More than 100 cases of Covid-19 have been linked to the Euro 2020 fan zone in Glasgow, it has been revealed. http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/19498400.100-cases-coronavirus-linked-euro-2020-fan-zone-glasgow/?ref=appshr

Without reading the article I suspect that was down to alcohol induced cuddling and exuberance which can be avoided
Similarly I was a little concerned by young Hibs fans over excited goal celebration behaviour down the front at the Mothrwell game last week which was avoided by most older fans with a bit more common sense.
I reckon outdoor is pretty safe but obviously not if you act as if Covid doesn't exist.

As said elsewhere. “Linked” doesn’t mean they caught it there.

Was there no crowds of 6000 there every day? If so, the 100 or so who “might” have caught it there doesn’t seem that bad

BBC covering this story too, but this is the last paragraph
"Data from Public Health Scotland and NHS contact tracing shows no evidence of an outbreak at the fan zone, and that the increase in case numbers during the tournament reflects an increase in prevalence of the virus in broader society."

Thousands a day attended over the course of a month. And they’re linking 100 cases to it. Seems pretty safe to me unless you want to live life with absolutely zero risk.

There are over 1000 cases everyday in Scotland so 100 cases in the fan zone is reasonable. Meanwhile the hospital and ic unit numbers continue to fall. We are getting back close to normality and attending football matches is one of the safer things we do.

Nah I don’t think im totally safe going outdoors.
After all, I could be run down, hit by lightning, or slip and hit my head.

Just another BBC scare story...just as much chance as catching any other virus and for those of us double vaccinated the time has come to get life back to some sort of normality - what is more concerning now is people not getting the Hospital apps they need for other conditions other than Covid - life needs to resume as Covid is not gonna disappear

So basically they've no idea where the people caught it they just happened to be amongst the thousands of people who went to the fan zone.

Yep - and its entirely feasible (we have all been there..........) that people got pished up at the fanzone then went for a scran / pub / house party.
The BBC and good journalistic standards are diverging weekly.

It’s a silly article in the first place, surely “linked” only means that 100 that were at the fan zone tested positive shortly after being there. It’s been widely proven that outdoor transmission is almost non existent

The photos and videos doing the rounds back up your point about people disregarding social distancing, alongside this a large number of people there will be in the age bracket where they had one dose of the vaccine at best, many won't have had either at that time.
As others have said, it's a bit of a scare story from herald and BBC, trying to milk people's fear or covid for all it's worth.

I was reading this morning that the surge in infections over the last month across the UK is partly being put down to fans gathering to watch the Euros. Not specifically at fan zones but also watching in homes, pubs, clubs etc. The numbers appeared to have tailed off since the end of the Euros. I think it’s fair to say that a number of folks caught the virus at fan zones, but I would imagine that putting a figure on how many would be a bit trickier (unless track and trace worked to perfection). Just looking at some of the scenes of Scottish fans enjoying themselves in London and other folks celebrating at fan zones it’s difficult to imagine folks not catching the virus in those situations.

Back to normal. Except for the 100 still dying every day, 10s of thousands getting infected, hundreds of thousands or millions living with long covid, restricted or massively disrupted international travel, preventing people like me from seeing loved ones and the strong possibility of new variants coming along that could reduce vaccine effectiveness.
But yeah apart from that it's like the last 18 months never happened.

Is the bigger story not the fact that many caught it after attending games at hampden? People whom I believe were supposed to present a negative test on entry. I'd expect an up tick two weeks after schools go back too. The virus enjoys crowds.
Hopefully with the cycle of jags, boosters, catching it and building resistance, we get to that herd immunity and it proves to be everything its cracked up to be!

I don't think you had to show any evidence testing or vaccine. I was at the Czechs vs Scotland game and wasn't required to show anything.

We all have our own opinions and do our own risk assessments.
Can't say an article like that causes me any concern. It's information but nothing that will move the position of a reasonable person.
We all see Covid differently based on our education, intelligence, experience, common sense and that view is often overridden by selfish self interest.
Not connected but i felt sorry for the stewards in the stadium having to wear masks at all times on Thursday whilst a few drongos without masks approached to within a foot of them to have conversations. Most folk wore masks until seated and when moving about the stadium to the toilet etc which to my mind is the right balance but as I said we all see things differently.

I don't disagree with any of that.
