View Full Version : Possible red card

I thought Ross County should’ve had at least 1 red card today. The tackle on Murphy was 2 footed and could’ve been a bad one. The tackle on Doig didn’t look too clever either but it was on the other side of the pitch from me.

Referee was atrocious. He’s was lenient to the point where I doubt a player would have been sent off for fighting him in the centre circle.
As a result, County were given licence to dive into every tackle. Genuinely shocked no one went off injured. Callaghan on Doig in the first half was appalling.

The referee (Grant Irvine) had taken charge of 4 games so far this season before today and dished out only 2 cards across the 4 games. Seems a ridiculously lenient referee based on that and what we seen today. To not even book Callaghan for his challenge on Doig was a joke.

Patons tackle on JDH in the 1st few minutes set the tone. He had 6 studs raked into the inside of his thigh. Not a word to Paton so he committed another one straight after.

Ref was hopeless. How the Ross Co player never got booked for that assault on JDH in the 1st minute is beyond me. I missed the Callachan one but heard the reaction.

Thought there there were two reds the early tackle by Paton on JDH giving him stud marks on his thigh. Minute later Murphy skins the same player who pulls him back yellow every day of the week. The off his feet tackle on Murphy was a red and only avoided serious injury by Murphy pulling out of it. Ref was out his depth big time. Being lenient doesn't mean you are a good ref.

Was sat in row A of the East today and saw both the Paton tackle and the Callachan one right up close. Both should have been at least yellow cards. The Paton tackle in the first minute was a shocker and he straight away pulled a Hibs player to the ground a minute later. And of course no surprises that an ex Jambo tries to break the leg of a potential £4m Hibs player. His Jambo mates would have been all over him about this before the game. He was laughing away afterwards as well. Ugly ******* even when he was laughing. As an aside, my normal seat is three quarters of the way up the East where you can get a much better overview of the game and don't have to see any uglys up close

Many referees would have had Ross County down to ten players within the opening minutes. The first tackle was a certain yellow and marginal red. The second, by the same player, was another certain yellow. Neither was given.
I was watching the match on Hibs TV on a train coming back from London and their was real disbelief that the perpetrator not only staying the pitch but escaped a card on any colour.

Someone needs to leave a wee present on that prick Callachan next time we play them.

First noticed callachan at Raith where he had some weird arrogant swagger about him. I wasn't surprised when he signed for Hwarts

This. We have had some physical battles so far this season. All the teams juts wanna kick us.

That tackle on Murphy was a leg breaker if it had caught him properly. It was a disgrace and how that tit of a ref didn't send him off is beyond me.
Ref was crap all day. Set the tone early doors by not getting a grip of them and letting too much slide.

He didn’t seem interested in booking anyone, and missed a fair few fouls that were right in front of him.

We're going to be moaning about these every week.
It might be worth thinking about how we might take advantage of the more lenient referees this season - there is certainly scope for "Vinnie Jones on Steve McMahon" tackles it would seem.
The dark arts are part of the game, I want to see us streetwise rather than moaning after the event.
It does seem like a peculiar directive from UEFA and I reckon there will be a few serious injuries before they tighten up again.

That was a real shocker :grr:
To me, the ref and linesman were just going through the motions and getting paid good money for it too :agree:

I actually thought it was Callahan who committed the 1st shocker. That it was the same guy who committed 2 stonewall yellow card offences in 1st minute is almost beyond belief. Ref bottled it.

He did book a county player late in the second half for doing the exact same thing!

From what I can tell this new directive is mainly about contact doesn’t equal a foul. Which is really how it should always have been but things had gone too far.
I don’t think refs are going to be more lenient in general in Scotland. There were 8 yellows in our game vs Motherwell. Livi had 5 or 6 yellows today.
This ref today at our game simply didn’t apply the rules! Letting the game flow is one thing but for Callachan to escape a card for his challenge on Doig was incredible. Just rank bad refereeing.

Here was me saying in the Best Player ever thread that modern players don't have to come up against the tackles the likes of Best etc did. How Motherwell and Ross County both had a full complement after 90 minutes is beyond me. As for the Andorrans they should have been down to about 7 players. The refs have been terrible but the good news is our players seem to be thriving in the hostile environment created by the men in black. We look physically and mentally tough and that is not something I have said often about our teams. Jack Ross is building something and he is doing it quietly, professionally and with fortitude and strength. This team is in his image and there is a real sense that we can overcome the dreadful referees and the cloggers that fill our league.

How they didn't receive a red card and actually only got one yellow is a complete mystery. Thought Porto was going to have an aneurism at one point shouting about one if the tackles

I was sitting not far from the dugouts and bizarrely the County bench were going nuts that he was given a yellow for it!
Don Cowie in particular was losing his mind over it. Strange wee guy
