Firstly I really enjoyed tonight, some of our 1 touch play so far this season has been outstanding. The one thing I wish we would improve on in Europe is gamesmanship. How many fouls didn't we get tonight because we stayed on our feet. With European refs we need to be more willing to hit the deck. I'm not talking about diving, I'm talking about taking the contact and going down.

Yup.

I said the same when the guy kicked out at Magennis. As much as we all hate it, he should have been making a massive deal out of it because you can guarantee they would have.

Agree, it's been the same for years.

Totally agree. Was thinking last night during the game Nisbet stayed on his feet too often. He took a few clatters and claimed for fouls whilst staying on his feet. Claims waved away. If he'd went down he'd have got the free kick.

No, not for me.

I despise cheating, diving and play acting,

I don't want our players to lose their integrity for some possible short term advantage.

Being "street wise" in that sense is not a desirable attribute.

One thing I thought they did very well was manage the game, which included being street wise. After our equaliser they had a sustained period of keep ball, and when we won it back they'd buy a foul. Prevented us getting and serious momentum in the last 20 minutes when it looked like they were flagging fitness wise.

I agree with you. I thought some of their antics last night were appalling. Players staying down trying to get players booked or to get the game stopped and disrupt play and then get up with nothing wrong with them.

Sadly Boyle also did similar when he rolled about and then got up after the yellow card had been shown

You are right, we came out of the game last night with more cred, than our opponents based on fouls and play acting. We need a bit more savvy but not in the context of cheating. Still a fairly young squad though and with experience things might change as far as savvy in a legal context is concerned.

Going down because you feel contact is still diving. Going down due to contact putting you on the ground isn't diving

Correct. If the contact actually brings you down "street wiseness" is irrelevant. Pretending it did, is cheating.

If we dont get through the tie having a bit more nice guy "cred" than the opposition will mean hee haw:greengrin

I'd rather lose than cheat.

I did enjoy their goalie getting injured by making a save towards the end of the game, that was quite specialist.

I’ve seen dozens of sides throw this streetwise card at us in 50 years of watching Hibs. I’ve seen Arbroath and Aberdeen do it. I’ve seen Leeds United do it. Hadjuk Split, Oesters and Strasbourg outhought us at it. I’ve seen Stranraer do it, I’ve seen East Fife, Falkirk, QOS, Montrose, Meadowbank Thistle, Hearts and every other **** that ever takes something off us do it.

Sometimes , amazingly, we’ve done it to them too.

There is a difference between blatant cheating and being streetwise though. Sometimes you need to give the ref a wee helping hand to make his decision. The late great referee Brian Latto taught me that.
