Commercially allows us to market at a level above where we are now, TV deals mean higher income, gate receipts higher again, merchandise when playing bigger clubs in the groups, hospitality. All of which is before even discussing prize money. The figure you quote is a bonus, therefore there will be other amounts for winning ties, for qualifying for certain stages etc. It would be worth millions for a club like ours all in, of that there is no doubt.

I’d guess that up to the groups whichever stage you get to is the total you get. After that the amounts get added on. Would be a tad unfair on clubs entering at the latter stages.

Yeah if we get put out in the qualifiers, whatever value is against that round will be the total we receive in prize money. If we get to the groups we will get the €2.9m guaranteed, and after that add on any bonuses we get for wins, or for reaching the next stages which all get added onto the group prize.

Absolutely huge, especially knowing sneaking a win or two during the groups could give another million or so. Plus a huge help to the coefficient including the club coefficient. The players and club seem to understand how important Europe is to our finances and our development as a club going forward, it’s our only hope in bridging the gap to the top two, and trying to get a head start on those around us.

Total gate receipts for the group stages would likely exceed £1m, plus I assume we’d get a share of TV revenue from BTSport?

On top of that, from a sporting point of view our coefficient would benefit greatly which would put us in a stronger position to reach the group stages in future years.

If Shamrock Rovers win their tie in the Champions Path, and Bohemians also win, will that make any difference to whether we play home or away first in next round?

Obviously, we'll beat the Croats easily on Thursday evening! 😐

That third place rule is ridiculous. Top 2 should always go through directly. It worked from UCL into EL in the past as it made up the numbers and the top 2 in EL already qualified. Crazy but none too surprising.

Yeah and that means if you finish 2nd in the group, you are in a play off to reach the last 16 to accommodate them. The way UEFA distributes wealth is unreal it really does make the rich richer. No wonder leagues like ours end up the way they are where you get a couple of teams which completely dominate, and everyone else in the league can barely lay a glove on them. Therefore the only way we can realistically compete with the OF is to have sustained Euro group stage football. If only we could do it. The thing is now I feel it could be within our grasp. We cannot underestimate how important a game this is for us to progress as a club. Its massive this game.
