He's everything I like in a footballer. Everything he does is for a reason and he makes good decisions with and without the ball.

I said on the match day thread that he looks capable of filling the void that McGeouch left when he moved on and that's very high praise imo.

Uses the ball so well. Finds a man and looks forwards, doesn’t admire his work and is always looking to receive the ball in space.

Will enjoy watching him at Hibs.

He was brilliant.

Classy classy player, always looked like he had tons of time on the ball. Very composed on the ball but puts in a shift and isn’t afraid to put his foot in.

Also liked how he was screaming at his team mates to get the ball back in play quicker and he was always demnding it.

Magennis looks like a player who has seriously benefited from the mythical 'proper pre season'. Being played in something close to his proper position is probably helping as well.

Sometimes you can just tell when someone's a player. JDH is a player. The things that you mainly notice when they're not done well, speed and accuracy of passing, first touch, positioning, vision, composure - all clear strengths of Jake's.

The three that started tonight worked very well together.

Him and Magennis are must starts in our midfield now. That 3rd position is between Newell and Allan. It’s fantastic that after years of a weakish midfield post McGinn, we have four very good ones.

Absolutely superb tonight.

Trying not to get too carried away as its early days for the lad but he has everything imo. Id agree with the comparisons to McGeouch..the way he takes the ball under pressure and slides short, straight passes thru midfield reminded me of him. He also reads the game well and makes interceptions in the way Dylan used to.

Looking forward to watching the blossoming partnership with Magennis in midfield for the rest of the season.

I’d have probably had the midfield as being the part of the team that concerned me most prior to tonight but I thought all 3 in the middle were excellent.

Magennis looks quality as well, and Newell did fine too.

We looked good with 3 footballers who were comfortable on the ball in there, and we didn’t obviously look to be at all short defensively.

I wonder if folk who genuinely believed signing ex- St Mirren players meant Hibs lacked ambition were impressed with JDH and MaGennis tonight...?

The level of maturity in JDH's performance was pretty remarkable considering his age and the fact he's barely in the door.

Its been said already but that midfield 3 is already looking like the answer. Gives the wide guys a great platform to perform.

Feels like our style of play has transformed with the improvement in Magennis and the inclusion of JDH. There was a moment in the second half when a ball came in the air towards JDH at a really awkward angle and where many would mis-control or sclaff it he had the confidence and ability to cushion a first time pass to a team mate. A minor moment in the grand scheme of things but my immediate thought was...aye, he'll do.

Got one league cup appearance at Villa, Loan spells at Cheltenham and Cambridge, moved to St mirren, played 19 games in paisley without really leaving a big impression, 22 and never merited an Ireland call up despite them having the worst international side in a generation…I must admit I thought he’d be a squad player and I was a lot more excited about Daniel Mackay.

Just goes to show there’s still some bargains to be had.

We've got ourselves a player here. Early shout, but we could be regretting just offering the lad a 2 yr deal!

Are we sure that was our decision? Wouldn't be surprised if that call came from the player and his agent - I'm sure St Mirren would have wanted to sign him for longer than 7 months also. We may have our work cut out to get him to agree to an extension in due course.

Didn't make any impact when he was the right age for the Irish Under 21s either, although it was an unusually competitive squad to get in to.

Overall I'm not surprised he has started well though - he was highly regarded at both Cheltenham and St Mirren.

I suppose it's natural to get excited but time will tell. He's had a positive impact so far and looks an upgrade on gogic.

I remember people calling Josh Vela a great signing after some League cup games, granted it's a different level to European competition but let's just see if the lad can perform as he did last night consistently.

A great start, though.

He plays that way, chases the ball giving whoever has it an easy ball and fills all those passing lanes helping out his defence. Yeah that ability to ghost quickly into a position that makes it easy to find him with a pass is something else.

His use of the ball is always spot on and done quickly - he’s creating space for people all over the park.

I think Gogic gave us something we hadn’t had last season but with all respect to him … and he’ll still be a good guy to have around … JDH is taking the midfield to another level.

Thought he was superb today, definitely need to get him on a longer deal, Dan Mckay looks like more a
of a slower burner

McKay has played very little senior football, and has now made a big step up. That one will be a longer term project but will have been signed based on his raw attributes (pace and skill) and his potential to improve massively learning from Boyle and Murphy.

Thought he was amazing again tonight. Get's stuck in, calm in possession and was all over the pitch.

Glad he's found form again after a few injuries earlier in the season.

I wax lyrical about him all the time, I think JDH is an excellent footballer and I was very glad when he stayed. Hopefully we'll get a consistent run in the team next year with no more injuries and we'll see the best of him.

I think he's a cracking player.

He’s been great when he’s played the second half of the season. I have a suspicion he’ll be away in the summer but I’d be more than happy if he stayed.

He was another one who was excellent last night. An extremely close 2nd for my MoTM behind Miller
