross has always handled the centre-back situation well - by way of rotation, keeping players sharp and keeping others fresh.

Until the Motherwell game where he was as bad as he’s ever been. He was rightly sidelined after that and should’ve been replaced at the end of the season.

I think this was the warning sign that going into this season with the same back line situation was going to cause us bother for our ambitions. Daz at the moment should be an absolute last resort once we burn through 3 first choice centre halves. The fact of the matter is at the moment he drops in as soon as one gets a knock or suspended and because neither him or McGinn are capable to play in a back 4 we then have to bring Boyle back further to accommodate the switch.

Until the Motherwell game? He played against Dundee United in the last 15 of the semi final, then put in 2 superb performances against aberdeen & celtic. To the extent where a large number of supporters were clamouring for him to start the cup final. So the last 3 games of last season he was excellent. He doesn’t go from that to should be being released in the space of 3 months.

I don’t think there is any need for this thread tbh. He’s had a shocker but the club should not have to be relying on him to play in such a huge game. Bringing him on v Ross County or Dundee is one thing. Starting with him in a game like this is down to the club not providing the appropriate cover.

A training game against Celtic and an Aberdeen side that were one of the worst in living memory in an attacking sense. Superb is stretching it a bit. He’s not good enough, not in my opinion and tonight has solidified that for me. Likewise McGinn. McGregor a legend absolutely, but even their time is up eventually, like Gray last season.

I actually thought Daz was doing OK, though first booking was daft and second a real brain fart after his slack pass. Also thought he did well enough when selected last season and most were happy enough about him starting tonight when Paul Hanlon dropped out.

I think some people need to manage their disappointment a little better. Yes it was gutting the way things panned out tonight and Darren McGregor will not need anyone to tell him he made a right royal mess of things for us tonight but he is by no means finished. He has a huge amount to give on the pitch when called upon but mostly behind the scenes and will always be a Hibs legend.

He’s fine if we’re in games where he just needs to head the ball all night, but unfortunately he’s too slow in thought, he’s bamboozled by any sort of movement from attackers and unfortunately it happens when someone’s time is up. I never jumped on the train of wanting him to start cup finals, I stayed quiet when he was in tonight but knew he would probably come unstuck. We need two defenders in and we need to transition him into the coaching side ASAP.

His age has nothing to do with the blunder tonight. If anything, it’s the type you’d expect from a youngster.

I think he’ll still do a job this season despite how annoying that was today.

Yeah! Daz will know himself he made a really poor decision not clearing the ball up the park.I thought he has been fine when he has played recently but not his finest hour.We are three players short of being capable of challenging for third place.Hopefully we will get back to winning ways on Sunday. An example really of how we don't have the squad to be in Europe and do decently domestically.

Just typical knee jerk blame game reaction from our section of so called fans .
I seen a game that up to 70 odd minutes that we were very competitive and after the sending off ,the decision to give a corner for the very soft goal was terrible .
The reaction to the defeat and to actively to try and hound out the manager when we are top of the league is very worrying .

Darren has been superb since signing and I’m sure he will continue to perform for us this season.

A silly mistake cost us this evening. He will know he’s let himself and the club down!

All I can say is thank god it wasn’t Paul or Lewis who made that mistake last night. They both get crucified on here for the slightest miss pass!

plenty of opportunity to comment on the match thread but to post a thread like that was pretty poor. It’s a team game, what were all the other players and the manager doing for the 90 mins. Players make mistakes all the time.

easy to be a hard man anonymously behind a keyboard, doubt he’d say the same to his face.

Censorship? The same point regarding Darren Macgregor’s part in our downfall has been made in a much better manner across multiple threads without them veering off topic and in to general bickering. You can easily find them.
Following a defeat like last nights we get swamped by posters throwing personal abuse etc about which generates plenty of reported posts for us to deal with. We can tell which threads are going to cause us extra grief as soon as they appear. Do we always get it right? Nope. But we don’t delete anything simply because of views expressed.
Can we get this one back on track now and keep it there, thanks.

Totally agree but don’t agree with the censorship. It’s a free press and everyone is entitled to their opinion whether you agree or not.

If you don’t like a thread don’t read it/partake in it. Closing it does not show admin up in a good light.

It's not Darren McGregor's fault that he was the only option to fill the gap that exists in the squad. Plenty have pointed out that additional cover was needed.

The one thing that's not in doubt in my mind is that he'd walk through a brick wall for Hibs.

Yes he probably cost us a chance of winning that game when we were getting on top, no one will feel it more than him, for me his legacy at the club is assured and some of the stuff flying around is over the top at best and hopefully undercover maroon balloonish at worst.

Darren's not finished, he's still good cover and will chip in with a few games here and there (which he done last season and was actually quite effective). The man will be hurting massively today but he's been through enough in his career and will bounce back. That comment about him being crap for the last 4-5 years is the biggest load of nonsense i've read.

We do need another centre half in though to push Paul and Ryan. If one of them got a long term injury, we're up the spout.

It's been clearly explained why the other thread was removed.

It was already a car crash, it was one which evidently had potential to cause more grief than we have already had to deal with after a result like last night and it was just wholly nasty and disrespectful.

Criticism of players doesn't get censored. I've criticised a few of them since last night. Criticism of Darren McGregor isn't censored, open almost any thread and you will see plenty.

Does that mean the McGinn thread gets closed down or is it only certain players?

Hanlon, Stevenson amongst others have threads slating them at times. Whilst some of the comments were OTT that seems to be the nature of this place just now

Saying he’s finished and should retire is being a ‘keyboard hard man’?

Also, what has ‘saying it to his face’ got to do with any of it? He’s a ****ing footballer getting paid a **** ton of money, footballers have been getting criticised from day dot so maybe he should’ve taken up another profession if he can’t handle it.

Only a clown would deny his legend status. But only an idiot would contest that he’s finished at the level we require and needs replacing. It’s not an either/or, anybody sane can hold both views.

Senseless blaming McGregor/Hanlon/Stevenson, who continue to do their best, but the basic reality that footballers get old always hits home.

The management need to recruit/develop a new, younger defense.
