View Full Version : Best 45 mins since....
Well?
I can't remember watching as good a 45 mins as the first half today in a long long time. Absolutely battered them and on another day would have went in 5 up at HT.

This reminds me of the complaints from last season about being only able to play well for half a game.
I'm kind of hoping that anyone that felt that way is feeling a bit more positive about today.

The 1st half was incredible, the 2nd half was a good example of how the team has grown....controlled the game while never looking like letting them in. Can tell Thursday was in the back of their minds 2nd half.

It was sensational. Jack seems to have a plan to transform the club which will take time but should provide lasting results.
If we didn’t have another European tie on Thursday I think we’d have kept our foot in the gas and scored seven or eight today.

Had plenty of them tbh. Not trying to be an arse, because we were good today, but many better 45s in the last 5 years.

Haha no worries. Just a bit excited.

Totally agree. They controlled the game second half, and even made some decent chances, while not doing anything stupid.
To go back to your original question. We played Motherwell and Hamilton in successive games last season and won 3-0 and 4-0.
The second half against Motherwell was particularly impressive, but I think the first half today was better.

Most of us either weren't born or were too young to have been at that game.

Was a first half performance like we saw against the lesser sides under Mowbray 04-06 or a home Derby under Stubbs/Lennon in the Cup.

I mentioned to my son after the game that today’s performance reminded me of how we were under Mowbray.

That game at Fir Park when we took 6 off them. Or was it under Collins? Scintillating.
Great 45 min displays at Tannadice and Dens under Mowbray too, four going on ten. I thought today was heading that way but they had no real need to take any risks, the game was won and there’s another not far off.

Yeah the 6-1 under Collins at fir Park was amazing. Pressed and passed them off the park. Great to even have this feeling back where we put a team away in the first half.

I was at that game and I remember being disappointed we let them score.
Some people are just never happy.

First 45 was the best since McGinn left imo.
We were exceptional and 5 or 6 at half time wouldn’t have flattered us.

I think for the first time since McGinn left we've got a balanced midfield of talented players. Magennis, Doyle-Hayes and Newell are brilliant together, have dig, creativity, energy and passing ability and to think that Gogic and Allan are on the bench if we need more bite or creativity is brilliant.
I'm really, really excited about this squad.

A game at fir park under Collins springs to mind. Not sure of the score to be honest but remember at the time saying it was the best performance I’d seen since the tornadoes.

6-1, 4-0 at half time.
Lesser opposition, but we stuffed Gretna 4-0 in the first half around that time too.
Best I've seen us play in any first half was two Mowbray teams v Rangers and Collins' team against Celtic. Great when it all clicks together.

Dunfermline at home in the first game of the season when the McLeish team came back up.
Sauzee and Latapy were outstanding in that first half.

As much as it pains me to say I can see Allan leaving looking for more first team opportunities.

Agreed re the midfield and we know have a squad with a lot of depth at this moment in time.

Maybe Livingston at the start of last season. Even then I think we were far better today.
It's the most I have enjoyed watching Hibs in a long while. That's not just because I was there either. I don't remember being as impressed with us even pre covid since it all started to go wrong for Lennon.

During the first half, I said that it reminded me of a few seasons in the nineties, when we would start the season very brightly and seemed to be able to score at will. Thinking of a game where Michael O’Neill terrorised Dundee Utd probably about 94 and also in 97 when we were scoring from the halfway line and beating teams by 4 goals. Yes we did get relegated that season but it started really well.

I feel very bad to say it after what he's been through, but if he expects to be anything more than an occasional impact sub I don't fully know where Allan fits into this team.
I think he has a place with us if he's willing to accept a much lesser role than what he's used to at Hibs as he's clearly still got an amazing pass in him (we seen that last time he was on the pitch) but this isn't a team that requires a single mercurial player to tick. If Newell has an off day, Magennis and Doyle-Hayes can cover it and vice versa.

Errr..I remember a first half at Tynie some years ago, now when was it and what was the score at HT..? Oh yes, 01.01.1973 and 0-5 to the Turnbull Tornadoes. Yes, I really, really, really was there!

Not the best 45 mins, but the best 20 mins I think I've ever seen from us was when we went 3-0 up against the Huns in the 5-5 game. If only that one that hit the woodwork had went in to make it 4!

Not only was I at Tynecastle for the game where we were 5 -0 up at half time but the one where we were 4-0 up after 10 minutes with 2 goals each for Jimmy O'Rourke and Eric Stevenson. Combined with the game where Pat Quinn got a hat trick my happiest memories of the local derby all seem to be in the away games. Bearing in mind that I lived in Easter Road at the time and could walk to the ground in 5 minutes and really hated going through Gorgie it does seem a bit ironic that this should be the case

I remember a game against Gretna under Mowbray where we threw in one of our Jekyll & Hyde performances. 2-0 down at half time, second half we threw the kitchen sink at them and won 4-2.
Think the Mowbray days are still my favourite. A really young and exciting team that could either win 5-0 or not turn up and inexplicably get beat 3-0, you never quite knew what you were getting game to game, or even half to half, at times

We done the same against killie. 2-0 down at half time and you still expected us to come back. Won 4-2, boozy scored at least one, possibly two.

The Sevco game in the championship when Ian Black got subbed after about 20 minutes because he couldn't cope with Scott Allan.
