Just a thought.

Not a bad performance from Hibs but still room for a lot of improvement.
Those of us of a certain age can remember the great European nights and the not so great (sore nights).
A European tie is a lot different from your average Scottish game. Up against players with different mind sets, abilities, levels of fitness etc. Also the cunning behaviour and dirty tricks. You could see it starting last night, the time wasting and dramatics. (Not the worst team I have seen doing all this).

Problem for our players and particularly the younger ones, is they are not coming up against these players nearly enough. The odd foray into Europe every three years isn't enough.

Just wish we could start arranging challenge matches against foreign opposition on a more regular basis. Blank international weekends could be filled and there are probably other free times that could be used too. It would give our players a bit more experience until we are in Europe every season and going further than just the preliminary rounds.

That was a good learning curve for Hibs last night but we need that a bit more often.

Agree for the most part. It feels like we are having to re-learn how to play in Europe every time, because it's such a rare occurrence. We've seen it a number of times in recent decades where we're clearly not inferior to the teams we come up against but we lose out on the basis of small margins.

However, I would say that the idea we have the moral high ground in terms of time wasting and dramatics etc is akin to the Rijeka manager saying we are a long ball team. Perhaps more stereotype than reality IMO!

They might've been the worst team I've ever seen live for playacting. First 80 minutes probably would have put them on a par with other European teams, but the last ten minutes was something else.

I agree we could probably arrange more challenge matches against foreign sides to learn a bit more about different styles of football. Our young players could only benefit from it.

Pre-season in particular could be ideal to play 2/3 european sides before playing Scottish teams just before the league starts so that we're ready for both. We usually play British sides only in pre-season now though.

Could be wrong but, pre-pandemic, was the Development team not playing teams from outside Scotland on a fairly regular basis instead of taking part in the league?
